I just read 2 volumes, and I have to say it's great. Awesome art for a shounen series, great sense of humor, likeable main characters, and what's more, both of them are hot ^^. As for BL fangirl like me, I also feel the slash so I am more than happy with that. It's been some time since I've read such an interesting manga, so I hope it will get better in the next volumes biggrin

Started out alright. But recently it just seems like the current arc will last a year or two more. Also the author is taking too much liberty with English culture and the period in which it's set.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The current arc (at time of comment) involves the game of cricket. I'm from India and Cricket is THE game of the nation. Even though I'm a particularly big fan of the game, I can't simply bear to watch the idiotic things being done. Cricket is not and will never be played like this. It's too much even as a manga. I give up. Guess my patience ran out. It would have been more fun if the main story progressed but alas that is just not happening any time soon.

Despite this it's not really a bad manga. Don't take my comment to seriously. After all you won't notice the problems in the story line if you don't know much about England or Cricket.

I can see people comparing it to Hayate from the description provided here; though, I see some people can't see past "Hayate is in -debt-!! It is totally different because of that." ^_^ It is different, it is dark.
Not to bad so far, I look forward to more chapters.

not exactly shounen-ai, but the artwork is awesome -- eyecandy, has potential, etc. plot-wise, not that interesting.i'm willing to see how this story progresses though.

it's not what you think at first

I write this review for people like me, who judge this manga for its rumors, covers or beginning chapters. At first, I thought this manga is all about the cool, perfect, devilish and hot butler. He is too cool and perfect that makes every fangirl screams (and dies b/c of nosebleed). Well, that's quite cheap, typical and boring. I stopped around chapter 20, disappointed b/c it was like a shoujo manga with one dreamy (dark) guy and lots of flowers. BUT I was wrong. When I continue to read it again, I found out that it was more interesting. Horror, blood, death, tragedy.. it was brilliant. Ciel's sufferings, his personality are really well described. What I hate about this manga is, like everyone else, Elizabeth. (maybe b/c I'm not good with teenager girls). Furthermore, Ciel is exactly like a girl. He only thinks and lives in his own world, he doesn't have the strength like a man. (maybe Sebastian spoiled him too much, I guess smile ) Well, there are many things to say about Ciel's girlish personality, but I'm fine with that b/c there is a good reason. Give this manga a try, enjoy ^_^

I was just introduced to this anime and one reason why it appeals to me is because... its almost EXACTLY like the Count Cain manga series. If this one can be made into an anime, Count Cain should be made one too, in my opinion. I believe that the Count Cain plot (well, so far) is far more intrigueing.

I started reading this manga awhile ago, before it gained its current popularity, and back then, I thought it was a good black comedy that was overlooked by many. It was quirky and fun, a great escapist read. It was easy to accept the blatantly two-dimensional characters for what they were simply for the comedic aspect. The manga wasn't overly serious and oftentimes made fun of itself, which was enjoyable.

However, as it grew in popularity, it started to lose that charm. I'm not one of those people who start to hate something simply because it becomes popular. No, what bothered me was that many people started to take this manga too seriously, and it seems now that the author is doing the same thing. What started merely as a comedy has started to flaunt a more convoluted plot than what the initial premise is capable of. With twelve volumes currently, we have yet to see any significant character development from the protagonist we're supposed to be rooting for. We've been given a few flashbacks of Ciel's clearly traumatic past, and yet we still know next to nothing about what actually happened to him. He is entirely bent on getting revenge, but it's hard for a reader to sympathize with that shaky motive, especially taking into account many of the horrific things we've witnessed him do.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The gruesome end of the circus arc,
for example, gave Ciel a huge amount of character derailment rather than development, as it essentially reinforced all of the negative characteristics he's come to possess. It would be nice every once and awhile to see him as the innocent kid he was before his parents' deaths and not as the cold, calculating, hardly human chess master that he's become. And since the author decided to take the route of a more serious plot, it's even more difficult for me to engage myself in the story simply because cardboard-cutout Sebastian, who arguably worked well in the manga's original flavor, is simply too perfect and rarely has any trouble accomplishing anything BECAUSE he's perfect.

