I loved the English anime, with the voice acting of Kanda and Allen and Kroary and Lavi and all the others! I bought both seasons in English and can't wait for the next season!!! I finished reading the series quickly because i also wanted to know what was going to happen next. I love it, especially Allen's reaction to Cross! I love all the random hilarious moments!! smile

I would agree with the previous review and add that at some point the art style changes so much that it's hard to recognise people. It seems more like a different person writing it than just the mangaka being ill, but I guess people can change that much.

But still, the first 3/4 or so is awesome, a but derivative but so's everything.. and some really memorable fcked-up moments. and the anime is even better. Just read it until it starts really annoying you, then make up your own ending. Or wait for the Anime to re-start and hope for some serious editing (because there's still a story in there somewhere, and it is starting to get better again), but that will probably never happen.

In my opinion, D. Grey Man is my favorite series. The anime was breath taking and each episode made me so excited to watch. I was disappointed when the anime ended as it left many questions un-answered. And so, I decided to start reading the manga and actually, it was the first manga I have ever read. My heart would throb when I saw that a new chapter was released but now, I've lost it. From EXACTLY chapter 194, the manga started going down hill for me. It was getting sketchy and I had no idea what was going on. I STILL don't know whats going on. Personally, I believe they have made Allen look like a girl and he was all I looked forward to. I continue reading this manga because of Allen Walker <3 but still, I can easily say now that I do not like it as much as I used to. Some of you may like it but, it's no longer what it used to be. I miss the old Allen. T-T

It all just went... downhill

Overall: Great art, confusing story line. Lengthy story, and requires a full out attention span and to start from the beginning- and if you're hooked, you'll be stuck on the bandwagon forever... unless you're like the rest of the DGM fans, and find that latest chapters have been... ugh.
The art is amazing. You won't get sick of them, unlike others of which you take one look at a stony face and turn away. By itself, the art is a masterpiece. She has her style, but it changes every so often. It sadly isn't always clean, but that's because of the heavy contrasting of darks and lights. (Not the scanlations bigrazz )
The plot line is like a maze. Just when you think you understand it some, she turns some other way, confusing you further. At first, it goes kind of slow, but it soon picks up the pace with fighting and handsomely drawn action scenes.
The sense of humor that follows certain characters can never leave one's mind. Each character has a different personality, obviously, but it's very simple to keep one separate from another, and very clear in aspects. At least one character will come to your liking.
It isn't ecchi, and it isn't dirty. It's humorous, sometimes with adrenaline pumped action, sometimes with playful way-too-strong-but-won't-kill hits. It isn't some boring love story either, filled with lots of horror sometimes, but not at all scary. It brings out the sad and true morals of life... just sometimes interpreted in different, chaotic ways.
Lately: You can call it a fall-back manga now. It used to be... it the top thirty's? But people just can't keep up anymore. Someone wouldn't understand if you started to read at chapter 200... and now, well, someone wouldn't really enjoy it either.
I would recommend this to someone who likes dark humor and some action fighting, not someone who likes blood on every page.

I just am totally confused by the plot jump from the chapter before the hiatus and after. I really couldn't understand how they got to such a panicked scene... but oh well. I decided to give it some time to get much more chapters out, so that I can read and dissect it at my leisure... so I really haven't read much of the new art style.

I understand she hurt her wrist, but I just can't help but be wistful about the old style.... I was really in love with it.... oh well... I just have to get over it. Maybe, as she recovers, it will slowly morph back into the old style (big maybe)? Change in general is something I have issues dealing with, but I'm trying to keep an open mind.

I was just totally confused by the first post-hiatus chapter..... If you haven't gotten that by now.

people, people, people - THIS is the successor to Bleach/Naruto/One Piece.
i began reading this with mixed thoughts. they are exorcists trying to kill metal balloons and a fat guy. that was what i came into reading it thinking. bad idea. i soon found out that the plot is both original and exciting with much room for speculation. the characters are well thought out and have unique personalities.
what sets this apart from other religious conspiracy/exorcist/government conspiracy mangas is that its almost like the exorcists are fighting against the ones who give them the power (at least according to speculation up to the current point)

this is an amazing read. the artwork gets much better as the series goes on so expect awesomeness

Very nice.
I'm not realy a shounen fan but there are good doses of comedy and drama that keeps me interested.
The plot is interesting (though I find it a little annoying when they talk about how god did this and god did that like the noah stuff because I don't believe in god).
The mangaka's style is very pretty and the chars are very likeble.
A good read

At first I thought this would be very unique, but it turned out to be similar to FMA in its tone and atmosphere. Only it doesn't have some of the deep pain that FMA did, and as such it lacks real depth... It's just one "mission" after another, without being as dark or as thought-provoking as it could be. The idea of Innocence being a weapon is really damn cool, and I can't help feeling that the mangaka could've made better use of it...

Then again, that's just me. If you're looking for a decent action manga to get into, then this will work great for you. However, if you're looking for something really brilliant and original... This is not it.

There's been a lot of complaint about DGM's changing art style and plotline. Guys, changes like that are natural in a series, and show how the characters are changing. A looser representation of Allen in a panel, for example, represents his laziness or noncompliance. Just because he's losing his cute, naive demeanor in the course of the war doesn't mean you can attack the author and her prize series.
I myself have been happy with the latest chapters. We ARE in fact solving some of the mysteries of the series as we move into the 190th chapter (Alma Karma and Kanda's lotus, etc) and even earlier (Cross' disappearance and the appearance of the 14th). Pay attention, readers. Notice the captivating plot that is developing.
My only question is: where has Lavi gone? We havent seen him since before the Kanda/Allen paris mission. I hope he enters the story again soon.
For readers starting the series, the 16 volumes that are available is the US now are INCREDIBLE. they are my favorite manga and I'm sure you'll enjoy them too. <3

I picked up this series long ago when I had seen a preview of it in Shonen Jump. I was immediately drawn to how lovely the art and characters looked. Then one day, a year or so later, I saw the series at my local bookstore. I opened it and didn't close it until I was finished. I stayed in that bookstore for a while reading the different volumes. It's a great series. Allen is a tad too goody-goody at the start, but as you read on, he matures. There is great storyline and character development. Even the evil characters are lovable (I mean come on! The Earl is a jolly old fat guy with a different top hat every time) I really love DGM. To this day it's my favorite manga/anime series. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes shonen manga, or just manga with that lovely historical flare. I just hope it doesn't get a bad rep because it's a popular shonen series...
