This manga is trying to do everything by brute force.
The elements that are supposed to be comedy aren't, because they get rubbed in your face like a sign that reads "laugh now".
The same goes for the totally unnecessary ecchi scenes (sidenote: l2draw breasts if you want to give them 120cm racks), the plot, and, to an extent, the characters.
Speaking of characters, this is what I found to be the only good point in the manga, they are quite diverse, but in the end, get used up so fast that very few are memorable.
Another point is, at times it tries to make sense by explaining stuff, but only moments later comes up with some bullshit that invalidates what was previously explained, coming up with ridiculous stuff that ignore's the rules it set for itself.
Bottom line: I can see what they are trying to do, they took elements from many popular genres, and ridicule them by pushing them over the top of what you usually see.
But too much of something is almost never a good thing, and this manga just proves it.
Just for comparison, Gintama does everything what Medaka Box is trying to do, only better, and not so much over the top that it hurts itself.

If you want a normal manga, this is not what you are looking for. This is the farthest thing from your typical shounen manga. People call it stupid, weird, and over the top. In a sense, it's pretty accurate, and that's what makes it unique. The characters, especially, are the reasons why this is such a non-mainstream manga.
It's so stupid at times, it's genius. Stupid things happen all the time in real life, so why do they not happen in manga? In actuality, this manga is actually a fairly intelligent read. They rip apart the common cliches of manga and illustrate a new and more unique alternative. Is it confusing? It's meant to be. There is a lot of dialogue, but it is meant to explain the strange train of thoughts that characters possess. Otherwise it's pretty simple, blunt and funny how the plot progresses.
It's so weird at times, it's creative. The twists and turns of the manga are created by no one else but by the characters. The flow is unnatural, which is strangely completely reasonable due to what the characters are like. It's like predicting the movements of a insane man. You can be interested in what you see, even though it isn't what you expected.
It is over the top, but so are many good things in life. Medaka Box is a reasonable manga, so although the characters go over the top at times, it's because of their purposely weird characteristics. It was never portrayed as a realistic manga to begin with, especially when weird people have existed in the manga since the first chapter and accumulating non-stop. This is no different than a regular shonen manga, where the protagonist fights stronger people with powerful, and stranger abilities, so I see no reason why to complain.
It starts with a normal premise, but eventually it gets weirder. That's where things get interesting and funny. Eventually you will be confused by the writing style, and at the same time you will get attached to it. The greatest way to read this manga is to expect nothing. Enjoy the characters, enjoy the bashing of cliches, and enjoy the strange world of Medaka Box.

Medaka Box is prolly one of the most underated and misunderstood Manga out there.
Most of people fail to see that everything is just exagerated on purpose.
The character are clearly exagerated on purpose. All have an overexagerated clichée personnality. The story and setting is too clichée and totally stupid with a lot of refererence to other Jump Manga... But everything is clearly made on purpose and exagerated.
It's why, when you read Medaka Box you must not take it seriously at all... Even the super power name are exagerated on purpose.
in the end it's a fun manga... And not some crappy one like a lot of people, who, unfortunately, failed to see that's you must not take it serisouly, said.
in fact, taking Medake Box like a "serious" Jump Battle Manga like Bleach, Naruto etc... It's like taking Gintama for one too.

the manga at the moment seems like a joyful simple read and it is. but i think that if the story progresses it can become something pretty great. the characters are great and well medaka is perfect...in every way possible. if this manga can pull out a deep storyline (like mahou tsukai kurohime did which was absolutely pointless in the beginning then later becoming one of my favorite manga's) then i hope for this to succed. The art is simply gorgeous and the characters as well. it has a good basic idea that if the author can write a more in depth storyline i can see this becoming a popular and pretty great manga.
all in all, as of right now this manga is simply still a good read for a laugh or a chance to see some beautiful girls. the story is decent. atleast for now just give it a beginners welcome and read a bit

The art is nice and Medaka, the heroine, is very likeable. So much so that she seems to outshine the male lead. And from the first chapter I kinda get the premonition of what is to be a overly-protective male lead. (I pray not.)
The story itself is interesting enough, and I hope that it turns out well.

I don't care what anyone says but this manga is so over the top and crazy that I find it to be absolutely terrific. It is fast paced and the plot barely makes any sense but thats what gives it its charm. Just take it for what it is and you will enjoy it. Once you start pondering and questioning the story progression, you will lose that insanely zealous, ramped, and crazy uniqueness this manga has. Just enjoy it at face value.
Not bad.

Good art, funny story and unique characters. It is pretty silly, it does drag a bit and it is becoming a bit predictable. Chapter 21 is the conclusion of a major story arc so now is a good time to test drive it.

Medaka is, by far, the most interesting shounen 2009 has given us so far.
Medaka is TOTALLY hot and has personality traits that might go like "ubber" or so, but this manga takes that as a joke and makes fun of itself with it.
No deep drama, true, but original content based on clichéd, everyday stuff is awesome.
Male character IS the main one. Think of it as if it were Haruhi. **spoiler** You start thinking that she is god, but you go on to realize it might be Kyon the actual God.**/Spoiler**
Not the best thing EVER, but very funny and entertaining. For a shounen, it does it's job and it does it well. What the heck are you expecting? Berserk?

Story sums up as an original combination of cliche elements. Putting to perspective the student council position and their quirky interactions with other clubs. Much like Yankee kun to Megane chan. This story fails at humor though....

First I thought the female lead is one of those stereotypical arrogant queens. But that's definitely not the case. She is unselfish and treats the others kindly and respectfully. She is also very skilled. The guy is okay but not interesting. Medaka IS the good point of this manga and the reason I'll keep reading this.
