Description
Shinichi Kudo is a high-school student who, by using observation and deduction, is good at solving mysteries. While investigating one, he is caught by the criminals that he was watching and forced to take an experimental drug. Leaving him for dead, the criminals disappear. Instead of killing him, however, the drug turns Shinichi into a little kid.
To preserve the illusion of his 'disappearance,' Shinichi adopts a new name based on his favorite author (Arthur Conan Doyle) and becomes Conan Edogawa. Ran, his (actually Shinichi's) childhood friend takes this little boy under her wing and brings him to her home.
Conan now lives at a detective agency run by Ran's father, but his mind is as keen as ever and he continues to solve mysteries... always allowing Ran's father to take all the credit.
As far as everyone's concerned, Conan is just a little kid anyway... even to Ran. This is *extremely* frustrating to Conan since nobody will listen to a 'little boy.' Despite this, Conan has a mission... to find the criminals who did this to him and get the antidote to that drug.

great story if a bit slow

I just recently read the entire series in one go. It is an extremely long series but I believe the character personalities make up for it. The plot is amazing the story is sometimes confusing and definitely is a lot of fun and has many twists and turns. The best chapters are the ones with Kaito the Kid and the Black Organization, the only downside to the manga is that the plot develops very slowly and some of the cases begin to get repetitive. Overall though it is still a great series; especially for mystery lovers, but is not for everyone.

I think Conan should have grown up even without an antidote by now...
The single cases are nice (though too overcomplicated to be believable), but the series in whole became boring long ago.
The comedy is way overused, and the mysteries behind the crimes are repetitive.

Funny as hell. It has a bit of everything...but it is getting repeditive.(So I gave up and am just watching movies, ovas, and important episodes)

What I was really enjoying was by the same manga author. "Magic Kaito" was a story about Kaito Kid and him stealing things! I want to read more of that, but I can't find it!!!

Never Ending story?

This serie is great. I liked it at first, and it was one of the first manga books I have read. The plot is good, and it kept me going on reading it, but 10 years after I started reading it and it still hasn't finished, I just stopped.
Its to repetitive and it seems that wherever Conan, Ran or her father goes, its always pops up a new case.
Because it was too boring I started speeding up and skipped most of the parts till I saw episodes with "Black Organization" or something similar.
Hope this manga and anime ends soon ^^,

7 for good plot and good logic. Reason I not give it a 9-10 is because its too repetitive.

Back to the main story please... It's become a boring manga... Not to mention that the case has became a piece of cake... I can guess who's the bad guy from the moment they find the dead body... Or at least 4 pages after that...

He should just grow up again

I only saw a few episodes and I thought that they were, to put it mildly, childish. What intrigues me about this series is that during these 800 chapters Conan didn't hit puberty again, I mean a case takes a few days to solve, and there must be some time between the cases, so even though he became a child again he should grow.

How to sell out - The Manga
Rating: 5.0 / 10.0

I started the anime in the early 00s when i was still a hungry teen. I liked it at first and why not? The arts was nice (but the newer artstyle is also very recommendable), the characters were fun and the cases were a who´s who of famous crime novels. That part is still good and a story was still to be found. I later switched to the manga due to my hatred of filler materiel but times moved on and the series now has 89 in canon volumes, 40+ out of canon volumes and many other spin-offs. There are also yearly movies, OVAs, games and... The cast even unsuccessfully met Lupin twice but i checked out years ago. Opening up a random release now and then didn´t help to get me back either. They are still crying over Cherry´s dead sister, who is the one dead character Most romances are still a bust and the age regression plot will never be resolved it seems. No one aged, graduated or changed in a meaningful way way so the whole manga has been a filler since the release of volume 20 or so. I wonder if any of the recurring cast members can even feel emotions anymore as they live in the House of a Thousand Corpses in regards to the death toll.
The one redeeming feature thus still remains the underappreciated art. Gosho had to come up with thousands of characters over the 22 years. A true marvel but i will admit that he uses the same body frames and face types over and over again. Especially the 4 (?) versions of Shinichi X Ran he has used in his 4 major works are the very same characters in body and personality but that is hardly the worst problem by now. I also noticed how clean cut the overall narrate is. A long running crime drama without teeth makes no sense to me and nothing objectionable happens (none are gay or morally grey for example) past the beheading in the first case but let´s stop. I will come back for the final volume and i won´t be surprised if it resolved nothing past the McGuffin-tastic age reversal arc and if the one dead character i previously mentioned showed up again. I also advice too google who the author married (and soon divorced).
Hint: It´s Conan´s voice actress from Two-Mix. Crazy hm? Everything i said about Conan also applies to it´s brother in arm´s Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo, which is even sexist on top, so deduct one point there.
Read these crime manga instead of dragging Conan along for another 2 decades, as it de-evolved into a money printing machine by now, or stop when you start to get bored: Billy Bat (10/10), Death Note (9,5/10), Master Keaton (8/10), Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (8/10), Monster (10/10) and Yokokuhan (8/10).
