Berserk is a must-read for any manga fan.
In my pov, berserk is like "the godfather" on the manga world.
The best art i've ever seen so far, great plot, great characters....

Here are the reasons why you should read Berserk:
* Unpredictable story
* Thrilling action
* Ridiculously detailed artwork - if there was an art gallery dedicated to artwork from this manga I would go in a heartbeat
* Characters you can care for
* Good scares
* Good humour to be had

The first chapters are one of the darkest things i've ever read, it keeps the adult content and then it goes for a more popular manga as everyone says.
Not everything is bad in that change as i like the comic duo Isidro/Puck. On the other hand there's some shounen content that diminish the quality, like tha "power ranger/batman" armour, totally shounen rubish, Guts goes down from a mad and complex avenger character to a sugarcoated uncle full of love for his little friends.... the apostles getting friendly with the humans, the lack of sex (adult content), and the excess of childish or weak characters (moes everywhere)
Even so this manga it's still one of a kind, the darknes goes down, but the quality keeps pretty much the same as always and sometimes you got your share of gore.
I always like to point out the things i don't like, so with all that said i still think this is one of the best mangas ever published, and i believe a lot of people don't give a chance to Berserk precisely because the first two arcs are unbearable for them, just keep reading because you probably would like more the manga once you get past the first half, it goes from the darkness of the abbysmal nightmares to be one of the finest pieces of fantastic literature out there.

The Best manga
Rip. Muira died 🙁 Very unfortunate. Usually japanese have good life expectancy but i am guessing overwork and high bloodpressure was the main cause. Poor guy he dedicated his life to one thing but was never able to finish.

when i first read this, i had to stop because back then i was still too green, i can't stand the dark art and the bleak atmosphere. but after maturing, i decide to give this another go, and dang am i regretting this decision. this is so freakishly good, and i'm just setting myself up for disappointment, waiting and waiting for new releases.
sure this gets more and more shounen, but i don't mind much. i just love the whole black vs white theme but in the opposite way. i really really want to find out how will guts take on the most beloved messianic figure in the world.

Earlier I decided not to read it further after reading first 3 volume as they were terrible, but I am glad that I didnt followed my decession. The true interesting story starts after first 5-6 volumes.
Its one of the best seinen I have ever read. The story is well framed,characters are really well characterised except for few and the art is really well drawn (not including the starting).
So dont give up on it for it slow starting because you will surely regret that you missed such a masterpiece work.

There's a reason why this series is rated so high despite the sheer amount of people who voted 1. It's not because of the hype, but the simple fact that this piece is undeniably good. Obviously, there are those who picked this up only to realize that seinen and bloodshed wasn't their cup of tea. If you're reading this, however, you've come here with an expectation in mind and I can guarantee you that you won't be disappointed. Take a chance. live a little, and experience this epic series.

I'm going to preface this review by saying that I love Berserk - but I almost wrote a review saying that I hated it. I'm writing this for people like me who see all the raves here, pick up Berserk, and then can't figure out what all of the fuss is about. My main message: stick with it through the end of volume 3 before you decide.
The first couple of volumes of Berserk honestly had me thinking that this was the most overrated manga ever. The drawings were sketchy and disproportionate, and the characters often had weirdly foreshortened limbs. Worse, the story seemed like a godawful adolescent male empowerment fantasy: A scowly, invincible warrior in crotch-ccentuating armor runs around a bad D&D backstory populated by burlap wearing peasants. He carries a sword shaped like a Freudian complex and is accompanied by an irritating pixie sidekick who serves primarily as a Greek chorus designed to remind us every other panel of just how badass the hero is.... Yuck!
So... if this is your opinion of Berserk when you start reading, bear with the bad Conan-esqueness of it all until you hit the flashback episodes. I guarantee that you will be hooked. I wound up losing sleep for several nights running. It's that addictive.
UPDATE: It gets lousy again. The art stays good (lots of vagina dentata stuff, if you're into it), but Guts is now collecting adorable wee sidekicks like they're frigging Pokemon.

This honestly must be the best one I have read so far. Art, fantastic, story, amazing, emotions towards the characters, outstanding! From start too 301 I couldn't stop reading. It was something that would stir my mind for hours. Guts really has it rough, but I suppose I want to say Caska had been burdened with less because of her memory, but I cannot say that seeing how she was mortified right in front of him :'(. Man did the beginning arcs bind me close to this series >_<! I would recommend this to anyone, I think o_o;'.
All time favourite.

I have read blade of the immortal and other sword fighting manga. This is a masterpiece that could go on and on... And still won't free my thirst for more. The setting is just perfect with realism on how people were in the old times. How ignorant the christians were in the older times. It somehow points some true history but not in a direct way. Such how priests were in the old days and how women and children were raped.
This manga doesn't need art. The story itself will bring you to ecstasy. Questions will pop out like "How far will his rage bring him?" stuff like that. Besides he isn't the super hero everyone would imagine. Getting sliced up yet still somehow manages. It's just amazing. The anime isn't hardcore but the manga version really goes my style. Sex,Violence and a bit romance was the trigger. Add some magic in the final volumes = masterpiece. Adding a lord of the rings effect makes it even greater. It has the Conan the barbarian feel also. It really is the greatest sword manga ever. I give this a 10 rating. And amongst the 10 rating it deserves to be the top 1.
A hero shouldn't have a pretty face.
A hero shouldn't be immortal with special powers.
A hero shouldn't rely on purely magic and crappy effects like what (griffith) does.
A hero shouldn't get a chick he can obtain so easily.
A hero shouldn't be a small twirp.
A hero is a mental state.
A hero must struggle the impossible! And that is what makes berserk a unique story telling. The hero wasn't born to be a hero. He made his own destiny and cut his way through no matter if its cutting a child or an old man. A true swordsman slices his way through everything. No mercy! Off with the head! May it be a mortal or a god. Go gatz!
The entire mange doesn't even need to be a manga. It can be written in words and it would still be a master piece. It is 100% the story that fills me with excitement!
