Beware the cliffhangers.

It is pretty tough to make a uniquely dysfunctional character nowadays, especially in manga where every other character is a freak but somehow Keima stands out as one in a class of its own. This series pretty much rides on his messed up way of life and how he refuses to deviate or apologize for it.

The stories have been carried solidly by him for well over a hundred chapters now and they are still going on strong. The story arcs have become longer and longer and with that comes more and more cliffhangers driving more than a few readers into rages and face palm moments. This has not stagnated the story though as a lot of plot development has been built at a steady pace as a result.

In the end the God of games became human. .

This is godlike!!! i cant believe i forgot to make a comment for this. . TWGOK i cant even begin to describe how good it is. . the mangaka is so good at making cliffhangers that makes you want to read more and beg for more. . seriously i recommend this to everyone! read it and be amazed! it will always put a smile on your face. . =)

edit: this was one of the few manga that i really loved. . the characters were lovable, the plot was fairly simple. . Make girls fall in love then make them forget about it. . lol. . at some point it peaked during the goddess arc. . then slowly took a nose dive. . heart of jupiter arc was pointless and incoherent that it made the series fall from grace. . the author built a good foundation of story and characters only to finish it with an unsatisfying and weak ending. . during the last chapters keima lost his character and personality that made him unique as a protagonist. . I would have been okay with an open ending as long as the author could have finish all the loose plot holes. . And from my point of view.. . if keima was truly the god of games, he should have found a way to make everyone happy. . and not just one. .

this series have very high comedic value and moe characters. it is a refreshing take on the harem genre where the main character actually try to capture the girls' heart, not just sitting there and somehow girls fall into his lap. the character design is very cute especially when keima is in his 'god' mode. there is no gratuitous ecchi scene that will reduce the story's value (though i love ecchi). it is light hearted and will put a smile on your face, even with the 'heavier' arc. highly recommended. i think girls will love this simply because keima's conquering technique is just too amusing

the only reason i dont give it a ten is because it's my principle to never give anything full mark.

edit
im crying like a baby. the ending bring me to tears! to TEARS!!!! such a perfect good ending, i can never envision it. my OTP getting realised, im crying for happiness. and i just love the elaborate plot, i can see the mangaka take great care of everything and everything is resolved nicely. i take back my previous statement - this manga will receive the holy number 10.

Dumb.

"Once again, reality proves to be a shitty game" Keima Katsuragi, The World Only God Knows vol.1 pg.69 pnl.3

This phrase resumes the main character's philosophy. he is extremely smart, BUT could be clinically depressed xD
His ideal word, and ideal girls, exists only in gaming, probably by his own glorified notion of what it should be.
this is indeed a shitty world, most of us who can join this site on our idle time are lucky enough to NOT worry about what are we going to eat tomorrow, or with how many people i got to suck his thing to get the food. So we can tend to forget how hard things are for a LOT of people in this wide world.
He decided not to care about this shitty world and shut himself on gaming, but he was forced back to reality by a life or dead deal xD.
The plot has become thicker than I would have ever guessed at the beginning, and I have to tell you that I’m waiting eagerly for a new dose of his world every week.

Pure Skill on 'Conquering' Girls

without any emotional attachment, Keima just go for it and very successful with it. witness the mastery of enamoring any females from the guy who don't even care.

~
but to witness such pure mastery, you must be patient until few arcs have ended. but don't worry, the excitement will continuously escalates. without fail.

I was originally a fan of the series, but in the end it has been continued past where it should have and it now has become pretty terrible.

I'm also disappointed that the main character never really evolved in the end. He seeks a boring life (solo fantasy video games), which he prefers over real life, no matter how thrilling his life actually is.

Let me get this straight. The oh-so-self-righteous Hell Clues condemns the protagonist for valuing his own life over superficial, transient relationships? Yes, cheating sucks. Now please tell me that you wouldn't "cheat" to save your life. "Oh my god! My boyfriend/girlfriend is attempting to shatter my grade school notions of romance with the illicit peck-on-the-lips~ And what's more!? Just to save his/her own life? That self-centered piece of shit!" Honestly, what kind of sanctimonious crap are you preaching...

And no, it isn't a deus ex machina. Ha, the animu nuthugger's word of choice. I suppose Elsie's magical broom is a deus ex machina too for being able to help facilitate the story. It's a viable and necessary part of the story that's been addressed by the cast. Don't nonsensically write it off because of impartiality. Maybe if Keima's dad teleported in on a dinosaur with rocket launchers to save the day I'd agree with you.

The female characters exist as parodies and you're pointing them out as cliche? What a joker. Now that doesn't mean this manga is always original, but point out something that's not so... obvious. Seriously. It's like criticizing a cover album for using other peoples' songs.

Now to the review. The story itself is fairly solid. Occasionally the author introduces "break" chapters where the nothing really happens, which is fine, but most of them haven't been really interesting or funny. The most important part is that the story hasn't created any glaring disparities or inconsistencies (So far). TWOGK is easygoing and a decent read. Which is nice, because a lot of people seem to think that simple entertainment is synonymous with poorly written entertainment. It's a decent example of how to not fail so hard.

I don't think anyone has stopped to think that this manga is basically about a playboy. a playboy presented in such a way that a male audience wouldn't hate is still a playboy. Even if he's the manga type that doesn't have sex with them, he's still going after women he has no intention of dating and getting them to like him. Then a deus ex machina deletes it so he can go to a new one without breaking the girls heart or holding him responsible. BUT HE IS STILL DOING IT.

Whoever said this isn't riddled with cliches is WRONG. This purportedly takes place in the real world(aside from the demons) yet he comes across the cliched girls of gal games. This has cliches, they just stop to point them out. That doesn't magically mean they aren't there.

That aside, it's funny and the plot finds something to do. The character is given a lot of outs with what he does. I'd personally prefer a normal love story but the plot is about cramming down all love story tropes into one manga and having fun with it. And it is fun and entertaining but it's not the most fun I've had with a manga and it's not the funniest being made right now.

It's ridiculous that gal game rules not only apply but that having skills in them translates outside the game. Also some people are saying the protag is different somehow except that he isn't. He's an otaku that's really weak, so he's from that strain of manga protagonist. The only different feature is that he gets good grades. Also that this isn't a romance manga, though it has a few of the features. It's a shounen action(not harem) manga where the action is solving a girls problem so she likes the protag. So maybe they think he's different for a romance manga except this isn't one, and even then, he wouldn't be(completely that is).

Thinking about it, There are plenty of manga that already do that without being romance, nor are they about only girls. Sket Dan and Yanki-kun to megane-chan are two of the best. Helping with problems is good, too bad it has to be done in such a disingenuous way.