All that aside, this manga really jumped the shark for me pretty early on during the Jack the Ripper arc. Having studied the actual case of Jack the Ripper, I was interested in seeing which one of the suspects was the killer and how they went about disemboweling the victims. As it turns out,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
it wasn't ANY of the suspects but rather the BUTLER of one of the suspects who committed the murders. This character is then revealed to be an eccentric, out-of-era transsexual shinigami (which previously we did not know existed) who promptly attempts to capture Sebastian's heart and succeeds in capturing the hearts of thousands of fangirls who merely think s/he is "flamboyantly gay." Other than the completely inaccurate portrayal of a transsexual individual (of whom I know many in real life), the manga took a turn for the weird and not in a good way. I found myself increasingly nonplussed reading this part and was happy when the transsexual finally went out. I just could not take this character seriously and felt that s/he ruined the setup. As a side note: Sorry to break it to you, Toboso, but England doesn't have shinigami like japan does. If you're going to bring them into the story, at least make them Japanese!

One of the main appeals of this manga is simply the slashiness of it. I don't know when relationships between prepubescent children and adult men became so popular, but it's one of the trademarks of this series, so if you're into hints of that sort of thing, then maybe this manga is for you after all.

I haven't read the most recent chapters because
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
of said transsexual reappearing
, and I'm not sure I'll be able to bear reading this manga anymore. I'll give it a six because the artwork is beautiful and the humor is good, but if you're looking for a deep, compelling dark fantasy with great characters and a beautifully woven plot, try Pandora Hearts, a series to which Kuroshitsuji is often compared but which can't, in reality, hold a candle to.

Kuroshitsuji doesn't really deserve a 10.

Before you all click on "No" for "Did you find this comment useful?", I suggest you keep an open mind than just act in rage when someone disagrees with you.

At first, I thought Sebastian was a huge Gary Stu (oh no she didn't!). His perfectness was what totally threw me off. Why have other characters when you have Sebastian? The the twist on how his powers came to be, oh my goodness!
As for the "darkness" of the story, I find it to have the opposite of the desired effect. Of course the butler has a tragic past! Though my dislike of Sebastian is great, Ciel Phantomhive is an alright character. He is actually the only round character in the manga, in my honest opinion. All others are static or even stock. The dumb and clumsy girl? The perfect butler? Been there, done that.

In my opinion, Kuroshitsuji is an escapist manga created by the manga-ka for nothing more than fanservice and potential yen. The lack of plot is one of them fanservices. Readers don't actually care about what the plot is supposed to be. All they want are pretty artwork and interaction between characters so that they can squee about how cute Ciel/Sebastian/etc. I actually have no idea why this manga should be considered shounen because of the plot (it's more of a shoujo series. I haven't seen any guys mention Kuroshitsuji ever, but all the girls--well, you can catch my drift.) and since we have such gems of comments about the BL hints. Yes, there are "hints" because the manga-ka knows readers want those hints.

Though it might be my cynicism talking, but I highly recommend that readers read something else than Kuroshitsuj if you are interested in the setting. Kuroshitsuji does not fully use its setting as a creative inspiration (there was mention of Jack the Ripper, but so far it's lacking), and uses the setting to cover up detailing. If it was placed in the 20th century, it could have been more interesting. If you're looking for a good Victorian Era series, you should check out Emma (but it doesn't have hot boys boohoo).

Needless to say, read Kuroshitsuji if you want to escape reality to look at "hawt bois" instead. Kuroshitsuji is not a diamond in the rough nor is it memorable.

Sebastian is a friken demon. And all mangas are rather "pointless"

Sebastian is a demon. He's suppose to be the farthest thing from perfection. Sure he accomplishes everything unbelievably well but he's not the protagonist in the story and he's not a human either so he can get away with it. It's only frustrating when the "hero" or the "villain" of the story is really good at everything. The author picked a good character to be "perfect" -->the servant who obeys everything the master says. So if the master makes a mistake, the servant does too, however outstanding his performance.
And yeah Kuroshitsuji is for FUN and it's pointless, but it's a friken manga. Don't tell me people read manga to find the purpose in life. Manga is entertainment. Their whole purpose is to sell. Sure sometimes manga has some in depth stuff but you can't expect any manga to be life changing or shit. Why do you think your parents freak out when they find out you've been reading manga instead of studying?
And about "curry incident", I think there was a bit of a point. We got introduced to the Queen who hadn't really shown up despite the fact that she's the all powerful monarch commanding Ciel to solve this and that and save piles of people. We got to know what she's like and how she acts towards Ciel.
