This story is pretty awesome
I really enjoyed reading this one. The story is pretty good, though it has some flaws. I don't really like harem/reverse harem stories but this one was well written. The art was pretty good too, no complaints on this part. Of course there were some parts of it that I didn't like.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
The fact that she was kissing other guys besides the main character was not something I liked. Of course these kisses were either forced or out of necessity(Where Usagi needed to seduce this jerk to escape from being held captive. And also kissing the same jerk to put him to sleep(read the story for details).) She also tried to kiss this one guy to forget about the main guy(she was not aware that the main guy was still alive at that point). But the main guy was not spring chicken either(he kissed at least one girl before meeting Usagi(the main heroine of the story), so I guess it somewhat evens out. I am the type of guy that believes that there is only one man for one woman, that is why I am not a fan of harems, these plots were not something I enjoyed.
Well, the story has great romance, good amount of comedy and drama. Though the comedy is not that great, but good nonetheless. The ending is one of the best I ever read, I don't know why one of the comments says the ending is bad, it ties up everything nicely and we even get to see a bit of the future for the main characters.
I am taking 1 point away for the reasons that are enclosed in the spoiler tag but still, give this series at try, you will enjoy it.
I will be honest when I say that I didn't likethe main character, particularly at the start, when she was a spectacular crybaby. I also thought the romance between her and Hanzo was quite clichéd. However, I think this manga stands very well thanks to the wonderful art and historical setting, on which a large amount of the plot revolves. There's a wide range of interesting characters and there's always something interesting going on. Be warned, though; it's the kind of manga where everyone falls in love with the main character for no reason. Ultimately, though, the relationships are very engaging, the plot reaches a very good climax but the ending was a bit disappointing. It is the historical setting that really sets this manga apart though, and the art is wonderful. Definitely recommended, although don't expect anything TOO deep.
The actual romance was SOOO slow to begin but once it did it was cute...But then BAM the story went on fast forward mode. War broke out and everyone died? Usagi became pretty and independent? OH WAIT thats a lie!!! Like what the hell was that. Dead people just popped out of nowhere, some became saints, etc for no other good reason than "tra le da le da" I have a few pages left so lets just draw something...AND Everything just ended with a pretty bow?!? UGH so basically it was cute, funny, but after the middle part it was just some plain bad story development. BUT GOOD READ IF YOU BORED!!!
So I finally read the entire manga and I am glad to say that it is awesome...Usagi matures so well in the last part of the story as does Mamezo, however does stray away from the lightheartedness that it was when the manga bean.
An entertaining ninja story
First off, I have always really liked this mangaka's art style. I've re-read this series 3-4 times and I enjoy it each time.
I probably like it so much because I understand Usagi's inability to get the guy and be good at athletic stuff. She's really great at medicine but people only want her to be a ninja, which just isn't her thing - something I get. She is a little annoying sometimes, what with being pretty lazy and kind of a crybaby at times. I feel Usagi embodies the lazy crybaby in all of us. At the end of the day, she does what is necessary and takes care of those she cares about.
I also enjoyed the political intrigue and the glimpse into Japan's history. The series is pretty long so it can seem like it drags out to some people, but I thought it was pretty exciting and it always gets me hooked, every time I read it!

I got the first volume of this series as a Christmas present ( oh side note: dont give ppl books unless u know that they really wanted that book bc I got 6 different series n I hate all of them..), and as I mention ina really long side note, I hate it. The main character.... I CAN'T stand her.. she is so man crazy!!! I read the pre-quel in the magazine and I freaking love it (I read the prequel 3 times!) So I tried to reread this again.. this time I got up to 1.5 volume before I gave up.. so if u hate useless, man crazy girl, then dont read it. I like the rest of the characters though (esp. The main boy.. oh mine xD)
.....This left a bad taste in my mouth
Maybe I'm just becoming cynical after reading 100+ shoujo series.
Either way, this manga was nothing short of awful, and had little real substance to it. It was just like any other bad shoujo series...incapable girl falls in love with the unattainable hot guy, the hot guy doesn't care for her....then later, childhood friend shows up with romantic interest in the incapable girl, and hot guy becomes jealous and wants the incapable girl after realizing how loyal/cute/fun/etc she is. The cycle continues and ends with happily ever after for everybody.
I wouldn't have minded the generic plot above if the manga had delve deeper into the characters' inner struggles/feelings/actual romantic developments... but none was present. The main girl was cute enough and I loved how she was very good with making herbal medicines, but her development and the scenes were so hastily done that I had no chance of relating/bonding/getting attached to her at all.
I wouldn't have batted an eyelash had she been killed and then fed to the dogs. In fact, I would probably given this manga a higher rating if that had happened.
The art was good though, and the guy was hot--so it deserves credit in that respect. However, the plot and story falls behind by a stretch. Don't waste your time if you want to read something complex.

One of my favorites.
The characters were likable. They were well-drawn and developed along the way. The art, though not great, is still fine, too. But what really hit it for me was the plot. It is amazing. There wasn't a point where I got bored. It's refreshing since it's not your ordinary type of shoujo. The ending's very well done too. There were no loose ends and it was satisfying.
I just finished reading this and it is absolutely fantastic. You wouldn't regret reading this.
I'm happy that I finally read the prequel to this(never knew there was one) so now things make a bit more sense. Although I put this series on hold because I CAN'T STAND how boy crazy the main girl is, she's so superficial in my eyes. Other than that, the art is beautiful, and I shall try and finish it.
I don't know why everyone is saying that this manga is bad and all, but I find it okay! But of course, I never really liked how Usagi act. In the beginning, I actually enjoyed seeing how she acts, especially the part where Mamezou was bullied and how she protected him and yelled at Suzune, it was very nice! But when it comes to Goemon when he was hurting, she kept on telling Hanzo about "Goemon this, Goemon that" IT'S SO FRIGGIN IRRITATING!!!!!!
I bet I would even act like Hanzo if someone I like does that to me. And after that, during the climax of the story, I feel like slapping her when she says that she wanna marry Yukimaru, JUST because she reminisces of how Yukimaru has been so nice to her and all, and she decided to yell it out loud. What a fool. So foolish and acts as she likes. I thought she has grown into a strong character after that war. Ugh. The storyline is good, don't get me wrong. I just dislike how Usagi acts like sometimes. She's strong sometimes, but then she'll fall back to being a stupid girl as well.
Mind you, I gave it a 9.5 because of the BISHIES!!!! Oh gawd. Hanzo is such a friggin' hottie. Oh right, and before you read this, make sure you read the prequel to get to know the characters like Sara and blonde hair Hanzo. But the Hanzo from this main story and the Hanzo from the prequel seems like a complete different character. I mean, how come the Hanzo in this manga acts like as if he's a very decent guy but in the prequel, he acts like as if he's the carefree type, I mean, how come he can accept the marriage of him and Sara so quickly without seeing her when in this manga, he rejects the marriage proposal with Usagi so quickly. I find this very weird. It's like a change of character between the Hanzo in this manga and in the prequel one. Whatever. As long as the ending in this story is good.
