Still the best...

I've re-read all the hunter x hunter manga within the last year up to its latest releases, just finished all the anime + OVAs, and STILL ache to finish where the OVAs left off by reading it in manga form again.

I understand why people are kind of bothered by the Chimera ant arc. I stopped reading it just when the concept of that arc got introduced because the chapters weren't done yet and it didn't seem like it'd take very well. So when I came back and re-read it all, I discovered that the Chimera ant is actually the best arc in the Hunter X Hunter series yet! Things mature a lot faster for our favorite protagonists.

Don't be afraid to go right to the end of the releases. Sometimes it's better to be both happy and unsatisfied...

Hunter x Hunter's fame

i really don't care if the series is not completed, i never regret reading hunter x hunter. It is one of the best manga created. I don't think anybody have the ability to make a manga about collecting so interesting as hunter x hunter. People seem cant really appreciate hunter x hunter. Those people who compared hunter x hunter with naruto, dbz, or one piece disgusted me, those cheapo mangas are out of league with hunter x hunter.

Why bother threatening that many fans has dropped this series long time ago.Tell me why it still make million sales on volumes. There are many fans out there who talked big, calling hunter x hunter crap and still secretly reading them from the minute they are released, worshipping togashi.

Just give up, just admit that hunter x hunter is the best. Just admit that hunter x hunter's fame will go on forever.

It was so good and all, until the author took forever to finish his hiatus. I just wanted to say, "I'm sorry, but are you still alive? THEN MOVE YOUR A$$ AND GET IT DONE!" I mean, just what the hell is he doing at home? I'm starting to getting furious right now!

This series is brilliant. It is absolutely amazing. And is a very fun read. The ONLY thing stopping it (and I mean the ONLY thing) from being in my top ten is its current state. Namely, being on hiatus for the thousandth time. There are so many things that are still mysteries in this manga, and one of the biggest ones is Chrollo. I hope he gets past this arc and continues the story so that some of the questions can be answered. You should read it. (And if Togashi is sick, I hope he gets well)
Alright, updated as of chapter 319: In the last two chapters that just came out before 19, the story was finally feeling like it was actively moving somewhere. As of 319 I feel like yelling, "Hunter x hunter is back!!" and it is excellent. Togashi wasn't being lazy when he was on hiatus

It's been almost a decade since I started reading HxH and I have never read and reread/watched and rewatched a manga/anime as much as I did with HxH. The main protagonists, Gon and Killua, are both still one of the best well-thought out characters in any shounen story. Although the Chimera arc veered away from the usual flow of the story, I think it's a fresh start on the whole series. It depicts a more mature and often complex storyline but for a slightly good reason--it also touches on many political aspects of the real world. At first it did seem abit boring, but as you begin to see the "end" of this arc (the defeat of the king) you may notice how the circumstances are played out to better contribute to the growth of the protagonists--or atleast that's how I saw it. True, I did not like the fact that there were many, MANY uncanny resemblances to DZ king, supersayan-ish actions, etc I still think HxH is still giving a lot more than the usual shounen. Many of the ants were unique and had interesting powers and I appreciated how Togashi created sidestories for some of the more significant ants.

I like Naruto (despite it's tendency of becoming redundant), One Piece <3 and Bleach but I have never invested so much time in a manga as much as I did with HxH and many a times I still find the "emotional" parts of the story very endearing even if I've seen it 8-9 times.

I do hope you get well soon Togashi-sensei!

Well, HunterxHunter rocked [in the past]. It used to be one of my favorite. Why, such a good manga with a unique, shounenish, exciting plot and lovely art. The early acts are so good. Both the protagonists and antagonists are built well and have special idiosyncrasy. Then it came to that CHIMERA ACT. At first it's good. But slowly and slowly and gradually it got stuck at that act. The plot keeps prolonging and gets awfully boring, and the art has totally lost its soul. There's been a time the art was so bad that I didn't realize it was Togashi's at all.

Hope for a miracle that HunterxHunter will once again retrieve its glory as in the past. I want the four protagonists back, Ryodan back, and chimera act ENDS.

Hunter X Hunter rules!

