seems like noone until now did a comment about it being lincensed now, well let me be the first one:
GODDAMMIT!!!! the world is just too cruel T_T why? why?! why HOTD?!?!?!

From Xamayon Scans:
Yen Press has announced that they have licensed High School of the Dead in North America, as such we will no longer be continuing the series. Here's to hoping they do at least as kickass of a job as we would have.

And let us not forget the message from the author...

BUY LEGALITY COOL COMIC!!!

We'll post links (to amazon of course ;P) when the first volume is available in english~

After reading through a couple of people's reviews.. how they complain about how their is not enough plot information, just purely entertainment... I want to say one thing.

Manga IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT. So, if its purely entertainment, does that not make it good enough? If you don't like ecchi, don't read it. Simple.

Anyway, I think this is an awesome manga, although yes, the background information is little, the action, gore and art makes up for it. 9/10.

the anime is really like the manga, but the bgm ruins most of the great parts. they should use the music from the trailer. For the manga i only have to say - awesome. You can describe it in 3 words: zombies, weapons, fanservice

This is one of the most gruesome gnarly series ever! it sort of reminds me of Gantz, and it is fucking amazing! If you like action, gore, psychological, fan service and awesomeness then High School of the Dead is a must read!

when i first read this series i loved it, but when i came back to read it after the hiatus, i have to say i was substantially less impressed, i mean, you already know who will die, namely everyone other than the main 7 or so characters, and those guys aren't even that well developed, asside from the standard 2-d 1-line descriptions, like "the previously under acheving leader", "love interest A, the angry one with a sword" ect. and just to put it out there, i fucking hate "fan service", if i want porn, i'll go download some, it ain't that fucking hard to find, cause i like my commics panty-shot-free just like i like my porn story-free

There's only one Highschool of the Dead. No clone, no other series come close to its qualities.

Sure, lots of highschool zombie manga out there. but to combine all of its genres together in one perfect package of beautiful art, it's the only of the kind.

We search in vain for others like it. Still no sign, so far...

EDIT: Years passed and my verdicts remain unchanged. There's a heck of a lot manga, novels, games, films in this genre. In the manga world, Highschool of the Dead reign suppreme.

Inazuma what more can I say. Beautiful detailed artstyle and background combined with his love for perverse things combined with gore. Let's also not forget that if you love zombie stories/movies, this is something you should check out. Love the funny little references as well to other zombie and non zombie movies/stories.

Pretty nice

This series is pretty nice. It contains nice artwork and a good setting. I hear it alot that people critizise the lack of background knowledge, especially on the outbreak. Actually, the author put enough in there for someone who studies biology to make sense out of it. Actually there are poisons in this world, that can create similar effects. The psychology is as realistic as hell. Every psychologist could tell you that people would act that way. Well, the bath scene maybe was only for fanservice, but laughing it off, and trying to fill your mind with nonsense is how normal, untrained people would act in the situation of those youths.

On the bad side, i have to agree that the author should have added more information, especially no the reactions of every faction of the world. Honestly, with the nuclear arsenals on this world, if any such outbreak happens, I wouldn't be surprised if the surface would have turned to ashes. Since I like the base setting I'd rather have it as a novel than a manga.

Girls, fanservice, zombies, guns, and every premise a horror/action genre can throw at you. Great for casual reading, and the character development is not that bad either, but it remains to be seen as not all the backstory of the main characters are revealed as yet.

As of this point, I feel that the progress of the group's survival and objectives are depicted too slowly, and has eroded my interest in the series.
