Well, what can i say, i always fall for pretty art, and in 'Say "I love you"''s case, the art is merely gorgeous, at least. Plus the story is one of the most romantic and fairy-tale like, though contains a big deal of realistic details to be considered both natural and very cute. I will definitely read it.

One of the more realistic takes on how a person falls for another and what's behind the playboy attitude. The smut was necessary for this story to really convey the message. I like the heroine's personality. But most of all, I like how the characters are fleshed out so that you can understand the reasons behind their actions. Plus, the male protagonist is a hot bishie.

Say i Love you is the story about a girl who is anti social to the point that she has no friends because of a singular event that happened when she was 5 years old. First year of highschool she suddenly gets boyfriend. The story is about her coming out of her shell. Becoming more mellow gaining friends and self confidence throughout the series. Now even though this sounds good its just kinda boring. Now I liked the cute moments that came with the MMC and FMC but its just so boring. There is little build up. No tension. Things just happen. Now the series is set over 10 years. the first 15 volumes being about high school, volume 16,17 being about college and 18 being post college. The thing was though it was actually confusing to keep up. Years would go by and it wouldn't really be explained at the same time the author would spend so much time over one thing you'd think there were still in first year. The only well written character in the series was Megu arguably the main heroine rival for the FMC. But she was easily the best to read about. She wants to the be the best model and the things she do and her pain that suffers through. She was literally the only reason i enjoyed the manga. There were other moments that involved other characters but like they were just far too few. Overall the story is pretty straightforward. Being about the cute moments of the Main characters and the side characters. However cuteness aside the series felt shallow. The only Character that wasn't shallow (hilariously) was Megu who's personality trait was being shallow. 6/10. Kind of a waste of talent from the author.

There is character development. GASP!!! Mei is a really lovable character, I enjoyed following her grow as a person. its a nice series I don't think you should feel turn off from reading the other reviews.
I understand why some people say that they find the series gets really tedious as they continue, but that is mostly true if you have been sticking with the series for a while. I read volume 1 to 8 in one go, I felt that it was really cute. Currently there are 10 -11 volumes available should you feel to annoyed with the support character stories then skip them.

I'm up to chapter four in this series, and since I've liked it so much, I have to comment! Well, you know, it IS a shoujo, so there are cliches and those little generic moments. But other than that, this manga is awesome. It just is. It portrays high school/ previous middle school feelings and situations pretty spot on and realistically, unlike many shoujos. The characters are loveable and unique. The heroine ain't no pushover but she has weak spots and the main guy isn't some super shoujo guy who is "perfect-in-every-way-and-has-no-flaw-except-for-his-deep-love-for-the-heroine" type. He's got his flaws too.
I haven't gotten to the smutty parts yet, but from what other people here have said, it adds to the story and relationship. So! A must read for anyone who is looking for some good readin'. Oh, and it's pretty funny too. So, read Say I Love You, and fall in love too! (So corny. I know.)
P.S. I think Mei, the main character, isn't plain at all! She's not over the top pretty, but she's really cute and has a style that she rocks.

this is a good one! seems cliché and i guess it is, but the main character is like.. normal... aka not a ditz, not a clutz, not all cutesy. she's blunt & anti-social and yeah. it's good. read it smile

I have to say that it is pretty good! smile I really enjoy the art and storyplot, even if it may be a bit cliche, but it doesn't give you that feeling at all. I feel like I'm reading an all new manga with a good plot! smile And I adore the characters biggrin

Update: WOW, I can't believe it's been 9 years since this all started. I was thankfully able to finish the series by borrowing/reading the VIZ books from my local library. I'm so happy that I could follow Mei & Yamato on their journey together through high school and beyond. It was truly a breath of fresh air when shoujo mangas about school life can get so redundant and cliche. Even just reading the end-of-volume comments from the mangaka always put a smile on my face smile It can feel slow at times, but that was only because I've been reading this since day 1. My only complaint is how neatly everything tied up

like how EVERY single couple from high school made it to marriage/kids
, but hey, that's shoujo manga for you lol It was a whirlwind adventure and I loved every minute of it!

I love this series. And it's seriously not being scanalated fast enough sigh

I love the art, the story and the characters. Mostly I love how Yamato loves Mei. They have their ups and downs, but in the end they still remember what's important to them.

the main good point of this manga is that the two main characters are waiting to have sex with eachother because they cherish one anouther. especially with a lot of peer pressure and sleezy friends. the main character is learning how to be in love and have friends. the main guy is a typical school prince/model. (you know the basics haha)

there are some smutty scenes with side characters, but its not like hard core or anything.
its a nice read over all.
