Intriguing

I read up to volume 15 and feel the need to comment. First of all, if someone picks this up without knowing Yumi Tamura's other pretty popular work Basara, this someone will think 7 seeds is unbelievable brilliant. It has it all: lots of interesting, likeable characters, a story full of suspense, even a bit of romance etc. But if you have read Basara than you will find it less brilliant, because lots of characters (and relationships between characters) are completly the same as in Basara. Even the girl you can call somehow the "main protagonist" reminds me too much of Sarasa, not to mention that her boyfriend looks like Shuri and her older comrade is the second Ageha.

That put aside it really IS a great work. I was never able to finish Basara (the most interesting thing was the tragic romance between the main characters and I'm not that much in romance), but 7 seeds is different (well, the romance sucks, it's just way too cheesy). The post apocalyptic setting with the whole survival theme is just incredible thrilling, I envy Yumi Tamura for her amount of ideas, it never gets boring. You want to know what happens next with the characters and more importantly, when and how they will meet, if they will get along, how they will work together etc.

I can recommand this manga to everyone who likes adventurous storys.

A big suprise!

I don't really read shuojo/josei often. I'm having a hard time with the artistic style. But this one was really a suprise. It's exiting and makes you wan't to continue reading. The characters feelings and thoughts are easy to assimilate. And the plot is really interesting, although it's not somthing most of us haven't read before (Lots of manga about the end of world). But what get's me the most is the dark content which shows us humans true nature. It feels real, which makes you concerned in a good way. I think It's both interesting and beneficent to us.

I don't quite get that there are so many people out there who can read Basara in one blow, but so many that are keeping this on hold. I think that from the very first page it was so interesting and amazing how it all kept on.
And about characters then as I've read Basara then I see Hana as Sarasa and Asahiru as Shuri. They both seem reincarnated in this story, but that might be only my opinion.

@sakirol those cannibal rats and others were a great turning point of the whole animal thing. It would ruin the story if there weren't any danger. It wouldn't be realistic as well if there weren't any animal, insect mutation. Just like they said, it's the whole evolution thing going on again.

I know there's people out there that shy away from post-apocalyptic stories but...

The setting of the story tbh irked me at first. I'm not a big fan of post-apocalyptic survival stories. They're intense but tend to drive me away so when I first saw giant carnivorous plants, cannibalistic rats, and mountains of white beetles, I almost put the manga down. (Good thing I didn't!) This manga is different from those horror stories. It has a decent amount of it in it, yes, but 7 Seeds also does an extraordinary job of implementing the shoujo-esque style of romance and relationship development, making it an amazing read. Behold: it's not just monsters chasing after the characters, picking each of them off until it dies! It doesn't spin off into bizarre over-the-top nonsense as the story moves along either. Try it - I know it doesn't look very appealing at first. smile

(P.S. The Winter story is the best.)

(Similar to the way this mangaka wrote Basara, the mangaka somehow connects far, distant people into one web of connections before starting the final story arc. I love that. It feels like an old-fashioned "Let's go on an adventure!!" but with a lot more depth.)

This story is a great one. The obstacles these people face...the plot in general...just wow. It's one of those stories that keep you intrigued the whole time. To me, the start was a bit slow but I kept reading and...I love the rawness about it....I'm glad things turn out how they do... (thus far at least) This is an amazing story...

I can't explain it in words about this one...The author was brilliant. Piecing all this together and connecting everyone to each other is just...wooow.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
When you got to the winter group, it was just so real. I wondered why there were only five and not 7 (8). The struggles they all face is wwaaaah! Amazing. :( Poor people dying and what not.

