Description
Sakura-Gari is a Taishou-era romance story, ten years in the making. It centers on 16-year-old Tagami Masataka as he is aiming to find his place in life. While attempting to start prep school as a rounin, he encounters Saiki Souma, the son of a distinguished noble of the Saiki Koushyaku family, and becomes part of the Saiki household.

It seems as though this will be the story of Tagami's life, taking us through both him growing up physically and emotionally.

WOW WOW !!! I love most of Watase Yuu shoujo manga but when I read this one her first yaoi manga I LOVE IT like that in one shot I didn’t even have to wait to read the second chapter, it is one of my favorite yaoi mange ever. It made me feel bad for Masataka and even Souma because they go through so much in life as kids and they are still going through a lot. I can’t wait for the next one, right now I have no patient I want it right now!!!

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Hope, hope for new life, new hesitant friendship all shattered by the love of a person who could only destroy his beloved one, in order not to let him go...
I love this kind of story. This is a perfect example of "tore the butterfly's wings"...

The art is expressive, and very suitable for the atmosphere.
I'm now 6 chapters far into it, but it seems like so much longer...
Started it when Sakura gari had about 3 chapters...
A page turner, with great lust of despair...
It's hard to wait for releases... So much told in such few chapters, and yet it doesn't feel rushed one bit...

The genre in it prime... Drama, so much drama...

The only word that i could thought for the first time is 'wow'. I used to hate watase yuu, like ssoooo much,, with all her whiny type of girl. And when i saw this, i thought it's only me who caught up so much with the story, but when i saw the reviews, so it really as good as I thought.

The story is so realistic and heart-tearing. I never thought i could feel this way for watase yuu's manga, i used to mock the emotional thingy that she made. the way the boy react is so real like real man going to be rape.

worth to read, glad i didn't skip it because of the author, but not recommended for yaoi haters since it's quite,,, you know...

Darker Than...

This is the first of Watase sensei's works that I've read, and I must admit I was sceptical about a shoujo mangaka crossing over to yaoi. Actually, I started reading Sakura Gari by accident because I mixed her name up with Higuri Yuu while searching for more stories like Cantarella/Ludwig II, but Sakura Gari is so compelling, it sucked me in right from the first 5 pages of chapter 1! And oh so dark. Who would have thought a shoujo specialist could create manga like this? All of sensei's limiters have definitely come off for this series.

I must admit, I'm very proud of Watase-sensei for taking this huge leap into the dark (but awesome) side of yaoi! I found it very hard to believe at first, but I'm enjoying this piece of work immensely. Her very first yaoi has plot...and a good one!

The characters are unbelievable and they are drawn with beautiful details, even the background settings are well-drawn! I hope no tracing was involved... Back to the characters. Sure, Masataka doesn't look like your typical Watase bishounen, but that's the beauty of this character. He's simple, but innocent and pure, just like what hollistergirl85 said in her comment. And Souma, well, he's messed up in the head, but it's not his fault. While everyone basically treats him as the next heir or like a(n sex) object, Masataka is the only one who treats him like a person, according to one blogger, who I agree with.

And the story, to me, is sort of like a yaoi equivalent to "Jane Eyre." With dark secrets in the family and how it affects an outsider like Masataka, who knows how this story will end.

I feel like reading another shoujo

I dislike Yuu Watase's works and read this just because it's her first yaoi. It's really good, but a little boring, and too timid comparing to my taste. I hate how they are hesitating! It's alright if they hug, kiss and separate and die, but constant angst with raping without mutual understanding really tests my nerve. That's too typical of Watase, she's a shoujo artist after all.
Another problem: If she managed to draw such a beautiful man as the seme, while the uke's so short and looks (stupidly) manly?

I hate to admit this...

Speaking from one who hates Yuu Watase's work, this is actually...good. I tend to steer clear far away from her works but this caught my interest simply because it is her first blatantly yaoi work. It has a heavy atmosphere, psychologically draining to read and a plot enough to make a person's stomach twist in discomfort. I read the first chapter, decided that I hate it but before I realise it, I have already download the rest of the chapters and read all of it through with morbid fascination akin to watching a coroner doing autopsy on a corpse or ghastly road accident victim. Even as I read the latest fifth chapter (while in the back of my mind rewinding the vow to not do so no matter what almost 4 months ago), the pull of Sakura Gari was so strong that I ended up finishing this chapter as well with a look of pure disgust on my face. It is that good, which is something I hate to admit. While there are other works that go through the same theme (or somewhat like it), the way Yuu Watase did it has much more impact that somehow rubbed me the wrong way. Not many manga can move me with such strong emotion like Sakura Gari. Give it a try. Some might like it and some might hate it with a passion. But in the end, love it or hate it, it will still pull you in like it did with me, no matter what.

I can't believe she is drawing yaoi now. I knew it was going to happen sooner or later since some of her previous works included hints or even not only hints of shonen-ai.
I will give this manga a try since i don't mind yaoi.
