Description
From Viz:
Why is Setsuna so mixed up? Despite his attempts to be noble, he'll fight anyone anytime; he ignores all authority; and he harbors feelings for his sister that can only be described as "incestuous." Why is he such a mess? The reason may be found with two demons from the underworld and their enemy, an insane angel who is distributing an insidious computer game called Angel Santuary.

Some people might complain that the plot was confusing or that it veered off topic, but I thought it gave the story a realistic quality. Life is never as simple as a storybook plot, but I think this manga did a good job showing how in a big picture its the little things that are important.
The beginning and ending weren't that great but the entire story was awesome because of the character development.I loved the madhatter and the story of Alexiel and Lucifer.

Another twisty, angsty, dark and disturbing manga from Kaori Yuki. This manga is very long, with part questioning sexuality and social stigma. That being said, it is one of my favorite manga.
Kaori Yuki has a very lovely art style, it feels gothic but shiny. The characters and setting are all illustrated with extreme attention of detail. The outfits vary from simple to extravagant with fantasy and rock music inspiration(?).
The plot does get a bit confusing at times but is a general get from point A to point B and save the princess sort of thing. There are many subplots/backstories going on during the main plot that are quite interesting to read. I didn't really like the use of "forbidden love", but it's not done badly, there was no choking at the level of clichés used because they were well incorporated to the plot with adjustments and twists. The main character and many of the supporting characters have good development and motivations; especially the main ones, that seem to go through a continuous chain of events without rest and come out leaving a much different impression than what I first thought of them. The plot may be lost at times in a sea of subplots but it always manages to rise back to the main focus.
Overall the art is beautiful, the character are well rounded and the plot is interesting and (for the most part) appropriately complex.

Most of the time mixing lots of things don't bear good outcomes, but this could be one of those exceptions because it has almost every genre and controversial topic blend in without problem and always push you thinking outside of the box.
Exhausting! but kinda Good

Really Exhausting!!! Parts that make tired is part love between Sara with Setsuna. It was very very tiring! Strange and obscure origins! Not that I hated Sibling Love/incest, but the manga is different. Forbidden love between Setsuna and Sara was very strange!
I didn't tell the story in this manga all bad. There are quite a lot of good parts. As various scenes where Setsuna becomes very soft, like his old self. Section where he helped many people. Or cry because they feel guilty.
My favorite part is where Setsuna looks very very sweet, pretty, and cute! Where he looks strong and soft. Although he was a guy, but I liked him on that one.
Okay, it's enough to be recommended!!

4. It was just too much...
i put this on hold for 2 years...and i am glad i did...i finally picked it up again as a Freshmen in college...and i still think it is God awful...but i'm glad to cross this one off the list...great art...miserable plot...and KIRA....and like Yuki Kaori's other works...full of angst and tragedy...heavy on the Tragedy...

This was the first manga I ever read online... because I had access to paper copies up to the 19th volume or something and it was impossible to stop there.
... Then I finished it and swore never to touch it again.
Mind, this is only my personal taste. Angel Sanctuary has a gripping but immensely convoluted plot, plenty of taboo subjects, and in-depth characterization. It's not bad at all, just hard on the heart.
... plus, my favourite character was Lucifer... >___> and, mind you, that's a very good argument for never reading the series again.

One thing I will say is that I really liked the art. Buuuut... that's about all I really liked about Angel Sanctuary. The characters weren't very memorable for me, and the plot was unnecesarily confusing at times. Also... the incest just wasn't really believable for me. In general, I didn't really care for this manga. If you're looking for something dark and fantastical, I'd go check out something cooler like "Death Note" or "20th Century Boys."

OK, I realise this manga may not be for everyone: there's incest, the plot is convoluted, there are about a thousand characters (and some of them look kind of alike). But it's one of my personal favourites. Why? Because I like each and every one of the characters (even Sevy). They're all distinctive and have personalities. I believe in all their motives. Most of all, the plot always has direction and it makes sense (at least to me). Needless to say, the art is beautiful.
Oh, and Sakuya Kira is the hottest thing on paper.

I assume when Yuki Kaori drew this manga she did it with the intention of shocking the audience. Throughout the whole manga every taboo is mentioned, from incest to crossdressing...
I have to admit it did put me off a little at first... and I say only a little, because personally the story drew me in so much I couldn't stop reading, and was sadly disappointed when it ended. The artwork got better as the story went on, so was very nice to look at. The only real problem I had with this manga was sometimes so complicated I had to go back and ead certain parts to catch up to what I was reading then and there.
I'd provide a summary, but looks like it has been done for me, so all I have left to say is... read it!
