I don't tend to like mangas with superficial things like looks, but omg I love this one. I'm so dying to find out what happens next. It hurts. I hope there is a new release soon. T_T

This manhua is beautifully drawn, and, with the exception of the fourth volume, has a plot that -goes- somewhere. The fourth volume was pretty much just an excuse to make her more serious about her career. Now that all that tediousness is done with, bring on the beautiful clothing, models, and bishilicious main love interest. I am such a sucker for long, silky straight hair on men.

After reading XileDragon 's comment, I feeling like I have to leave this comment...
Skip beat, Cat Street and The One focus on different things: Skip beat focus on the main heroine, and the acting industry; Cat street focus on the main heroine and how she over come her past etc; The One focus more on the romance aspect of it.
It really depends on what you like ...I personally like The One more than skip beat, since I am a huge fan of romance...
As for the art, I wouldn't say it is very very good, but I would say it is properly one of the best when it compares with other Manhua! (oh, just in case you are not aware of it, it is a manhua, so it properly has a very different art style compare with manga!)
As for their personalities, what make you feel thier characters are not distinguishable enough confused I personally wouldn't say the heroine, Lele, has a very distinguishable personality, since her personality is just like one of those typical shoujo heroine(ie. innocent). however, I find other main characters, such as Eros and Angus have a very distinguishable personalities, and there is more depth into the their characters as the story progresses.
Overrall, I do find most of the characters likeable.
Give it a try!

Unexpectedly overrated

This manga is a far cry from other entertainment industry titles like Skip Beat, Glass Mask, Cat Street, and whatnot. Seriously, it is hard for me to even remotely understand why The One has such high ratings.

The concept is good, but the art is average at best, the story unfolds at an unreasonable pace, the characters simply do not have distinguishable personalities, and their interactions with each other are overly superficial.

Seriously, go read some of the other titles out there and then you'll see the contrast immediately.

..good but slightly irritating on the 3 and 4th volume.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Ok.. the manga is potentially good..the first two volumes are very good. Characters..plot-wise, they WERE good.

BUT..as the series progress, the plot gets a bit draggish from Volume 3 onwards. The mangaka seems to add in some unnessary chapters (e.g several incidents that DELAYED her photoshoot in Japan) and in the end, it comes back the SAME PREDICTABLE outcome.

Lele is a very Likable character when she was first introduced. (interesting family background, her energy..her determination to LEARN..her quirkiness..I'm also interested to know about the bonds she has with her family..both the living and her dead parents)

BUT I find the main heroin very irritating as the series progress...she's annoyingly unprofessional+Whiny+Loud+"Playful" and she's NOT FUNNY anymore.

The mangaka attempted to put humour into the interaction between Lele/Angus/Eros BUT there is TOO MUCH exaggerated Facial expressions on every PAGE!!! She's like a completely different person compare to her in the first two volumes!

I was like "Where the H*LL is the seriousness and Epicness of the earlier chapters?! It's all CARTOON-ish NOW!!"
(Remember that Creepy unfunny..annoying..STRANGE old man who works in the palace in Goong manwha?? yea. She's almost like him now.)
Is this a joke?!

EDIT:

Mellylemon is right afterall!!

Just when I've decided to drop the manhua on the fourth volume, I tried to read some of the chapter releases on vol. 5. She does seemed to mature and serious about her career now.

I like how this story is heading to, I might continue reading it if the mangaka doesn't revert Lele back to the way she was on the 3 and 4th volumes.

Fast paced fashion manhua

I interpreted it another way ^_^

She was not enamored to the man in the poster in a "girl-man" way, but for discovering that modeling might not only be an empty superficial thing. Let's say she was utterly fascinated.

At first we all believe that male model is her main drive to become a model too, but after one scene with Eros on the bench I think he just awoke some kind of yearning in her. She hates the fashion world because of what happened to her parents, but at the same time she feels empty inside, not knowing what to do with her life. Actually she always wanted to do what her mother loved I guess...

But I must agree, she can be a bit annoying at times <_<

Not as good as Youth Gone Wild

I picked this up because someone said it was better than Youth Gone Wild, which is saying a lot because YGW rocks! But this can't compare to that. The heroine is only alright, not spectacular. She doesn't stand out too much.

And she doesn't have a real passion for modeling anyway... she just did it because she has a crush on some model she saw in a magazine.
I would have liked it more if she truly loved the profession and wants to prove something to herself by being the best. But that's not it. She sucks compare to the other people. She's just tall and pretty... but she has no real talent...

Eros is also kinda disappointing, too, for some reason. He's just good-looking. People say he's incredible at what he does. So far, haven't seen that. Maybe things will pick up in later volumes. For now, I'm putting this on hold.

Wow. I just read 6 volumes of this manhua, and I have to say that it´s REALLY good!
The characters have development as the story progresses, like for example, Lele becomes stronger and more determined (because of something that will happen to her grandmother, which I can´t tell here), and I like the fact that the story revolves around fate, and sometimes there are kinda unexpected situations!
The art is amazing! Oh, and besides Taiwan, the story is also set in Japan, and later New York (!), because of Lele´s career, it´s very creative isn´t it! And you get to see this world of fashion, and plus the romance is also not very rushed, and as you read the story, well, when I finished reading the 6th volume, it made me realize that all this time they Eros and Lele were meant to be with each other but they still haven´t realized that one is the other´s strength. Well, Lele "unconsciously" relys on him a lot! But she also moved him with her words...
I really am in love with this manhua, and the bishies really remind me of Takumi from Nana! But after some time you get used and they kinda have their own personalities so they´re not that similar, maybe only the face.
