Brilliant and overachieving, Misaki Ayuzawa is the President of the Student Council at Seika High School, formerly a boys' school. Unfortunately, most of the students are still male and stuck in their slovenly habits, so man-hating Misaki really socks it to 'em in an attempt to make the school presentable to attract more female students. But what will she do when the sexiest boy in school finds out that after school, Misaki works in a maid cafe.
Also included in this manga is a short story called Toumei na Sekai in volume one.

I liked the idea and the art (I don't read a manga unless the art is good) however the fact that Usui is "Mr. Perfect" and that Misaki has always to rely on him for help is getting old. Also the charatcers need more development. It's not bad but not good either.
At all the people that are saying that the romance was FAST! Are you blind? After 60 or what chapters I think it was about time Misaki gave in! She was so hard to push over....I can't see your point at all about the so called "fast" romance. Sure its getting a bit slow paced now...kind of using my last patience but yeah.
It started out and it was sooooo pretty. It seemed to have lots of potential and I just wanted more and more of it. But unfortunately, it went downhill really fast. It actually turned out to be just like every other shojo manga out there and began to have every cliche that shojo mangas usually have, but all in one, squished together back-to-back. Romance was way too fast. The guy just sticks to her and "OMG" we're in love.
I felt kind of bad dropping this, but it got way too cliche way too fast, which is odd because I usually love a larger degree of it... Anyways, I didn't like the combination of Usui and whatsherface. They didn't have balance, at all! Though I LOVE how strong Misaki is, she's still weak when it comes to boys and whatnot. She looks strong and independent, but Usui has her hooked. There was too much blushing and not enough development. She's also quite stupid and bad at communicating, though she's always called smart.
TL,DR: Good potential, good art, bad characters, bad plot.
no character development
this manga started off really good and had a lot of potential. today i finished reading the 59th chapter and unfortunately, there has been no character development at all since the first chapter. The main girl is supposedly "strong" even though she failed to show her mental strength in ALL situations. well you could say that she is strong (physically, that is) and she shows it through violence. she is always thinking that she puts pressure on the main lead, but never takes any action to change that. she is also super sexist, she treats the male and female students differently. the manga was supposed to be based around how she manages her life with being both the president and a maid but latest chapters has NOTHING to do with her being a maid. the manga really got off topic. all in all, the main girl is one of the most annoying female leads out there. she doesn't express what she feels, always misunderstanding other people, very oblivious and even though she is supposed to be "smart", her character shows no sign of that. The main male lead is a typical shoujo main character. he is "best" at everything he does, and he always sticks to the female lead without any apparent reason (he started doing it from the first chapter). Their romance is not so much love but more like, i'm sorry to say, lust because it is very rare to see them having a decent conversation with each other without super blushing, pretending and lying (specially the main girl lies all the time). so there is not any development of the romance in the psychological sense. so to wrap it up, if you are reading shoujo mangas for a long time and tired of cliche stupid stories without any good plot, this is not the one for you. if you are a new shoujo reader and still don't mind plotless stories with shoujo type of romance, you will have fun reading this manga. even though a lot of parts are really boring even for a starter! just skip through the boring pages, those don't add to the manga anyways

I really love this manga, but im so slow on reading it since it has a lot of heart stopping scenes that makes me go crazy!! its so good, i like usui's character tease-full and wickedly cool! and the way ayuzawa reacts on that is really cute.. hahaha
I'm a convert.
I'm a guy and tend to ignore shoujo like the plague but this series is seriously good. I must've gotten some of my mother's genes that likes to see a little romance in stories because I'm hooked on this manga. The humour is cute and the two protagonists are adorable. The artwork is really good and not what I expected for a shoujo manga, which just shows my lack of knowledge about the genre. If you haven't picked this series up yet then I strongly recommend you do so.
I don't know what's with all the bad reviews but this manga is like the only shoujo manga that i really look forward to reading. IMO this manga is pretty good and although i didn't really watch the last couple episodes of the anime, i still love this manga nonetheless.
recommended for shoujo-lovers..
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Ok, so we have Misaki, a hardworking tsundere who all of a sudden gets all of the attention from a super-perfect-hot guy? Really, Usui is super perfect. He's hot, he's smart, and he's strong. Of course, he has ~family problems~ just like Kei Takishima. Usui is so unreal its almost ridiculous. And this manga is like Special A, although Special is better. This manga is a bit more enjoyable though, because you really get attached to Usui, and it has funny scenes to go with it. Misaki annoys me so much. To the point where I can't enjoy this manga because of how idiotic she's being. She's smart academically, but can't cook. Cmon. I think she could cook, a BIT cuz what the hell, she's at the top of the grades with the exception of Usui! I really hate how she doesn't open up to Usui 99% of the time. But if she did, well we'd have no story. If she did open up to him, she'd probably another typical shoujo heroine. But the fact Misaki is constantly saved my Usui really pisses me off, because since she's independent she could probably prevent it. So I gotta say, this manga is great for shoujo lovers. The guy's hot, the art is cute, and it's a manga where you'll want to put yourself inside, and be Misaki. When I first watched the anime, I really wanted to be Misaki. CUZ OF USUI D; ughhh even if he's unreal I really like him. It's just that the manga itself is a bit too unrealistic. With Usui, and the whole hinata-childhood friend concept; I mean CHILDHOOD FRIENDS? How more cliche can you get? The fact that Hinata finds Misaki is very unreal. POPULAR MALE LEAD? TSUNDERE? POSSESSIVE LOVER? MAIDS?! idk, but too me, it seems very unreal. What pisses me off the most is how the mangaka leaves some scenes out. At first it's like, OK I wonder what happens after that...Maybe if I read more it will tell me...ahaha. no. Like the time when Usui and Misaki hug? What happens after that? There are many more, where scenes seem to just be left out. Another thing that pisses me off; it seems like Misaki totally forgets that Usui kissed her. I mean, she remembered the stupid hug when looking at him the next day, but she forgets that Usui kissed her?! If i was her, I would remember the kiss everytime I see Usui. Plus, she seems totally casual with him after they kissed like twice, like the time when Hinata and Usui is over at her house. Its like, WHAT THE HELL?! THERE IS SOMETHING ROMANTICALLY HUGE GOING ON BETWEEN YOU TWO, AND YOU'RE JUST SITTING AROUND?! ughh....it pisses me off sorry ;_; I recommend this to all shoujo-lovers, cuz it is enjoyable sometimes. It's kinda sucks you in, and you want to keep reading because it is interesting, and the events go pretty fast. It's not my cup of tea in the morning though, but I gotta give props to Fujiwara Hiro, she's good. For the first manga she's every written, its really great. She really is a great rookie.

Hard to describe.
The overall plot is quite interesting. The main protagonist gives off a strong, stubborn type of character, however, there isn't much character development. The love interest becomes a crowd favorite, although, in my opinion, there isn't that much development in his character, as well as the relationship between the two.
