I am starting this new Topic Because I notice that is a lot of Fashion manga and only a few are worthless mangas.

I won't name any fashion manga because it will start a war in this sacred Forum.

But I will name only one worth manga I think everybody here has read "Slam dunk"
why this one
because everybody who has read it agreed that this is a great manga tomorrow, today, yesterday and the next vacation (is when I read again because is too good).

The think is that we have so many great Mangakas who only knows how to draw really well, then this mangaka in some miss of creativity or excess. Tells a safe tale, almost like a teletubis tale going for the safe o making a copy that something already existed, or make a new Fashion product for only sell.

My point is why there are some crappy manga that are so famous while the valuables ones don't. Or why people seams to enjoy it.

The best mangas in my opinion are like good songs it will last forever. Not for the season. Like the songs from Spices Girls (Not hard feelings for the fans of the SG).

Do you know the difference between a good manga and a fashionable one?

Again my english sucks so please forgive me.

First of all, judging by the title of this topic, shouldn't it be in the Adult 18+ category? eek

And then, does the question you're asking have anything to do with the topic title?! eek

A bit confused over here...

Heh, heh, heh. Luisalirio screwed-up rafaelefucho's topic title laugh

I think the topic here is (my guess): Why are some bad mangas so popular in the short run, and what causes certain ones to be remembered far into the future?

or you can figure out the question yourselves, clues!:
Quote from rafaelefucho
"Do you read manga to enjoy manga or just to enjoy yourself with it?"

If anyone please help me to make the right question (My english sucks) and I think it doesn't shows what I want to ask.

The case is this in a period of time some people really love POKEMON but now nobody seams to like it.

Yesterday, today and tomorrow everybody seams to enjoy some mangas, are some mangas just "fashion of the season"??

It's all in good harassment.

So.. Why do we embrace mediocre manga (Naruto, Dragonball)... Well, they are fun to read. But really, what makes a great manga anyway? Regardless, I imagine there isn't much "good" manga because it is a lot easier to write meaningless fluff that appeals to caveman-like instincts, than it is to write intelligent manga (easier to read too, so a single person will buy more).

Otakubaybay can't be called a victim: had the topic really been what it's title suggested, she would have read it anyway. And she does seem quite knowledgeable when it comes to the adult 18+ stuff... biggrin

As for why there isn't much "good" manga, well, I read manga for fun, mostly. When I want something deeper, I will rather go for a good novel, not comics. There's a lot of very good BD published in my country but it just isn't the right format for me.

for me its also the finding of some unknown masterpiece that makes it fun and better to read. has to do with spoilers i guess. the most popular stuff is after all following the trend of fashion and is therefor spoiled by its predecessors. its marketing based indeed.
but i don't really mind. i just ignore the crap and read good stuff. biggrin
and yes, that is for my enjoyment and to pleasure myself. bigrazz

Edited the thread's title with the one suggested by rafaelefucho...
(although I'm still not sure I get what that means...)

----------------------
Before starting to discuss why the good manga are so few shouldn't we define what is a good manga?
Anyway, it's just a matter of probability, everyones tastes is different, so in the end, among the thousand of mangas out there a few will be good enough for you. So it's normal that in the end, in everyones opinion, good mangas are rare, while bad ones are frequent. But on the other hand, I'm certain that what I call a good manga can be called an extremely bad manga by others.

Because "good" is a relative term. And "good" mangas that have deep(er) plots are harder to get into and have more limited appeal than brainless entertainment stuff like Naruto, DBZ, Bleach, etc.

It's not really that Naruto and company are bad mangas, it's just that they don't have much in the way of a deep plot or character development. But this works for them, since when one plot line ends, they can just start on another one without worrying much about coherence or continuity. This allows them to last longer, and allows their appeal to grow more than shorter-lived mangas.

......Okay. I think what you're trying to say is why are some mangas that aren't deep, meaningful etc.. so popular while more noteworthy ones remain unsung.

Well apparently the popular fad mangas just appeal to the majority more but like a pop tune with irritating but catchy rhythm and lyrics. ( you know that song you hate but can't get out of your head) But eventually it'll fade and they might or might not graduate onto bigger better things. bigrazz

"What causes certain good mangas to be so few?" True geniuses are few and far in between themselves, same with the ones who produce manga. Anyone can publish a book but only a hand full will become classical masterpieces.
