Good overall

This was one of the very few shoujo manga that i've read, probably because i'm a guy, and i have to say that i enjoyed it. It's a funny and very light tale of love.
The premise sounded interesting but i have to say i didn't like the initial assumptions. Like nephilim said it focused too much on clothing and those kinds of things to qualify beauty, forget all the other things, you can judge a person by the clothes. It just made no sense whatsoever.
There are 3 types of characters here: the secondary, the six main characters and the main couple included in those characters, most of them, if not nearly all, are quite forgetful. You just don't connect with them, most of them are extremely dense, and you just don't care about them. The only characters that looked interesting were Haruna, Asaoka and Mami. Mami was actually the best character, calm, clever, and a great friend. Haruna comes second because she's the heroine and the comedy power of the series. I did laugh sometimes because of her. I also didn't like the all beautiful cast, not very realistic.
The art was good and terrible at the same time. The character art was amazing, but i had to endure the plain backgrounds with stars and bubbles every single chapter which was really annoying to no end.
The story was pretty thin but i didn't expect a work of art.
Now don't get me wrong, i did like the story, but it seemed to me like it dragged unnecessarely at times.
If you want a simple story with simple characters, nearly no drama and not much development then this is for you, very lighthearted.

lovely read but a little too long

Its a little too long, its always nice to have a manga that focuses on the later part of relationships, when the guy and the girl are actually an item. However this for me and looking at the reviews for most people it seems once the lead male has been caught and reeled in theres little else for a manga to go without dabbling in drama, and thats what this manga lacks drama it lacks those story arcs which makes your heart hurt and wait constantly for chapters to come out. In this respect it makes the story more believable because in the majority of good strong relationships very little of big importance actually happens. However such relationships to run so smoothly would probably be more suited to an older couple, because these leads are rather young and therefore their own hormones etc would get in the way but that being said its not impossible to have a smooth relationship at such ages. I do like this manga alot but I really enjoyed the first few volumes the most, when there was an actual goal once that goal was reached it kinda dragged along with no real direction or plot so each chapter was just a bit like a comical extra. I think that alot of the side characters could have been explored like I never really understood Yoh's sister and the arc with his friend and Haruna It felt a bit out of character and unbelievable I'd have preferred Harunas plan to set up her two friends to have come about which would have shifted focus, because I felt they were rather well matched but the Manga-ka obviously didn't agree with me. Anyway a good read but I'd advise after the first few volumes (to around about 7) to probably skip to the last one as the middle or second half really has no importance or great change. While it was still ongoing you could take large breaks of it before the next scanlation came out rather well but if you were to read this all in one go I fear you'd become very bored.

Cute until the end...

I actually really liked this manga... that is, until it ended... I felt like at the end the main character, Haruna, kinda reverted back to how she was in the beginning even though half of the series was supposed to be about her finding herself. Not to mention sometimes I felt as though they over exaggerated Haruna's personality a little. And by a little I mean a lot. Although, for the most part the series is pretty good, the ending was more than enough for me to lose interest...

Wow, this is such a good romantic comedy shoujo manga. Haruna (the main protagonist) was so adorably unique that even the most cliche situations became unexpected and funny.

Definitely recommended for shoujo manga fans like me!

why is it so popular?

After 5 failed attempts to read it I just don't get it why is it so popular, honestly I couldn't get through the 3rd volume, I haven't even smiled once... All the protagonists were irritating, so as their ideas of how a beautiful girl should look like. I mean, it seems like the concept of beauty here consists only of clothes and make-up. darling, if you're ugly, you'll remain that no matter what. the beauty is the combination of natural looks, soul and, yeah, wits. somethins, you, my dear Haruna, lack. Catastrophilacally.
The female lead was so stupid I just couldn't stand it (jeez, it's really humiliating! reading most shojo mangas -and especially this one - one can get wrong idea about women! hey, we aren't blockheads!), she had no redeeming qualities. okay, awkwardness and silliness may be cute and funy, but in certain situations and to the certain point.
The guy was plain dull, nothing to like about him, all cliche.
Art is so-so, too light and sketch-like for me.

Dunno, maybe I'm just not into such hollow stories, which leave nothing to think over or maybe it's because I rarely find the popular mangas to my liking... anyways, I give it a 4.

This manga rocked! The romance is sooo sweet and the art is great I can't stand a manga with bad art. Also this manga ends well which is essential for a 10/10 score ^_~ loved every bit of it!
As for the comment beneath me, there is a sequel:

I am boy and i don't really like fluffy romances stories - BUT! This manga is one of best i've ever read, even though it doesn't have much of story it left me a big impression. After i finished reading it, i kept thinking about the manga. The manga wouldn't go off my head, i had to keep thinking about the manga for like 1 week. And after finishing i was desperately looking for similar manga to make myself think about something else. I recommend it, just sad about manga, that there's no sequel

It's a TEN

I admit, I was dissuaded by comments of this story being boring... but it's not! The first part tells of the girl's problems, then the second part (the one that's supposed to be boring) tells of the guy's perspective of things and why Yoh acts the way he does towards Haruna. And the last part shows how love can grow even in a relationship wherein both the guy and the girl have socializing issues.

This story proves that opposites do attract, and more importantly, they stick!

The one thing I liked about this story is the irony of of Yoh falling in love with Haruna when he tells her not to fall in love with him! The progress he's made with her, and he ends up falling for her. bigrazz
