it's classic shoujo sans excess baggage. the female lead has a brain and very human reactions. the pace is slow enough to fully express those reactions without slavish repetition or unnecessary fillers. the male lead isn't arrogant or a jerk. the side characters are almost as interesting as the main pair. every plot point smoothly and neatly leads towards the climax of this wonderfully sweet little drama.

Yeah, the heroine gets a little frustrating at times, but damn, it's cute, isn't it? It's one of my favorite light hearted reads. Plus, even though it has a very optimistic tone, it's a lot more what high school is like than other shoujo mangas are. I think the pace is nice, and I haven't seen a lot of nicely "slow-paced" relationships in a while. A lot of them tend to be filled with a bunch of random events that wear me out and make me exasperated, but this manga gives you hope (:
One of the better shoujo mangas

I like this manga. I seldom read shoujo manga but i think this is one of the better shoujo mangas out there. The characters progress are well thought of. The pacing to me is just fine. Rushing things between Sawako and Kazehaya would have just make the relationship between them hard since Sawako has no experience whatsoever on any relationships, except with her parents.
I also like the fact that it shows the progress of every character. They grow and learn from each other and not everyone of them is very eager to have a boyfriend/girlfriend, which is most common in shoujo manga.
All in all. This is a good manga.

at the beginning, you may think the story progresses slowly, but it gets much better as you read on. you may get annoyed with sawako's naivete, but that's only because of her lack of social experience. kimi ni todoke is a heart-warming series that makes you laugh and puts a smile on your face.
i love sawako in that she's not weak. she stands up for what she believes in and cares deeply for her friends. the supporting cast is not a bunch of cardboard cut-outs, so they actually have personalities and depth, unlike a lot of other shoujo mangas. this manga isn't about who ends up with who, but more about the journey.
i totally recommend the anime as well. it's one of my favorites this season.

The concept of a girl that appears scary or puts people off but is really attractive and sweet under all that is not original by any means for shoujo. However, Kimi no Todoke turns this stereotype on its head by making the main girl actually actively *want* to be different. Not only that, but her leading man is a much happier, caring, refreshing character than you see in shoujo in general. His bright honest air reminds me greatly of Okasu from Peach Girl.
The supporting cast is more unique and well characterized than many others. I especially loved that when presented with the generic shoujo misunderstandings and bullying they handle it completely different than what's expected.
The bad part of the manga--and where it lost a point for me--is that it DOES move slow. Yes, the manga is so well done that it still remains enteraining...but I would like to see the development between the two main characters pick up a bit more. I find it difficult to believe that after the little development they had that it would just all pause for a bit while others worked out their own issues.
But all in all, I really love this manga and I'm glad they turned it into an anime.

A bit refreshing but...I still find it predictable, common, over-the-top with too much drama when there's no need such a huge uproar, not really interesting and its comedy is forced. I won't drop it though, maybe it'll get better...

Seriously.
I cannot understand why a handful of people are voting KnT as a manga worth like 1-2 marks/10.
I mean come on! This manga is seriously one of the best out there. If this manga is to be rated 1-2/10, what about the other typical shoujo mangas? -999999/10 ? Wake up and read this manga seriously! Don't judge the whole manga just because of the first few chapters!
And, to all those haters who "claimed" that this is a rip off of Wallfower, god bless you and your how your brain sees both of the mangas.
For the sake of your stupidity, I shall only say it once, but WALLFLOWER and KIMI NI TODOKE is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!
Unlike Wallflower, kimi ni todoke is a very light hearted read. Slow may the romance development be, but it gives off a very pleasant feeling. Just for your information, I liked wallflower, and I would readily give wallflower a 10/10 rating too.
In other words, Wallflower and KnT is 2 completely different mangas,
and it should not been seen as having the same plot. It's just like apples and bananas. They are different, aren't they?
Btw I'm not saying that you cannot hate the manga. But, if you are those kind of people who judge based on a few chapters, you're wrong on this manga. Just freaking persevere and read on. If you still find it boring after reading past volume 2, then I am speechless.
Anyway, one thing I liked about this manga is the heroine's character. She's not like other shoujo manga girls, whose forte is to cry and win over the guy she likes. She admires him from the start, then soon developed feelings for him without noticing. I also liked how the guy starts acting spoilt when the heroine is with other people. Although the guy isn't a bishounen, but... but.. why is it that he sparkles so much?!
Overall, the plot is very well developed and very new ~ It may be predictable (we all know that the heroine is going to end up with that guy), but it is the process that matters. {Umm seriously, if you say predictable.. then isn't every romance manga predictable?} That aside, the character development for each of the character is great.
Trust me, the 300+ votes for the 10/10 for the manga isn't for show. You have to be willing to sacrifice your time if you want a good read.

Why are some people who reads this just gives it a bad comment just because the romance is slow? The romance is simply slow because the girl can't just go on with her love life when she understand a few. She needs friends first and knowledge, because of these her feelings slowly evolves into the pathway of love. She can't just focus on romance first. If you put yourself in her shoe. It takes time to make friends and when you lack the knowledge of love you cant just keep pursuing for it when you don't even know it. This manga shows what real friendships go through, and how you need to be patient for love. This is a great manga, the plot is great and how the characters slowly evolve.

I agree with steadystrike when he said that this is a blend of Angel Densetsu (minus the fighting) and Wallflower(minus the unprogressing story and characters). Its the exact same thought I had after reading through the first 5 volumes. Despite that this is not the first time that a character was made out of sadako, it blew my mind away. At first, I wasn't expecting much from this because the premise is a lot like in Yama Nade. It only took a few pages before I got hooked. So if you liked any of the two series mentioned above, give it a shot and it probably won't be a miss.
