Well, I must say I love the art work and I did enjoy the begining of the series. As some have said, it's very repetitive, a lot of crying, and well, conflict after conflict. It sort of reminds me of those tv hospital dramas where one nothing good can ever happen. literally. the minute there's a step foward, it takes about 4 back. I liked the comical/stupidity and other angles of the heroine but, to be honest, she's too much of a push over. It's disapointing, seems like there's definetely going to be a sorrowful ending. As cowslaves said, read up t o a certain point and imagine a happy ending. :/

So I am now on Volume 18, why do I still feel depressed?? Their relationship has somewhat developed, but then BAM another obstacle. I am sorry but they are making Chae-Gyung go thru so much!!! She has to be publicly humiliated, thrown out of the palace, and then cannot even TALK to the man she was forced to leaveconfused Who the hell would put up with that....I would have already told him what was going on or already left the damn country if she wanted to be a martyr so bad. So basically for those who are reading this manga and have not gone up to this point, please do not wait for any happy ending anytime soon. It just a painful and depressing road still up ahead. I hope I see a light somewhere fast because if the ending is a simple closer with a neat bow i will be seriously pissed!!!!

This is probably one of the better Korean manhwas I've ever read. In my opinion, it's better than the average shoujo manga plot(*cough*Yuu Watase, anyone?*cough)

The political aspect of the story could be a potential turn off to readers who dislike complicated stuff, but I'd say the relationship developing between Shin and Chae-Gyeoung is well worth it.

Sure, there are a few moments when it becomes too... "chibi" grotesque, but mostly, the art's quite good for a Korean artist(it's not as clearcut as that of manga, but it's still pretty in its own right). I don't really think there's a moment when you, as the reader, could point and say, "Yah. I don't think I would do that. That's unrealistic."

The characters are very human and they make lots of mistakes(and by a lot, I mean LOTS). Sometimes it does a get a little side-tracked(with the whole bits about the eunuch and such) and it does get a little irritating, but overall, I'd say the story was mostly enjoyable.

On another note, I'd say watching the drama before reading the manga is probably better. It does a pretty good job of summarizing the plot(but of course it'll have a few different twists not in the manga), and it's a really good prelude to the story.(By which I mean it'll help you to recognize some of the things about to happen when you're reading the manga, but only enough so that not everything becomes something to be expected).

The drama's called Princess Hours in english, but Goong in chinese/korean. (Look it up on wiki-d).

BTW. Here's my last two cents: Agh, I detest Yul. Ugh. All my friends love Yul ever since the drama, but I still worship Shin(and the fan-coupling ShinxChaeGyeoung.)
Yul keeps killing all the good momentsT___T He kills everything.(And ahaha, Shin is so funny. So is CG. She's flipping cute AND scary. which is very wierd.)

Yeah, I'm rambling now because I'm still high off my Goong-rush. I've read all the chaps. up to 95 so far in three days, and it must be seriously affecting my ability to review.

At first I liked it. I read up to 15 volumes of it before I decided it was time to throw my desktop out the window. Honestly, the author should've ended the tale many volumes ago, in fact it's a complete eye sore that it's still "Ongoing". Everything about this is STUPID and not worth the migraines.

First of all, Chae-Gyung is like a dog. All she does is whine and cry... and whine and cry. Why do all the male leads like her anyways? She's a retarded mutt. Every page that she is on, makes my head hurt cause she seems to always be screaming, and she's unforgivingly obnoxious. Uh was she suppose to be a strong female lead? Because clearly she wasn't, she was an annoying waste of space. I think she's bipolar, undiagnosed of course. I think she also lacks a brain and common sense cause if she had one, Goong would've ended volumes ago. One thing I hate about manhwa is the fact that it's all based on a simple misunderstanding.

Then there's Shin... the biggest dick on the planet. Not only that but much like the heroine, he also lacks a brain and common sense. He must be the most complicated metro boy I've ever read about. He's like a woman; he simply PMS' and goes through episodic mood swings. Is there anything impressive about him? He's an arrogant, rude and selfish little ... prick. All he is to Chae-Gyung is a dick.

Yul is a whiny little homewrecker. I thought only girls played such dirty mind games but apparently males do too.. especially this one. Apparently he does not understand the notion of "No". Do guys force their feelings on you? Cause if they did, I would've called it an emotional rape. This boy is a female bitch in a male's body. Do girls find persistance adorable? Cos from my point of view Yul, looks like a pathetic whiny little bitch. Maybe if he grew some balls, I'll like him just a fraction more. Not only that, maybe he needs a punch in the face... cause nothing instills more confidence and common sense than a punch in the face. He's whining about how much his life sucks, when he's solely the reason why it sucks.

I don't see the couple's relationship going anywhere because from what I've read, they lack the fundamental qualities needed to maintain a healthy relationship. So I have to admit that this is unrealistic and frustrating. If the couple actually trusted each other and communicated, many of the pending events WOULD NOT have happened.

This whole manhwa was a soap opera, in fact I believe that' it's worst. Misunderstanding after misunderstanding after another. Their happiness only short-lived, because somewhere along the line, something trivial will mess it up. Shin & Chae-Gyung clearly don't know how to talk to each other, so I don't see this story going anywhere besides another frustrating loop.

I don't recommend this to anybody, please save yourself the migraine and stray far away from this.

I love this manga. Its plot is amazingly well thought-out. The art is spectacular(gets better as series goes on. Although I can't say I like the faces drawn for humour) I have honestly never seen a manga with such dynamic characters. The thought that goes into the writing is astounding. I've never had my emotions drawn-out so as I have while reading the later chapters(manga-wise, it's a new way of thinking.)

It started off somewhat stereotypically. Stupid girl gets made a princess sort of deal, but then the whole manga delves off into unexplored places. The politics introduced in the later chapters are incredebly interesting to follow. (Its still mixed with a bit of comedy but soon becomes quite serious).

The manga isn't about giving the readers what they want, it's about telling a story, which seems to put some people off. People look for the perfect, stereotypical story they are used too, but this branches off.

The biggest problem for me was the crappy art at the start (Author got realllllly carried away with trying to be funny, just turned out bad) But it soon changed, so don't worry.
Something new; A great read biggrin

I quite liked Goong... so far smile... but in response to those who think the main character is stupid........... well let's just say i've seen worse... *cough* love monster *cough*... *rants about how much hiyo is such an idiot*..

but yes. I like the plotline... the underlying concept is kind of cliche; hate-to-love relationship... but the way it's projected... amazing smile

This is my overall most favorite manhwa!! I loved the drama... but in some parts it gets a little draggy, it almost seems as if park so hee is being forced to drag it out... but overall it's great!
