I read the novel on Baka-Tsuki and it is a bit confusing to read it due to all the names and terms, so it is a bit better to read the manga in that point of view. This manga is very cliche and not something that is very unique and doesn't give the "wow" effect. The drawing is very comfortable to see/read, but I am a bit disappointed on how they adapted this manga from the novel. I personally think that the novel is better. I am not really sure why but I tend to be more excited and interested in the novel.

Definitely overrated

Unique plot (but NOT setting) BUT tends to dump too much info at once. These explanations also takes some time to understand, which to be honest, becomes tiring after a few times. Maybe some people just skip over it, but isn't that what's supposed to make this story different from other magic stories (how their world works)? I believe being concise is what the writer lacks. And what's up with the fan service and incest-like stuffconfused Downgrades the whole thing.

Protagonist may be ok but...

This manga still follows a cliche that brings it down. That being the the protagonist has a huge sister complex and conversely the sister has a huge brother complex. It's sickening and really throws off the story as they will do anything for each other.

So far it hasn't gotten in the way but the sibling complex is a known cliche that doesn't take effect until late in the game. So this manga has started surprisingly well but I can say with confidence that it will turn into a mess because of this cliche.

Finished it. Still don't get it. Also, what's the guy's secret?

Overall verdict: Meh and that's it?

All that I understood about his secret was that it had to do with his aura or something.

I wanted to learn more what he's angsting about, but instead I get chapters of him just showing how badass he was (which was okay at first, but weren't particularly interesting) and then getting involved in some terrorist plot, and the manga was OVER. Like, wut.

Interesting take on magic, but has a tendency to info-dump (show, not tell). Despite not being ecchi, I was mildly miffed by the unnecessary fanservicing, especially that one random chapter at the beach (I think it was an extra, so that somewhat forgivable). The discrimination aspects were overdone, in my opinion. Rather cliched in its presentation. Subtler would have been more effective and truer to real life.

BTW, to the person saying read the novel. Screw that. I'm here to read a manga, not a novel. I'm rating a manga here, and not a novel. If the manga fails to deliver without support from an outside reference, be it novel or anime, it fails as a manga. Maybe the novel is a million times better, but the manga still sucks and cannot stand on its own.

EDIT: If I didn't like the prequel, I don't think I even have the inclination to read the sequel. Even ignoring the fact that nothing was really resolved, I would have been less upset if the plot of this "arc" was actually interesting and added to the overall story. There was really no point other than having the characters show off and hint at some evil organization. *Yawn* Been there, done that. Unless someone manages to convince me the sequel isn't the same boring teasing bull, I've got better things to do.

Seriously overrated

The concept is nice but the manga suffers from some huge flaws, the main one being insufferable characters and atmosphere. The dialogs sound like they come from 'the young and the restless'-like cheesy dramas with rich people, and the obvious "twists" of the plot made me seriously facepalm a couple of times.
But really the worst are the characters. dead To take only the two protagonists, MC is angsty and annoying, with oh-so-mysterious hidden depths that you can guess from chapter 1, a sad past I guess with unloving parents, and a serious sister complex. MC's sister is really really annoying, clingy, submissive, obviously here for the fanservice with 'loving and cute pure little-sister' fetish written all over.
Anyway, I guess that manga tries to be Iris Zero and fails. Hard.

This manga is, unfortunately, mediocre. Even though the setup is for the main character to be untalented in magic and therefore will be classic shounen "weak main character becomes stronger manga," it's actually misdirection because the story is actually of the type "main character is hilariously dark, secret, and overpowered" like the manga Kaze no Stigma. Both of these have the same basic plot of "protaganist is weak in his ideal profession but makes up for it with secondary profession that is so overpowered that he can beat anyone, no matter how talented."

This manga also falls into the trap of being hilariously cliched. First, even though the sister is supposed to be super talented in magic and therefore very strong, she is the classic Japanese submissive woman who sole purpose in life is to please her love intereset (aka male protaganist). She currently doesn't have any personality and most likely never will. If the author is talented enough to overcome sterotype and give an explanation of any of this I would be surprised.

All in all, if you like Kaze no Stigma but hated the tsundere love interest and wanted her replaced with brother loving, submissive, and talented woman, then this manga is for you.

@HTL

Obviously, you're probably going through puberty since you can't stand someone having a different opinion than you. Also, if your solution is "read the novel", that means that the manga is shit. Also, if you need to read up to freaking eight volume before you find out about a main love interests worship of the Gary Stu main character, it actually has to be able to sustain someone reading that far, which it doesn't because it sucks.

Those who says its overrated, knows he/she seriously can't comprehend what going on while reading, maybe you wouldn't read one piece or naruto if its in written form rather than drawings. This is much more interesting than looking for one piece,(useless whitebeard that can't be the pirate king since he's weak)

Well, if you have read durara, index and railgun. This should be up in your reading list.
If not and much more of a muscle-head then stick to one piece and narutards(at least he has hinata).

p.s. bleach is awesome(everyone except ichigo) btw.
