Although, I actually wanted Yosano to end up with Satsuki but I can understand her being with Mamura. This series made me cry many times, it was a tough manga to read. I hate it but I love it (is this possible?). I honestly suggest all readers to read this, not just girls, but boys too. So you can understand what love is and what kind of hardship you'll go through.
This is very beautiful series, please I recommend it.

I think this one is definitely a readable and good one, art- and story-wise.
I do agree with the guys that it is typical and cliched. But I like its execution. Only problem is how rushed, despite making senses, it is towards the end. And I definitely don't like how usually, not just this but shoujo in common, elaborations on the guys' feeling are missing. I am pretty sure Shishio was devastated. And I am confused on how unconditional Mamura has been.
I don't dislike the female lead that bad, she was inexperienced for God's sake. It is just the choice of the author. She can try to make it work out for Shishio and Chunchun. But it can be the other way because somehow it seems more appropriate and approvable socially speaking. So somehow it is realistic to me.
But then I just feel damn sad for Shishio. I truly do. I think Mamura is nice and all. But its just the struggles Shishio bears. It hurts for both him and Suzuma. Mamura is the better person. But I still feel incredibly sad for Shishio. So so sad...
[2016 Update] Although I'm still sad, I'm a bit lightened up that I can re-read it sometimes. After a bit of conflict and personal deliberation, I thought the ending was for the best. I am still sad though. But I like the series as it is. Maybe a bit better for Shishio, please!
[2019 Update] Damn, I'm still super upset for Shishio's treatment from the author! She makes a side story pairing him with the manga editor girl which was too fast too furious. It leads nowhere. Then she makes another chapter further exploring their relationship. And the manga editor, to me, is too similar to Suzume... and more: nonchalant, stoned-face, have certain quirks, surpressive (in term of personal feelings and emotions in contrast to Shishio's extrovert appeals), blunt (can say things straight forward which is opposite of Shishio's downplaying his chains of thoughts). Still horrible treatments till the... extension. I'm down-grading this from 9 to 8.5.
As for Mamura, he still aces it all, haha. Like he is still sharp, honest, sometimes self-enduring because he gets too deep with his thinking and worrying about Suzume. But he says it and he shows it. So, of course they are still going strong.
There's a side story called "Cookie Girl Cream Boy" I just saw. It's a real Oreo treat for all. It's good, much better than enduring the pain caused by Shishio - Suzume - Mamura's love triangle. (So much pain for Shishio's part - although I'm all for Mamura, I can't help feeling so sad for the "Ryuusei" of the manga title - that when I re-read, I only read from chapter 52 or so onward.

People say it's not the ending but the journey to get there. I believe it's a combination of both. For me, a good story has an awesome start, a great body, and of course a satisfying conclusion which is something I found lacking in this manga.
I really hate it when characters lie for no reason except to keep the plot going. How many characters lie in shoujo simply because telling the truth would alleviate the drama.

I like the choice she made.
One kept making her cry due to his own indecisiveness.
One decided to make a move even though he know he doesn't stand much of a chance and is true to his feelings. Not to mention all he wanted was the girl that he love to be happy.
Isn't it obvious which love interest is the better choice? It's better to be with someone who loves you, more than someone that you love.
It makes me like the pairing even more because he is not the first love. I hate how most shoujo always make the lead end up with the first love even though the second guy is OBVIOUSLY better. (Yes I'm looking at you, Strobe Edge)
It's more realistic, but maybe for this manga it was TOO fast. Nonetheless, I like how she chose the better guy. (One reason why I always like Josei better)

This manga was full of emotions! I cried like a snotty brat for everyone's share. I couldn't hate anyone. I could sympathize with each character. Feeling what each one of them was going through was intense, definitely in a good way. It was a great read! (still crying damn it T_______T)
in the end, whether it was happy or sad... the ending didn't matter because the journey was very satisfying.
Also I think this was more mature than a "shoujo".

I actually really liked this manga, which is a surprise for me because I don't like teacher X student relationships. However, I loved the main character and found her easy to relate to in most situations. I liked the almost realistic take on how things don't always work out.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Like how things weren't suddenly okay with Yosano and Sensei. Things went down and they didn't magically disappear from either of their memories or get dismissed like in a lot of manga. When Sensei said he didn't love Yosano, she couldn't just laugh it off when he said he'd lied like a lot of shoujo characters do. She was hurt, so she did what a real girl would do: moved on. That's another element I really liked. Yosano didn't keep coming back to Sensei. She figured out what was good for her and what she wanted. She didn't stick with her first love for the sake of being with him. She let herself become emotionally attached to Mamura and eventually found herself unable to love Sensei anymore because she had Mamura instead.
I honestly didn't think I'd care for this manga, but it kept me entertained for a few days. It's also easily forgettable, however. I can't remember most of the major plot points and I JUST finished it. The ending leaves a good taste in your mouth, however, so I guess it's fine. My grand total rating? Ehhhh about a 6.5/10. It was cute, kinda cliché, kinda not cliché, and already I've forgotten every name except Mamura's.This is such a bad manga

But if any manga were to choose the second love over the first, this one depicted it the best. It just goes to show how society likes first love stories. The reason why her choice didn't feel perfect is because the author illustrated her love of both of them as true love(depending on the interpretation), which is something that can't change depending on the person. We like to think of love interests as soul mates, and other halves and this is the reason why we can't tolerate second loves. This viewpoint does not really show up in real life but it's everywhere in the shoujo world (of media). I think this is the reason why so many people, including myself, might have disliked the story, even though it was written so well, and prettily *sniffles*
Somehow, it feels unrealistic how she changed so easily, but hey, it depends on the person right? ... Right?

I love this manga! Honestly not your typical predictable shoujo romance manga! Especially because of the ending, which I felt not rushed or in what other people might think as the author's revenge. Laughed my butt off when I read that review. ((Which in part fueled me to write my very first review in this website and to encourage others to read this if they haven't already.)) The artwork is beautiful, and I love the characters and plot.
So I love the ending. And I feel like all those people that hated the ending are basing off their review on that last chapter and not on the whole manga itself. Which I think is really bias, but aren't all reviews, including this one, bias? Just don't flame this manga because of the last chapter. Because let's face it, along the way you loved it so much that you read it till the end. So yes, I love this manga and you should definitely read this if you haven't. Totally worth the read. Especially if you want an ending not typical of that of the normal shoujo romance manga we have nowadays. I hope Ao Haru Ride somewhat ends like this. Although after reading chapter 46 I highly doubt it.

I love how she choose Mamura. Since majority of the shoujo romance manga, or any manga in general, the main character will always end up with the first person, also known as the person that many of the readers support. I, on the other hand, always somehow support the underdogs or those who I know deep in my gut won't get the girl or guy in the end. So I was practically oozing happiness when that didn't happen in this manga. Finally the author lets the underdog, the plan b, the nice guy, the one that finishes last, the one that everyone suspects to end up used and/or broken hearted, gets chosen by the main character! Go Mamura! Though I have no hatred towards sensei.
So I love the ending. And I feel like all those people that hated the ending are basing off their review on that last chapter and not on the whole manga itself. Which I think is really bias, but aren't all reviews, including this one, bias? Just don't flame this manga because of the last chapter.
