I would have liked it to continue but it ended very well

to those that thought the last fight went to quickly . . .what did you really expect?

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Ageha by that point had already defeated the strongest Psi user in the future where his Psi powers were enhanced by the atmosphere + he had the boost from the Nova cells that his dad gave him - in the past where no one is pumped up - he has reached a god like level - this is to me another good reason why the author ended the story here - who is there really left for him to fight? there is no one left on his and even Amamiya's level - and making those bad guys up would have probably killed the story over all - especially since Psyren was a creation of No 7 of the future - once the time line diverged, she would cease to exist really, Real glad they went and saved her in the past/present though -

I think the ending sets it up really well for a possible sequel!

Bleach and Naruto are shit and are still going, psyren lacks a little for a while and is forced to end...

F$ck them all!!! and the super huge list of rushed ended mangas in my complete list!!!

rant off:

Psyren was at times superior to the big 3 and at times only inferior to One piece, but yeah, this one is also forced to end... oh well I loved the history and the characters, it was starting to get a little bleachy with the many characters, but this autor knew how to keep us afraid of one of them dying... damn rushed endings, but nevertheless it was a good manga

I thought so anyway.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Mithra lasted all of 2 pages or something - weak.

Also ended way too happy for my tastes.

Otherwise totally good though.

The one thing I was always looking forward to, which I thought would definetly happen, never happened. Guess the time was missing.
Nevertheless, I do not regret reading this manga. No, I actually very much enjoyed it. If you want action plus shounen plus a tad of romance, go ahead! Read "Psyren" you won't regret it. And for me, I can finish this manga which I've read continually every week after about ch fourty or fifty ^^
It was a fun time, there were times I was really looking forward to the new chapter, but that's over now. Wish there would be a sequel though wink You know, when they are all more grown up and maybe my anticipated but never shown arc will come~~ it was implied, more than just once, but oh well. Nothing you can do about it ^^

Pretty awesome

I very much enjoyed the story. It was wellpaced, easy to understand, and likable. I like Ageha, and the humour is subtle, understated and funny. Also, the romance is well done and believable, and really kind of absolutely adorable. It's a very awwww sort of thing; you just can't help yourself.

However, I do agree with DarkSlushie, who said there were way too many characters and it's impossible to keep track of them. There are and it is. Sometimes a chapter ends with a Great Dramatic Reveal, and I have to go and Google "Psyren character-name" to figure out who they were. It takes a lot of Dramatic out of it. But in general. it's a fantastic series. Everyone is kickass, no one is useless, and no one annoyed me so much I had to put it down. Definitely worth a shot if you're into shounen.

psyren is not your average bleach

I just rant a bit, don't throw your anger on me biggrin. I've just started reading Psyren last week, but I like it very much, same as when I first read Bleach. But as the stories go, I found Bleach so boring and dragging and repetitive, while Psyren has definitely become better and better. Characters are cool, art is awesome, fights are great, and no tear, no unexpressed feelings (wtf to do with that in a fighting shonen?). It should be more popular, unfortunately Bleach and Naruto have had a long way ahead with the massive advertisement. And someone said the publisher is gonna end it soon so that the mangaka has to rush the story. What a shame.

And please don't compare Psyren with other shonen, because all shonen nowadays share some common aspects like that. If you want some original ones, read DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho or Ranma 1/2, or quit reading lol

I like the subtle humour Psyren has. To summarize the beginning, it's basically some kind of "survival game" some unknown entity invented. The inhabitants of this "game" don't know who those strangers said entity sends are or where they come from, but they kill them anyway. As my current fav character Oboro is just awesome and, as long as the translator didn't screw that scene up, he seems to harbour some secret. Gets crazy when he is cold... wishes for destruction power and gets "cure" instead... suddenly hugs whoever he likes (also guys)... freak <3

Oh and the art is somewhat similiar to Bleach... probably the mangaka is in some way connected with Bleach's mangaka... kind of like with Naruto and Satan666.

that this was a pretty interesting read, so i started on it, since kinoko nasu is my favorite author.

this is actually a fun story. it's gripping in its own way but the only thing i think, is that ageha's power is kind of cheap. basically the power he got was literally "mass".

and he can do anything and create that "mass" into anything. it's gay. everybody else is limited in some way but his power is pretty close to limitless, only limited by how imaginative he can be.

soon i be he's gonna start using his psy power to like, make full suits of armor or something and become fakking invincible.

either way, it's fun, and the characters aren't bad either. the art style is reminding me of bleach a lot though. like later on, it totally turns into a recognizable bleach style. i don't even know when it happened cause it doesnt look like that in the beginning, but somewhere down the road the author suddenly turned bleach on us.

It was good... until we had human

The series started so mysteriously, filled with monsters amid a survival game, but then the terror slowly went down as the protagonists tracked down the source. As the human appeared more and more frequently, replacing monsters, I got a feeling like Psyren was losing its own genre, especially the horror and mysterious scene which was the most attractive point of this series T__T

A good story with bad characters.

Psyren is about a boy named Ageha who is roped into a game called Psyren, a battle royale set in a post-apocalyptic world with the very survival of the human race on the line. While it's not the most original idea to date, the story is well paced and fairly involving. The art's not bad either and there are some pretty cool fight scenes thrown in to top it off. In fact, Psyren could have easily been one of my favorite series if not for it's one glaring flaw:

Terrible Character Development.

To start things off, there's the main character, who does nothing to break the typical hero archetype set by the countless shonen manga that came before it. Now this isn't always a bad thing - afterall, if something works, you should stick with it, right? So I'm willing to forgive that much. But a little originality wouldn't hurt.

Next in line is the female protagonist Amamiya, who is introduced by the main character as an "ice queen" (See: Tsundere). She's a rather quiet girl who who struggles with her own personal issues, which are somehow also related to Psyren, and tries hard not to become too close with anyone, for fear she might lose them. But despite this, she possesses a strong will and always tries to keep her friends from coming to harm..at least, that's probably what the author was aiming for. To me, she came off as whiney, rotten and quite frankly mentally unstable. when she's not sitting by herself brooding over the fact she might die soon, she's bossing people around and having psychotic breakdowns. She may be cute (glasses girls are my type) but her personality makes her totally unsexy. But of course, being the only female character related to the plot, it's to no surprise that she's the potential love interest for pretty much every guy in the series. While this is very typical of shonen series and I usually don't have a complaint with it, Amamiya's character is so unappealing that I can't understand what they see in her.

And then there's everyone else. I can't name names nor can I even remember what they look like - that's exactly how uninteresting they are. New characters are brought in in nearly every chapter but are introduced in such a way that makes readers not care who they are before they are killed off a few chapters later. Sometimes, the characters are revealed to have past relationships, such as having gone to the same school together, but these realizations are so random that you'll wonder if the plot would be affected at all if it hadn't happened at all.

The bottom line, it's a good story, despite being somewhat unoriginal. The characters lack good personality traits and the story telling probably could have been handled better. If you're looking for something new and engaging, look somewhere else. But if you just want something fun to read, give it a try. I won't stop you.
