This is actually my favorite series. I think everything just comes together perfectly in this series. Great characters, fights, story, and background.

It even has the shinigami as a mascot which was done perfectly as part of the anime when that came out. I wish the anime went on but it ended at the perfect point to end before the manga so that works out. Hope we catch up to Japan in release soon.

great series, perfectly suited for shounen audiences, save for a little blood. the almost lack of ecchi is refreshing, as the author is able to create an attractive female character without resorting to big-eyed-overly-developed-pedomorphic characters or naked ones. honestly, how many 16 year old girls are h-cup?

Very interesting manga, I personally love the character development. Also, the pace for updates is starting to pick up - currently at 5/6 chapters a month, so it's going by quickly.

Only thing I'm angry at is the lack of relationship development. No one seems to care about each other more/less over the span of 180 chapters, other than perhaps Yoshi feeling differently about his brother. But...that's it.

Story did start out slow. i really thought this was one of those mangas made specifically for teens not older than 20, but it's a good read once you get half way.
dont expect much though. plot can be considered a little generic and character development is a little slow as most shounen. nevertheless, what sets it and gives it it's distinction is the good tale of myth and mystery.

It's definitely has the potential but you really have to struggle through the first chapters it's started slowly but it has to be so just to understand all the characters of the manga. It's really easy to understand in some ways but on the other hand it's complicated The mangaka don't explain everything to the reader you have to understand the motives of them buy your self - for me it's the best in manga.
If you came just to look for some action it's for you but if you came for a good story line and philosophy it's also will fit your tastes.
I recommend it

The reason this manga isn't popular:

The problem this manga has is that it spends allot of time dealing with character development before moving on to the main story. Additionally many of the main characters are rather similar in appearance (thus the need for early character development to establish differentiation). If you can get past the first volume or two the story picks exponentially until it slumps into a rather standard shounen arc. The story seems to be slowly drawing towards an obvious conclusion but it often does something that makes you seriously consider that it might be deeper than that. I think more so than anything what sets it apart is the emotion it's characters are able to convey and get this, characters are actually killed off! ZOMG! Take a hint; Naruto/Bleach.

It's one of this mangas who are made for everyone, normally i don't like mangas where a sidestory follows an other endlessly, without coming to the point. Like detectiv Conen, one Peace... such series are only made for anime (in my opinion). But Kekkaishi is a must read deffenetly! The jokes are in my taste, the art is good and the plot is awsome!!!!

Try to read it, and you will regret that you lived until yet without Kekkaishi!!!

a shounen manga that stays original

Unlike pretty much every other shounen manga out there which is artificially drawn out and made generic by forceful publishers, Kekkaishi keeps it real. Awesome fights, amazing art, calm pacing, and a small but well-developed cast keep this manga sweet. Buy the awesome Viz editions!

I also think that this series is somewhat underrated. I honestly can't think why. The series have potential, with its clear story-telling and good art. Each of the character are being developed, and a lot of the mysteries are nicely woven into the storry. I especially like how there are hints that Tokine has started to grow feelings for Yoshimori. If nothing else, I will read the manga just to know whether they get together in the end.
