I read chapter 10- and got so, so, so angry.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Kou is so sexist! He insults Futaba and blame her saying that if someone assaults her it's because she gave opening? All that because she talked normally with a friend of his, who showed interest in her. *flip tables*

I will give it 2 merely because of the art.

it started great, it was cute and there was a bit of tension.
but the latest part makes me very angry. It's so cliché and so boring that i want to stop reading this story.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
kou starting ignoring yoshi because of his childhood friend. like what the hell is this? i've been to high school and guys never ditched a girl just so they can full time support their childhood friend. it makes me so so so so angry. All the angst and side glances. really? can't the author do better than that? In this type of situation, i usually root for the second love interest but the guy really looks like he can't handle a thing so i can't even sympathize with him.

I've been meaning to express my thoughts on this and after about two years, I think I will.

Ao Haru Ride lead the way to my adoration Sakisaka Io's works. Because of it, I read Strobe Edge because I wanted more of the Sakisaka Io "touch" and reread it and will most absolutely positively reread it again and again and possibly again in the near future. And for my part, I have trouble rereading even my most loved series and anything for that matter because I seem to remember too many details (in the things I read) therefore making rereading boring for me. So, for it to be one of the few things I have actually fully reread, it holds a special place in my heart. (Ahem) I apologize. This isn't a Strobe Edge review so I will continue.

It is true that Ao Haru Ride has clichés but I feel that even though Sakisaka Io utilizes such clichés in her work, I think she pulls it off very well. I think she drives the unoriginal aspects of shoujo manga to a different level that shows that even though it isn't a new flashy idea, even shoujo clichés can be done well--with style.

I adore Ao Haru Ride A LOT. The parts where Futaba and Kou are the main focus. Like in the train scene when Futaba mouths "suki" and when both their heads are next to each others on the table and they catch each other's eyes. It makes my heart ache like few shoujos do. Although, in the more recent chapters, it's not just Kou and Futaba scenes that stir up my heart. Kikuchi-kun and Tanaka-sensei scenes do too. I feel like there's an expansion of sorts. More characters are being focused on, more are radiating an aura that is empowering and overwhelming enough to make your heart ache along with theirs. However, I don't feel that with Kou. I mentioned that Kou and Futaba scenes give a flutter in my heart right? Well, it seems to me that Kou has to be with someone for me to actually feel a similar feeling. Kou keeps getting more and more closed off and out of all the other characters, his' growth is substantially less than everyone else's. Not that I can blame him. He has gone through a lot and he seems dead set on
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
not being reminded of the past.

I get how everyone is just upset at the turn its taken. It has veered off to a strange direction. But I do believe the direction it's heading and the recent development are the buildup to the problem that Kou needs to start facing and fixing. I mean, old Kou wasn't like this before right? Butttt...at the way things are going...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
it's just Kou that needs to start moving forward because it seems everyone else has begun to move. I wonder what Kou is going to do at this point because it's gotten to the point where he denies all the things he wants.

Sometimes, I can't help but feel that when Kou and Futaba's relationship takes a step forward,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
something always pulls them back making them fall two steps short and go back to before. It's almost always Kou that disappoints. Just how many times, for how long--is he going to continue to hurt Futaba? Over and over, he does it again and again. Yet, in spite of this...Futaba still loves him. That has got to take a lot of courage. To love someone to that extent.

I have to confess. I still adore it even with its current aggravating chapters.

I really have to say that I started reading this series since it had its very first few chapters. I really liked the series, I loved the developments between the characters, their friendship, Fubata's love towards Kou, Kou's gentle smile... But what's wrong with those recent chapters? The story becomes cliche and disappointing. Kou used to be a really nice guy and I really liked his relationship with Fubata. Until the short hair girl appeared in the series..
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Seriously, is the mangaka trying to make things complicated so that Kou and Fubata can't get together? I understand Kou is sympathizing with that girl but it doesn't mean he can be such a jerk towards Fubata. He could have discussed the problem and explained the situation to Fubata and they could have known how to deal with it somehow. He didn't have to treat the girl he loves badly because he has to stay with another girl due to various reasons. The story has become so ridiculous and unrealistic. I also feel sorry for Touma. He's actually a good guy, but still has to be in this stupid love triangle and will surely end up getting hurt and rejected.

Still, I will keep reading this series to see if it gets any better. Sighs. It used to have great potentials but the mangaka really ruined it.

I Really Love it (even if shoujo drama isnt my thing)

yes.. i love it... even if i usually dont like too much shoujo drama romance.. coz (in my OWN opinion) they are boring... but there is something in this aoharuride manga that keeps me hooked up...
i kept on passing it quite a lot coz its too shoujo and too dragging (based on what i see while just scanning through it)... But when i finally tried to read it seriously, i was sooooo surprised that I LIKE IT... and then The Girl in me just suddenly woke up!..

..and one thing that i like in the story is that the main girl is described as pretty.. coz i observed that the generic shoujo lead description is always dull and boring then being chosen by the handsome dude... in here, futaba tried to look not attractive so that girls wont get jealous of her... and at least she isnt stupid (most shoujo leads are stupid, sorry my own opinion)...

i also like how the author handled the teacherxstudent love thing.. i hate teacher student relationship... but the author made sure to make the personality of teacher tanaka as a true responsible adult.. the teacher properly rejected the feeling of the student without hurting her.. it was made sure we can see that the student is still a kid who has a lot of things to learn yet, and the teacher is matured enough to help his student to make rational decision...the author really did it well..

and in the latest chapters, they added a new guy,.. im not really complaining coz kikuchi is also a good character to add some spice in the story. though i really love Kou, im slightly also rooting for Kikuchi (sorry kou lol).... soooo... im giving this a high rating bigrazz

It started with SUCH potential!

It started with SUCH potential! I'm sure all the readers would agree that we got hooked to it because of its promising start. But sadly, as the story is progressing now, it leaves much to be desired. The story telling has gotten much worse, the plot is sooo incredibly cliche now, that it's frustrating to read the latest chapters. Unlike strobe edge, this one seems to have forgotten it's own plotline. I mean, how can anyone mess up a story with such incredible characters? It's like all the initial character development's going to waste.
Ugh, I seriously hope Sakisaka Io gets her sh*t together. This is probably her only 'bad' work.

I really like this series, although I wouldn't call it my favorite. The art is fantastic and the characters are great too, except for Kou. I used to ship Kou and Futaba, but now he's just a jerk. He is very frustrating and honestly, he doesn't deserve Futaba. He's always leaving her hanging or rejecting her when all she does is try to help him. I think she is better off with Touma.

10/10 I absolutely love Sakisaka Io's work, this is one of my fave mangas, The story has a good atmosphere, the heroine isn't the weak type but somehow feminine, The main guy mega-hot ^_^ and there's different variety of character to whom you instantly connect to.

the heroine, futaba, is perfect. she's funny and friendly and still stands up for herself, and isn't the generic girly-girl heroine, something which i can really appreciate. the rest of the characters are all really entertaining too, and i love touma - she met him in a really funny way, and he's adorable and kind to her and really likes her.

but kou is the one who bothers me. i feel like he's using futaba, and it's so frustrating that she puts up with it. i get that she likes him, but in the later chapters he's just a terrible person, in my opinion, who thinks very selfishly and isn't honest with himself or others.
