Description
From Viz:
A moving drama that is heartfelt and true, yet in the brilliant hands of manga artist Mitsuru Adachi, delightfully flows with a light and amusing touch. The series centers around a boy named Ko, the family of four sisters who live down the street and the game of baseball. This poignant coming-of-age story will change your perception of what shonen manga can be.

Note: Won the 54th Shogakukan Manga Award for Shounen in 2009.

Too much Adachi

I've read most mangas by Adachi which are translated and I really like his work but I'm just feed up with the same stuff again and again. Would it hurt to do something new, it hasn't to be much, just a tiny bit, even the art hasn't changed the slightest in the last 25 years. Character design, jokes, story... basically always the same. Well only Adachi can do that and still creating a great manga, after all the guy is a genius. But I've reached the point where it is enough, maybe if I read it again when it is finished I will like it more. And of course this manga is a masterpiece, like every (baseball) manga by him but it is like reading a mash between H2 and Touch.

I don't like this manga all that much. Also the fact that I cannot distinguish where is Aoba and where is Koh annoys me to no end. I think it speaks volumes about the style, if one has problems on distinguishing where is male and where is female.

I liked it, a typical Adachi manga. the way he builds up the excitement of each match and the character development of the protagonist or even the team is just amazing..Although adachi works are not the bests out there, they have their own charm, with those simple lines but with big meaning and sort of moving, cute love stories usually between close family friends, and some tragic events. I mean i just love his works. Sure there's a pattern in his works and same with the character figures(sure is simple & familiar) but still, they have their own magic..

...and at the same time so predictable. Mitsuru Adachi remains fun to read, with a humor proper to him. As expected.

The tragic event in the first volume makes this manga special! There is always an element of sadness due to what happened--I am hooked biggrin

The series thus far has had quite a few emotional moments, as to why they are that is hard to define. An every day thing feels as important as it is for the chars in the series. It has all the possibility of turning into Adachi's best one yet, will have to see how it goes along.

Good baseball manga, but it doesn't touch Major imo. Also though this was made 2 years ago, the way he draws people looks quite outdated. Aoba and Koh are hard to distinguish from eachother.

great story that can only get better

The art so simple and warm that you have to love it. I always felt if the mangaka drew a little better, the series would be much better, but this is his style. It has great subtility and geniality to it.

Art put aside, this mangaka is one of the best at story and character development.

if you've read an adachi manga before, you know what to expect. a sports genius (usually baseball), childhood lovers, a dog named punch, a fat friend, romantic rivalry, the show-offy guy who thinks he's the main characters rival but is not, sarcasm and irony, and characters whom look no different from each other. personally, i find the whole concept of all adachi sports manga to be the same, but yet, i can't help but label all of them as masterpieces. and i don't even know the reason!

adachi has no originality, but strangely, his manga has this undescribable charisma to it that just makes you wanna read more of it. its really safe to say that all adachi manga deserves at least an 8, including this golden egg.
