Oh, Goong. Goong used to be such a great manhwa until volume 6 or so. Then the author killed it.

The beginning showed a lot of potential and it was nice to see a poor girl getting married to the Prince. The whole arranged marriage theme wasn't original but the author did a great job on mixing historical elements in a modern setting.

Of course, some things were just unbelievable. The main heroine Chae-Gyung comes from a poor family. Her grandfather was friends with the King, how is that possible? It's not that easy for a commoner to know a royal so easily. But ok, let's pass that.

Shin, who is the Prince is just an idiot. Shouldn't he show respect towards Chae-Gyung? What he was only doing was to humiliate her such as,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
cleaning his hands after Chae-Gyung touched him or throwing her from the balcony into the pool.
Talking about no manners at all. And even if later he becomes somewhat better, I can't get to like him.

Chae-Gyung ain't that great either. She is a boring fangirl who endures that kind of humiliation and she does not mind that much. Just cause of Shin's looks.

And after reading 100+ chapters, my head hurts as well. Can't believe the characters are under such ridiculous drama. And there is TOO much dragging.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The author turned the self-centered Shin into a clingy Shin towards Chae-Gyung and he wants to be with her and blah, blah. His cousin and her mother are the 'bad guys' and Chae-Gyung is all thinking and crying.

There is just cliche drama, nothing else. Goong is just like an endless soap-opera. And I don't see it ending soon since it's so popular. I suppose the author will continue it for 30+ volumes.

It would be great if the author ended Goong and started another work because she has a nice style.

well, when I first read this manhwa I felt that something was missing but I wasn't sure until later,,, the desire to make Shin (Crown Prince) stepped down from his position, the romance going between them, the characters expression... etc (too lazy to type more sorry) *bow*
Anyways like the previous comments the manga is really good on the start as they reach volume 6 or so,, it has lost it's interest, the author is good but some events juz doesn't add up, also the characters expression is not fully shown as well as their emotions...
----
also I get angry at Shin at first, but then as he learns that he has fallen in love with Chae-Gyung, he still tried to protect Hyo-rin tho it's ok since they ARE friends, but at least he should consider Chae-Gyung feelings even for once, he get jealous over with Yul when he himself couldn't see why Chae-Gyung is acting like that...
---
I can't fully give my opinion about this manhwa since I haven't reach the latest chapter (i stop since I'm a fast reading so I wanted the Manhwa to be completed b4 I could read it again, tho it might take a while for it to complte)
so right now my opinion to this manga is GREAT, but at some chapters/volume u might lost interest but their are also chapters/volume that would really get u going..
---
that's all for now ^____^

I posed a comment before saying how pissed off I was with shin but wow this manwha is a discusting attempt at romance. I really feel depressed and apauled , I properly read up to chapter 44 and there relationship was just discusting and depressing it was like shin had no moral conscience Spoiler: he made the girl sick to the point of her having an eating disorder.

it was awquard and disturbing ,during those chapters no progress was made what so ever , after chp 44 i skipped to th endish until I got to the final chapters and it was still sooo disturbing , the guy was a complete ************ basterd i just dont havethe words , he was inhuman towards the girl and I could not believe the time he left and didn't reply to her messages and no explanation was given how siick urghh and also the girl was a complete bitch(ANIMIAL) all she did was cry , cry and cry a flipping gain . .she was justa useless dog tbh . . . . . . . .

My head...

What to say...this is literally the only manga/manhwa series that made my head hurt throughout. The drama was overkill, honestly. Unnecessary. It's not suspenseful like "what's going to happen next?" but rather more like "wow, all the drama is caused by these characters' stupidity and insanity." The premise was unique and interesting, but that's where it stops. I started reading Goong out of boredom because of its popularity, and god knows how I managed to skim 50 ish chapters, but wow. Never have I encountered (and if you've read any manga at all you'd know there are plenty of douchebag male leads out there) such a selfish, arrogant, obnoxious male lead. I mean, there are ones where they appear jerkish but are supposedly "sweet and misunderstood yada yada" perhaps. Those, though overused, I can handle if truly executed well. But Shin can't be accurately described with anything softer than a cuss word which I'm not allowed to write on here. It's as if the author purposefully though "What's the worst personality I could give this guy? Oh I know." And it's sad because I'm honestly a fan of well developed anti-heroes/villains ect but even after Shin's back story was given to us, and we're shown some of his insecurities/weaknesses, I still can't muster an ounce of respect for him, even though I wanted to. I'm just utterly amazed at that. Yes he's hot, is a prince, rich, ect whatever, but does that alone seriously make a guy attractive? Wiping his hand after the female lead touched him because he thought she was dirty? Purposefully dumping her over a balcony into water to humiliate her? I can't recall exactly what happened, but it was something at that level. Most people can't even think of such things to do to another person, but he actually does it as if it's the right thing to do. In a way, I'm ironically impressed.

And the girl, had she had an ounce more of self-respect, would not have accepted his blatant disrespect for her. Instead, she follows him like an obsessive fangirl, claiming she loved the first person she could because of her loneliness, or something ridiculous like that. Maybe you won't be as disgusted by their relationship as I am, but I stand by my opinion on this. And actually, I really think everyone should try reading it just for an eye opener.

And right. The 2 points I gave this manhwa come from the art and occasional humor. It's funnier than most series because of how ridiculous the girl can get, in a good way (for once). The art, it's not anatomically perfect, and it's extremely frilly shoujo, but it's pretty (minus the way she draws lips). The lead's hairstyles always change and are quite unique. The way hair is drawn is beautiful, not to mention the uniforms are gorgeous as well. Eyecandy. But I still need to take aspirin.

This makes me so angry; the guy is a total ass, he treats her like crap, and she goes around thinking everything is her fault?!

It seemed so interesting at first, but really, it's such a let-down.

I don't get it.
The male lead is completely uncool. He is self-centered, always saying immature things, and kind of whiny.
Chae-Gyung, the female lead, is such a stereotypical useless fangirl. Her personality is friendly but bland, and her neediness towards Shin (who barely shows her any affection) just makes you feel bad for the poor girl. Her personality is usually overshadowed by Hyo-Rin, Shin's first love.

At the beginning, I really liked this series - but now, after 117 chapters, I'm pretty much done. As the series dragged and dragged on, whatever humor was originally present has vanished, the drama has increased by an enormous percentage, and somewhere along the road, I've stopped liking/feeling sorry for the characters, and have just become annoyed by them.

Also, at this point, I don't even remember a good deal of what has happened in the story, it being both not memorable enough and read too long ago. So I have almost no idea of what is happening anymore, and I'm certainly not going to put myself through re-reading.

I DID enjoy this at one point, but for me, said point has long passed. Once it finally ends (nowhere in the foreseeable future), and if I hear it got better from this point on, I may try it again and revise my opinion. But in the meantime, I think I'm dropping this.

''A modern fairy tale with a political twist''
Okay, I started reading 'Goong' out of boredom. A friend of mine told me that he was reading it so I thought I should give it a go as I couldn't find any other manga to read. I read the plot in Wikipedia and the story seemed to be pretty nice, rather unique- different from other Korean shoujos I have read till date. The art in the beginning is not up to the mark but it becomes better and better as the series progresses. The story goes good initially. I like how the author manages to bring up sudden comedy during some serious issue or when you least expected any comedy there. This manhwa has also been very informative for me! I came to know about the Korean royalty and culture. But, sometimes it turns to be a drag like the others said. The author is stretching the story which is irritating me. I want this manhwa to end now- with a good ending, of course. Keeping the 'dragging' issue aside, I will say its a good read for all Shoujo manga/manhwa lovers.
