O vices, o sins, o bloody shitty excesses!
Page-art is quite expressive and most expressively adds to the stupidities or absurdities of crying, snickering, laughing, etc., of the whole c-a-r-i-c-a-t-u-r-i-s-t-i-c manga, but, besides that, nothing impressive.
Umino’s brother leaves her with a huge debt and now she’s got to play tennis – again – in order to repay every yen of it. So… uh… what do you have to do to in order to loose 250 million yen?
Characters are made of vices, sins and bloody shitty excesses, amazingly, it’s not ero-guro-nansensu, amazingly.
I title it: | The most annoying manga of all time! |
| An expensive feast for masochists: o, we just love da paiiiiin!!! |

I can't stand half the characters and I would like this manga a lot more if the characters weren't so annoying, the plot is nice and well developed, but the characters suck. Umino is too naive and doesn't notice the true personalities of the people around her, her siblings are pretty spoiled, but they're just kids. The mama's boy, w/e his name is, can't make up his mind and do something. That choko girl makes me want to slap her over and over again when i read this, I think she's the biggest b...annoying jealous woman in all of the manga I've read
EDIT: I've changed my mind...this manga is just annoying in itself. How the hell is this realistic? -_- I would've liked it more if the characters weren't so...

I can't stand this sort of series. The sort of series which does nothing but point out that people are all dicks. If you're looking for a series to reinforce your view that people suck, this is the manga for you!
wow so many complaints yet such good ratings the manga does annoy you to a certain extent, anger and frustration, and its really depressing..
happy was the first manga i ever saw. when my dad came back from a business trip to japan he brought a magazine(?) featuring the 201st chapter. there was some english in there that helped me figure out what it was about, but other then that i was clueless, and still am. however i remembered the name and reading it now i recognize the more outrageous characters. I can't wait till i can read chapter 201 in english, arg!!!!
reading this manga makes me wanna kill somebody like Umino Miyuki, coz she sees this damn world with such a baby eyes, and i can't stand that everybody is pushing her so bad. I think, someone like her is better off dead, and straight go to heaven. But then, my murder intent turn into deep sadness, coz, Urasawa really portrays every bad side of human being. Someone nice and friendly is actually have a mean and devilish heart. And of course, in a world like that, a baby umino miyuki surely hard to breathe.
God i'm so pissed
I read many many manga but none pissed me off like this, Umino is in series need for BALLS!!!! and worse than that is that it's not yet completely translated which means everytime a release appears and you read it you'll stay in a real bad mood.....
Lovely art, I think it has the same captivating style as recent Miyazaki's. Story is very depressing since it reveals much of human flaws, especially the cunning of jealous women. Deserves more attention, but its pessimistic nature may be a turn off to some readers.

I started reading this manga because I thought Happy! would make me happy. Instead, it made me more angry and frustrated. However, it's still a good manga, just don't expect it to cheer you up. It shows you just how unfair life can be, with everything stacked against you.
The protagonist is unbelievably naive, and her family is the worst. I have no idea how her siblings turned into such spoiled brats when they're so poor, but they are. The only one of her siblings that's worth anything is the youngest, because he's a good judge of character.
good manga .. and it is her older brother who skips out on the debt the father and mother is dead. bad things happen to her and people who want to use her is all around .. hope for the best
