Really good and not as bad as those that hate it say it is

The story has good development and the character growth is actually pretty plausible contrary to other works where the characters just continually get stronger and more op and are able to get through any thing with brute force, the characters actually have to go learn ways to become stronger. The "pedophilia" aspects are actually untrue.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Rudeus really was 12 and his cousin, 15 when they had sex.
The people who think that are actually idiotic because it's a fantasy world with medieval aspects and the beliefs are that at 15, one becomes an adult. That's like saying that a highschooler with the mental maturity of a 60 year old is perverted for having sex with another highschooler. Although he has the mind of a middle aged man, Rudeus essentially is still whatever his age is when you read it.

One of the few issues I have with the novel though is that the translations are all over the place. There are random chapters later on that aren't translated even though there are translated chapters after said chapters.

All in all it's a good read because it has a good story and good character development.

He is OP and does not really go through any trials to attain them. Then all of a sudden the author plunge him into all sorts of sheet after he attained adulthood, only then did he man up. Interesting story, colourful characters, i do not understand why people will hate on it so though, it is just one of those story things (like the author's special sexual orientation) we have to deal with, but lets not discriminate, it is quite a high level rendition of the fantasy world the author created and lets enjoy the ride,

I Just felt like I had to post this because of the few people who gave a bad review. Not sure if trolls or... confused To the guy who called this novel a "sick pedophile fantasy", this is set in a European medieval fantasy world so... 12 years old or whatever is pretty close already to what's considered an adult age and reproducing.

To the guy who called the mc a spineless character, you have to take in consideration that the mc was bullied in school and as a result, became a hikikomori that literally lasted his entire life. That and he was thrown into a whole different world. We can all say that it's had some traumatic effects.

Sorry if there was any spoilers, but most of this can be inferred from the summary and even at the start of the novel, that is if people actually can read and comprehend.

Hilarious, engaging story

As a light novel, Mushoku Tensei engages the imagination in ways a good manga can (even better than most shounen manga out there).

In an easygoing and often humorous way, the author is able to really bring life into the story line and the characters without relying on overly generic kind of developments or conversations. Instead of the way many fantasies over-emphasize the magical elements, the author's narration is much more realistic, even in totally bizarre situations. You can spot so many little things that are so down to earth.

If you're new to light novels, Mushoku Tensei is a fantastic place to start your addiction!

BITTERsweet Ending

Ignore the user below, he clearly dosnt know what he is talking about. he just represents 1%
Now this novel its really good, it talks about second chances that the protagonist get after dying and reincarnating with all his memories, the story advance forward from when he is a baby to when he becomes an adult. Along the way his character grow stronger day by day along with his powers, you could say that the turning point was when he was taken to the village for the first time. Then the adventure starts!!!. I really recommend it. Its like from being trash to being awesome.

KK. Now the webnovel is finished and it comes to an end the adventures of Rudeus... I would have chosen a different ending... Dude that made me cry all night.

The beginning (1st Volume) is written in a very engaging way, however when you hit the 2nd volume you realise that a main character is a shy, weak and wimpy kid despite his apparently amazing skills.
I am sorry, but the 40yo man, that has been studying magic and swordmanship for years cannot be so pathetic in everyday life. Especially being so afraid of some 9yo girl. Wat?
Or being unable to do anything with his so called "advanced" magic that he has been studying for years.
Tried reading a few volumes afterwards, hoping he will become at least a little bit badass, but nope, same stuttering, insecure, wimpy protagonist with apparently amazing skills.
Whats the point of becoming a great magician if he still remains the same loser he always been?
I hate authors that don't know a simple fact that mastery brings confidence and a person changes accordingly.
Oh, and dont even get me started on his amazing mastery of magic that he never uses for anything substantial.
If you want anything close to realistic story about weak person becoming strong, or people behave in a logical way, or simply things making sense, stay away from this trash.

I would have loved to give it a 10 but...

To be honest there were some parts of the light novel that were excessively useless. His actions at the beginning of the novel were unnecessary and the author really introduces him as pretty much the worst person ever, whereas throughout his reincarnated life, he isn't too bad, and is very relatable. There are also some issues with his limited mindset despite being from a technological/scientific world like ours (he can use weather physics to cast a great spell, but never applies other techniques to his most commonly used spells?), and I find some parts of the story are rushed or are passed through with little detail, but honestly, it is a series I could not stop reading. This story isn't perfect, but it is very captivating, and I would love so much to give it a 10.

If You Can Get Past the Flaws, A Great Read

Amazing story with thoughtfully crafted characters in a well thought out setting.

Can get a bit annoying with the occasional perverted monologues. If only the author cut back on some of the wish-fulfillment on that department, else this would be a perfect novel.

Recommended for those seeking a unique adventure fantasy novel experience.

Contrary from the impression you'd get from the summary

The 30 year old NEET thing is mostly there for very very amusing perspective and commentary during the actual story in which it is a bona fide high-fantasy novel, and a very good one at that.

Also has the most satisfying harem part of any light novel yet, thanks to perverted (at the level any healthy male like) but level-headed/mature/realistic protagonist and the world's setting/culture, it spare you from the usual "high-school" harem "romance" bs antics.

@astral100
Go read some shounen sh- instead (note, I like shoune sh- too since I know what I'm looking for in a genre).

As the answer for your "question", do you even read this? How could he, a 7 year old boy trained under advanced level ineffective teacher, win against a highly aggressive 9 yo "girl" trained even earlier by a sword king? In the first place, why the heck would he attack the girl he's supposed to teach, sure he could flood or send some rock bullet her way but what do you think that would accomplish just for the sake of being "badass"?

Again, go read some shounen sh- instead, preferably the truly sh--y one like FT since lots of shounen incorporate sound logic nowadays and you may found that not "badass" enough too.
