This manga really got me into shojo, although in fact it's hardly a typical example of the genre, as other reviewers have mentioned. It's just...addicting. Breathtaking. Riveting. It has a fair amount of violence, but none is gratuitous - it all fits with the plot.

I actually really liked the art - it was very unusual to me, and kind of floaty and pretty. Also, I much prefer Tokyo Crazy Paradise to Skip Beat, even if I like that one too. The emotions just run so much deeper in TCP, and the characters are better as well, although they are a bit similar. I kind of wonder why everybody makes such a big deal of Skip Beat, which is a good manga, whereas a lot of people haven't even heard of TCP, which in my opinion is a great manga.

I believe I mentioned emotions already, but I should elaborate on that. This manga will tear your heart out, then put it back carefully so that it can be torn out again later. And I say that in a good way. It has a really raw atmosphere at times that makes you able to feel the characters' pain, and there are a lot of sorrowful parts.

If you don't like violence, this is not for you. In fact, I was a bit surprised at the amount and intensity of violence, since it's shojo. But if you like humour, action, romance, a bit of meaningful tragedy, and real feeling in a manga, look no further than TCP.

It was really good all around. Tsukasa is a really love-able character and Ryuji is just, personally, a unique character that you don't find often. Although the ending sort of seemed to miss something its that fact that the mangaka is always looking into "growth in the future", so you always have that optimism for Ryuji and Tsukasa ^_^. So the age balances (they have plenty of time for future events) everything out. Something I would deffinitely read again. So if your hesitant about how some complain about the ending, I can tell you this, the Mangaka really made the right decision on what he did, otherwise that would be unlike Tsukasa and Ryuji, being that their only 14. Good read, useless comment, and jabbering XD.

Feels like a prelude

That's how I felt while reading the last chapter. I got a very bad aftertaste of unfinished business between the lead characters.
It feles that all of the 19 volumes are the prequel of an amazing love story in a world of battle, as if the two characters will do amazing things when they mature a little (specially Tsukasa who is kinda annoying in the all "I want to stay a boy even if I feel like a girl" thing she got), like I don't know unite the Yakuza of japan, etc...

Well I guess I just wanted to see more girly Tsukasa in the end.

Even so, I am glad to have read this manga, and that it was made before Skip Beat, the art of TCP in the begin is ugly as hell, except for the puppy eyes

Other poster's have commented on the lack of reality re:the yakuza, character's ages, and lack of action/fight scenes.

The yakuza do have principles (a return to morals-I guess) Ryuji conts. to uphold his father's policy of no drugs and I don't have a problem with this since at one time there were strict laws that gangs upheld.

Both Ryuji and Tsukasa act older then their age but depending on the location and time when you are born you too would seem older or younger.Since are current time has girls that are 13 and younger looking like they are 18 I think that R&T fit the violent time period they were born to.

Lastly, this manga starts with a fight scene and has various others continuously through out, that are very violent, bloody and engaging.

This manga is by the same mangaka as Skip Beat so expect sparkling or puppy dog expressions and characters that turn into animals (which I love) there is one scene with a dancing fish that still makes me LOL when I re-read this title. My rating:10/10

My only complaint is regarding the translation.I have not read the current releases that are up to vol.10 but the one at onemanga has pages that are missing dialogue completely or untranslated which is very frustrating to a reader.I REALLY want this to be licensed and an anime would also be great.

This is not the best manga I've read, but it is my favourite.

Tsukasa can grate on my nerves and the fact the Yakuza don't seem to actually do anything Yakuza like. Not to mention the main plot takes a few volumes to really kick in. Nevertheless, it's funny, sweet and emotional. It made me cry a couple of times. I love practically every character, even the ones I initially hated.

It's not for everyone, but if you like it, you won't be able to stop until you reach the end.

At first, I was hesitating to read this manga. Because of its length, I thought it would be boring to read, surprisingly, it became one of my favorite manga after reading it. The action may not be as action packed but the romance and the comedy were wonderful. Each chapters of the manga were filled with comedy with the added spice of deepening romance between Tsukasa and Ryuji. Although, the ending was a happy ending, I would have loved to see more of Tsukasa and Ryuji.

I totally love Tsukasa's character, not only was she strong but she was also cheerful. Every scene with Tsukasa and Ryuji were captivating and humorous.

Tha manga was also filled with lessons about life. For example, there was a scene teaching that suicide is for cowards because "even a monkey can pull that stunt." Asago and Tsukasa's life also teaches that everything happens for a reason. If it weren't for certain events that happen, Tsukasa would probably never have met Ryuji and Asago would have never found happiness.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Also, I enjoyed how the mangaka turned a somewhat annoying character into a better character. Asago was one annoying character but at the end of the manga I was very happy about the way her life turned out. If that event did not happen to her she would have not met the man that would bring her happiness.

TCP is not a bad manga. The romance side of the story and the characters was good but the action parts, not that good. I just felt that the whole yakuza thing just didn't blend well with the story. Didn't really like how the author made main characters 14 years old. That annoyed me after chapter 10 or so, or when main guy smoked.
Wasn't that great but I think what made me want to continue reading this story was because the characters were really interesting and the romance was cute. I think this manga is worth reading when you haven't got any mangas to read. You'll take more interest in it.
