At the start this was pretty interesting and it followed the original idea, but some people noted that it wasn't catching onto readers and was on the verge of being cut. It was kinda rushed a little into a battle manga which was what caught many more readers and saved it from being cut. I followed the manga really for one reason, I really like the character Zenkichi. He's your average normal character that I wish would play a bigger part in this whole mess instead of all the side characters that keeps taking the spotlight. Well up to the current character he is starting to take that roll, but throughout new characters just kept being introduced and when that happens, it loses a lot of appeal to me. The story wise is pretty unique in it's own sense, but it feels like the mangaka is trying to hard and putting too much effort adding more than needed. I'm on the verge of dropping this myself, since the chapters annoys me more and more every new chapter, but that's me. I'll keep reading because I want to know what happens to Zenkichi, but other than that, nothing really appeals to me.
I guess this is great if you want something a long the lines of bleach and what not. It's unique and has it's shine, but in my opinion it's just your usual battle manga with lots of characters that really gets annoying.

If you want a normal manga, this is not what you are looking for. This is the farthest thing from your typical shounen manga. People call it stupid, weird, and over the top. In a sense, it's pretty accurate, and that's what makes it unique. The characters, especially, are the reasons why this is such a non-mainstream manga.
It's so stupid at times, it's genius. Stupid things happen all the time in real life, so why do they not happen in manga? In actuality, this manga is actually a fairly intelligent read. They rip apart the common cliches of manga and illustrate a new and more unique alternative. Is it confusing? It's meant to be. There is a lot of dialogue, but it is meant to explain the strange train of thoughts that characters possess. Otherwise it's pretty simple, blunt and funny how the plot progresses.
It's so weird at times, it's creative. The twists and turns of the manga are created by no one else but by the characters. The flow is unnatural, which is strangely completely reasonable due to what the characters are like. It's like predicting the movements of a insane man. You can be interested in what you see, even though it isn't what you expected.
It is over the top, but so are many good things in life. Medaka Box is a reasonable manga, so although the characters go over the top at times, it's because of their purposely weird characteristics. It was never portrayed as a realistic manga to begin with, especially when weird people have existed in the manga since the first chapter and accumulating non-stop. This is no different than a regular shonen manga, where the protagonist fights stronger people with powerful, and stranger abilities, so I see no reason why to complain.
It starts with a normal premise, but eventually it gets weirder. That's where things get interesting and funny. Eventually you will be confused by the writing style, and at the same time you will get attached to it. The greatest way to read this manga is to expect nothing. Enjoy the characters, enjoy the bashing of cliches, and enjoy the strange world of Medaka Box.

Medaka Box is prolly one of the most underated and misunderstood Manga out there.
Most of people fail to see that everything is just exagerated on purpose.
The character are clearly exagerated on purpose. All have an overexagerated clichée personnality. The story and setting is too clichée and totally stupid with a lot of refererence to other Jump Manga... But everything is clearly made on purpose and exagerated.
It's why, when you read Medaka Box you must not take it seriously at all... Even the super power name are exagerated on purpose.
in the end it's a fun manga... And not some crappy one like a lot of people, who, unfortunately, failed to see that's you must not take it serisouly, said.
in fact, taking Medake Box like a "serious" Jump Battle Manga like Bleach, Naruto etc... It's like taking Gintama for one too.

It seemed questionably interesting in the beginning, but slowly lost steam. If there were more depth I might stay interested, but half the time the story just doesn't make sense in the slightest. Many times throughout the story the haracters actions or inactions seem so vague it's almost laughable. In one chapter a character can betray a lifelong friend in the name of plot, but moments later do a heel-face turn for some unfathomed reason... Only to go back to the bad team 3 chapters later. I can accept a plot-hole or two for the sake of a good story, but this author strikes up new holes with each passing chapter and pretends they're not there with superpowers for the main characters that seem almost made up on the spot.
Oh yeah, and why the superfluous enormous rack on every single female character? I mean, I though we were past that. Will it kill the reader to actually see a single anatomically correct version of a human being? I'm not asking for flat-chests all around, but there has to be a limit to how many H-cups you need!

If you are going to read this manga, You Have To Roll With The Genre Changes!
DO NOT come to this manga expecting a full blown
"Action Comedy Ecchi Martial Arts Psychological School Life Shounen Supernatural"
Each and every one of these tags (with the OBVIOUS exception of ecchi) WILL NOT CONSTANTLY BE A PART OF THE SERIES. Starts with more comedy, switches to shonen battles, where I am at now it is increasingly psychological.
It is all I ever wanted in a manga.
Seriously, my one pet peeve with manga (unless they're episodic) is genres. I hate specific genres in a long manga! *RAWR!*
I just wish it had romance....

This is 1 weird as hell manga. Starts off as a Haruhi rip off then to avoid being canned it switches to a battle manga. It's fun to read but don't take it too seriously or expect it to make much sense if any at all.

This started off really good. Student council President who enjoys a bit of exposure. Her best friend and loyal man, who stays with her through thick and thin. Dealing with the various other clubs and issues. Then it went off into never never land. The bouncing ball kid arc was so over the top, and so moronic, that I realized this was going off the deep end. It was no longer worth reading. Put it simply, read through chapter 15, then throw the rest away. It might be good as toilet paper, but thats about all its good for.
I give this a rating of 3, because of the good start, and the art quality.

This has to be one of the worst Shonen Jump series in years. Don't waste your time on it unless you want to get brain damage, because when reading this series your going to be banging to head against your desk for how stupid this series has become.

This series started off very interesting with the whole business of the "Suggestion Box" and Kurokawa trying to fix up everything. The individual short stories were quite amusing.
This however, was not going to keep a manga serialized for long, and this is probably why the author changed it into the more popular battle manga style - a total 180 flip that was quite unsettling at first.
Its still interesting now with the concept of the abnormals and creating the perfect human, but a battle manga is a battle manga. With the incessant fighting on one side, the plot itself isn't quite enough to make it perfect.
I will keep reading this to see how it unfolds, but the best part of this manga is still the beginning.
