Took a while to get going

The first few volumes were somewhat a bore to plug through, but it picks up at a shocking rating around the middle of volume 3. I wonder if we'll see enough of it to ascertain if it redeems its somewhat mediocre start.

i first read this manga as a guilty pleasure. The random cliches and plot that dealt with the two main characters provided a mediocre story that was interesting during the time i read it. And like always even though its repetitive i kept on reading to find out what would happen. At times like this i thank god that mangas like naruto and bleach although repetitive and irritating dont turn out to be like kurohime. The author "adds" in pointless random storylines and characters most likey because he wanted to milk what ever money he could get at. More than half of the volumes were wasted on 100 page fights that were meaningless too the plot. Im surprised its still running. At least mangas like one piece are long for a reason.

Art to die for

Kurohime is not a masterpiece and it's beginning two volumes were almost horrible. I kept going for one thing...the artwork is phenomenal. This mangaka is like the Japanese Frank Cho..he knows how to draw a sexy woman and I can honestly say that Kurohime as presented is honestly the sexiest woman in manga. No skinny butt with impossibly large breasts..this is a buxom and overtly sexy woman and her attitude matches it. She is typically arrogant probably having heard every come-on in existence. That said, her initial two volumes are re-treads..stories we've seen a million times be it Rosario + Vampire or Ranma 1/2. The gimmick is that she is trapped in a little girls' body and unable to perform effective magic until Kurohime's fan...a young warrior named Zero protects her in such a selfless and love filled way that Himeko's heart is touched thus allowing her to become a powerful witch ... Kurohime's power is too omnipotent with no real logic system unlike the biriliant Naruto but that says---it looks great since the manga-ka can also tell a great action scene. In volume 3 things finally start picking up...an alliance with devils is being proposed which may be more trouble than worth and likewise, we get our glimpse at a god and it's nothing like you would have thought. Very interesting, beautiful art and finally a story worth reading.I don't know if an anime would do this justice...I hate most women as drawn in anime as they have the non-american look of thick women..but still..this is one manga that would inspire a pretty cool anime.

Judging the manga by its own merits...

Great manga. I've no idea about any of the artist's other works, but kurohime by itself has been an interesting read. Generic as it may be, cliched asit may be, it is still interesting, esp kuro hime. Great character, absolutely hilarious.

The manga had an amazing start, and along the way, we get a bunch of hinted mysteries, as they are later uncovered. Wish I knew more mangas like this (people keep saying these are cliched, but ironically, I find it hard to find series like this. The closest I've seen is some... demon queen that's traveling with this hero who's supposed to assassinate her)

Conclusion? Great art, funny, really likeable characters, and whenever I thought the story was gonna get repetitive, the story gets a twist. Loving this.

I love this manga and the characters, the story is pretty good and when kurohime is little is so cute smile
I can't wait to see the next chapter, so the only bad thing is that the release of it is very very slow. I cheer Genesis to go fast with it^^

Vol 1-3 will be very repetitive, kurohime acting bossy and stupid, zero...etc2. But starting volume 4 and so on, the story and action will increase significantly, pretty unexpected.

Yes the climax of each chapter/arc is predictable, as in what many have said before, but I still love the art style and the characters in general seem pretty lively. All the author needs to do is put a bit more twist on things and this series will turn out great.

Ok - update biggrin read up to volume 6 and its been great. It does pick up and gets much more emotional/plot related in the 3-6th volume... >_> though I don't know at this point where the author is taking things (chapter 19 XD)

While it is repetative, for me it's not at a point where that is annoying yet. The art is cute and Kurohimé isn't some stereotypically unorigional female lead. If the plot just keeps repeating then I'll probally be lowering my rating, but I can only hope it's building up to a big contrast or something, we'll see.

"nothing short of a god-like main female lead,"
That's kinda the point of the story, no? ;P

I'm afraid I have to agree with llbloodll on this one - the mangaka obviously has plenty of artistic talent, but badly needs an idea or two. This story is so generic it could have come out of any of a hundred other mangas - uninspired, unoriginal and and repetitive. I suppose it's aimed at the Naruto and DBZ brigade, which means a target audience of around 13-14 years old, but that's no excuse for publishers to keep pumping out this bland stuff. The score I gave is 5 for the artwork, which is really excellent, but I can't give anything higher because of the unoriginal storytelling.

It rocks! It always got to me when I saw the Zero protecting Hime even though she treats him like dirt. I was not very encouraged to read this at first 'cuz of the first to comments really sucked. But I totally recommend it! biggrin