Recently, I just watched the anime and it ruled!!! The anime is somewhat different from the manga since it has some extra bits! ! Unfortunately, the anime is TOO short- it is only up to Greed Island. I seriously wish there is more of Hunter X Hunter-the characters are so lovable! (=.=. And I am not a pedo. I am the same age as Gon and Killua so it is okay to like them!)
Because of my age, I am sort of freaked out at the Chimera Ant stuff since the storyline is TOO mature now (too much blood and gore?) Actually, after reading more of it, I am not so freaked out. You begin to like the new storyline (sort of). Yet I still really want to arc to progress and finish!
But nevertheless, Hunter X Hunter is still a great read! I am a girl but still, I think this manga is awesome! There is action, adventure and... frienship-which is quite rare nowadays (excluding One Piece, fairy tail etc)
Still, I think this is a great read and definitely worth it! And for all of you guys bad mouthing Togashi's current art and stuff I say:
Screw u guys.
-Sorry since it sounds quite mean, but yeah.
Anyways, it must be hard for a sick mangaka to draw... And the art is still clear and nice! ^.^

Overall, (I believe) Hunter X Hunter is an amazing read!

Edit: it's 2017 now. When I first began reading Hunter x Hunter I was killua and gon's age... Over seven years have passed but I keep returning to this. I've grown so attached to this series, it's been there with me since I was young like an old friend. It's strange to say but following HxH throughout my teens has been a formative experience; it's encouraged me to appreciate adventure, friendship, excitement and even pushed me to examine and appreciate the vastness of world around me. I'm so glad it is off hiatus once again. Kudos to Togashi.

One of the best mangas there is. It starts rather slow and dull but it gets alot more exciting and better.
I think it is nearly as good as One Piece (which in my opinion is shaping up to be the most epic manga ever)

My 1 huge complaint: "The King" looks exactly like Cell from DBZ.

the manga is great, the people who cannot understand that people change over time should not watch it, because obviously, if the character is on his hunt, millions are dying, and a close friend died, HE MUST ACT LIKE THE OPTIMISTIC KID HE WAS BEFORE. If you are going to complain about the chimera ant art, than you have no real taste for rue manga.

My favourite manga for different reasons
by Celianna

Hunter x Hunter is my favourite manga because of one reason.

That reason is that the two main characters grow during the entire manga.

I love Gon and Killua (could care less about the whining Kurapica or the annoying Leorio), and these two characters grow exceptionally much during the entire manga that you won't even recognize them anymore if you compare the first volume with the ant arc.

Gon is your typical goody two shoes that is naive, pretty dumb, but very strong and has a lot of talent (Goku/Naruto anyone?). Killua is the opposite; he is a cold blooded assassin (could care less if he killed someone), very manipulative and very smart (and also very talented).

Now these main characters look very stereotypical, and they're nothing special, because these type of characters can be found in any other manga. However, HxH breaks away from the stereotyping and develops the characters into 3 dimensional people. A lot of people hate the Greed Island arc (they go into a virtual game where they can really die and collect cards), but for me it's the best. Not only do I love the whole concept of the game (well thought out Togashi!), it's also where Gon and Killua changed drastically from their original personalities.

In the Greed Island arc we see how Gon changes from a naive, dumb kid, to someone who HAS to prove himself and has to use his strength to get there AT ALL COSTS (aka; he's a maniac), and he can't do it without Killua either. Killua transformed from a cold, manipulative kid, to a best friend that would do ANYTHING for Gon, literally anything. Gon and Killua have grown on each other so much that it changed them for good; the best friends would die for one another and it has changed their personalities.

No longer do we have the goody two shoes and naive child Goku .. *cough* I mean Gon who believes he can be friends with anyone. Now we have a Gon who would kill anyone without a second thought if they would try and hurt his existing friends (especially Killua). He loses his mind when he is in a state like that. It's such a refreshing turn on a stereotypical character like that. In the latest chapters (around 290) you can really see how scary Gon has become; you won't recognize the nice, naive kid anymore.

Killua's wall has broken down and went from a manipulative, could-care-less-about-the-world kid to a heartwarming person who would help out other people, and he will always stand next to Gon and help him out. He doesn't hide the fact that Gon means everything to him, and will always try and protect Gon (I swear these two are gay sometimes). Usually characters like this would never change so drastically like Killua did, which is why it's such a joy to read about both Killua and Gon.

So because these two characters grow so much during the entire manga, HxH has become my favourite because of Killua and Gon's friendship.

HxH can have the best, most thought-out battles in shounen manga, but for me, it's these two characters that count the most. Interesting battles won't make me keep reading, developing characters will. So if you are also interested how characters can change, this is definitely a manga for you.