I read all the comments below me and see everyone think Natsu is a hate character, but they seem didn't realize that she has to be like that or she would destroy the very purpose of having multiple lead characters that is having many perspectives in one setting. And to create a stark contrast with the other lead, who i say is even worth to hate than Natsu, Hana. Seriously, except for Summer A and Mozu, the only person capable keep up with her, Aragami can only do so with
Spoiler (highlight to view)
freaking 15 years soloing the whole land prior to the start of the manga
.For easier understanding, let's use Gundam Seed Destiny's setting (fanbase, to be exact), replace Shinn with Natsu, Summer A team as Coordinator ( or Canard to better symbolize all of them) and Kira by Hana and everything still run perfectly. Of course, a too obvious Mary Sue wouldn't get liked very much so she showed some down moments to get sympathize and a friendlier version of Team Summer A's skillset
Spoiler (highlight to view)
For god's sake, she was personal coached by both Takashi and Kaname while team SA is 7 out of hundreds and her training is after team SA's. Get what its mean ? She was teached almost EVERYTHING Ango and co had to pay with their friends's lives to learn , without any of their traumatic experiences, and still have a god damn normal live with a caring handsome boyfriend. Don't tell me about gun totting either, her boomerang can be just as deadly as a gun and make no noise at all, beside no way they can stuff a gun inside her bag and come up with believable excuse for a civilian possessing firearm
And she is so charismatic that even Autumn's peoples trust her. You can't make more "subtle" Mary Sue than that.
And Natsu should have a break too. Not that i like her but time simply doesn't support her development. Up to vol 13 i estimate she has just awaken for about 2 months at best and 95% the time was together with Arashi (Semimaru for extra weight, who surprisingly a good middle man btw). The setting is perfect for her... to have NO development at all. You can't blame her since she lacked a drive strong enough to force a change all those times.
The story and other characters are all good, they have various personalities and their development eventually come and help us understand them more. The story is solid with careful planning and preparedness.
All in all, a good watch, if you doesn't too allergy with shoujo-ish style and some times sketchy art, and can pass first 3 volumes, the story of other teams and Ryuudou is much more interesting than a shy girl and a hax girl's journey

I really tried. I got to the end of Volume 2 too.
This is the first manga I ever put on hold.
The premise is fine, but maybe I should have skipped to the third volume.
Natsu makes me think that manga isn't the only thing worth living for.
Full panel sketches where 3/4 of the face is constituted by the eyes is not my style.
While her personality leaves a lot of room for development, the author did too good a job at making her a brainless and incapable idiot.

I will pick this manga up again, but I can't stand Natsu's face and hairstyle anymore.

Note: I have reas series with this art style before, an the same type of characters, but in this setting, where it could have been really awesome, I felt sickened.

Here's my advice to anyone who wants to pick up this manga

1) ^^^^^ Read the title mentioned above ^^^^
2) You might not like some of the characters at first, and probably it seems so cliche with all the bad and good guys.. but there's a thing called the 'Character growth'? Yes, that is what the manga is all about. Even the most unlikable character (who you love to see them getting 'killed off' first) will become very LOVABLE as the plot progresses.
3) For a manga that revolves around multiple protagonists and characters, with a romantic subplot in a survivalist manga, it's very underrated and surprisingly realistic in portraying how normal people would react when they're being put into the same situation! ....unlike the sickeningly overrated survival mangas like Highschool of the dead and Eden no Ori

For the first few chapters, I admit that I got bored. But I'm glad I continued reading, for the sheer curiosity.
The story builds up wonderfully, and I like the way that it seems realistic, rather than just out of the blue "OH NOES WE"RE GONNA DIE BUT A FEW OF US WILL MAGICALLY SURVIVE" kind of thing. It actually makes me feel like that was the end of mankind as we knew it, and I got sucked into the story big time.
It's a story packed full of emotions, and, as corny as it sounds, touches my heart. There's not just romance, but friendship too.
In a nutshell, this manga is one of the best sci-fi story(including books) that I have read.
Read it, you definitely won't regret it biggrin

Good... Really good

For the first ten chapters, I was pretty annoyed. While there was some potential for the story, it seemed a little lackluster and not very original, and the characters (namely Natsu and a few others) really irked me.
However, luckily, the story then shifted gears and went on to focus on the survival of the other groups and then it got really interesting, especially with the way that the different groups interacted. It's obvious that the author has put a lot of planning into this story, and the survival groups/events that take place are indeed very realistic and engaging to the readers. She does a good job with going into the action/adventure side of the story, but also in exploring the psychological impact of having to live in a apocalyptic world.
