Hikaru Shindo is like any sixth-grader in Japan: a pretty normal schoolboy with a two-tone head of hair and a penchant for antics. One day, he finds an old bloodstained Go board in his grandfather's attic and that's when things get really interesting. Trapped inside the Go board is Fujiwara-no-Sai, the ghost of an ancient Go master who taught the strategically complex board game to the emperor of Japan many centuries ago.

It was a really great anime/manga. Honest. I really liked it. I wish there was more closure to the ending... 
It was a truly well paced manga. Heck, even in the anime Hikaru actually gets taller and less childish... and I didn't even notice this until the end when I re-watched the beginning episodes.

I would have given it a 10 if it weren't for the fact that it ends abruptly and feels incomplete.
Very good manga. Really exciting and all play on it is very cool.
After the 17 isn't so good and the ending sucks, however is a cool manga.

This manga is indeed great. The artwork is commendible and the progress of the story is simply amazing. This is a character driven kind of plot so its not surprising to say that the character development is indeed awesome and very addictive.
Unfortunately, the ending is abrupt, and i am not sure it was intended to end that way. did the mangaka got tired of writing it or something important happened that made her stop? the last line only said Hokuto Cup end, not Hikaru no Go end. what happened madam?
But as a whole this is a great manga indeed! Definitely a must read!

yeah it's not the same after Sai..
it's really hard to talk about this series withouth spoiling anything =[
but it's a good read anyways; it leaves things unexplained.. but alas, we don't always get what we want in life.

The story just abruptly ends when Hikaru is playing go with the evil looking guy!!!
oh well, guess I'll just have to find some other mangas...with good ending. But this manga is still one of the best!

This manga got my attention when people fuss over it too much. I read all the way trough volume 3 until I lost the site to read it ^o^;; The first half really is interesting, until it became more and more boring as it focused on Hikaru too much. I know that because Hikaru is the main character and that is why he is the main center. But i gets pretty annoying watching everybody gets surprised and all when seeing how Hikaru is so incredible at Go. I heard the ending is not satisfying from some of the members and friends, didn't go all the way to the end yet but even if it's bad, i still want to check it out

At first it was cool because Sai was there.
But when Sai disappeared.....the whole manga fell apart. I recommend people reading this manga but only up to the part where Sai disappears.

I am such a huge fan of both the anime and the manga. Totally recommended!
