Hi guys, I am planning to buy a new laptop this weekend and would like recommendations on which model to get.
I'm looking for a lightweight, thin laptop with at least 4 gb ram and intel processor i7; good for vast multitasking, gaming and media. My budget is around 1,500 dollars.

Originally I planned to get a Samsung Notebook, but a friend told me that it's not so good. I don't have much knowledge in choosing, so any help is appreciated.

I don't want to be a bummer, but it's going to be hard to find a thin, light laptop that's very good at gaming. Better hardware usually means a bulkier build. Not that it's impossible to have a fairly good gaming PC not weigh much, but you may end up paying more than you like.

I don't know much about computers, but I can say this: don't buy a mac. You can't download anything onto it unless you buy another program(forgot what it was called) no.

What are you talking about? You can download things just fine on a mac.I have one and I download stuff all the time on it. If you're talking about torrents well, most computers don't come with built-in torrent downloaders....and there are tons of free downloaders too...

Laptops are not really good for gaming, though. I hear alienware is really good for gaming but I don't know if they have laptops in your budget/specs.

Basic rule, stay away from windows vista/7 in particular. They are a pain in the butt, and I had to go manually change things in mine to stop it from randomly restarting for 'updates' among other things...and those stupid update popups... I think a mac would be a good choice because they don't overheat easily, which happens if you're gaming. plus there's less viruses

I'm not much of a techie and I don't own a laptop myself nor do I play games, but I hope I helped

edit: If you are talking about pc games do not buy a mac, you have to pay extra for the mac version and it's hard to find torrents. I remember I used to run the sims 2 on my mac and it was fine, couldn't tell any difference from my pc running with sims2 so I don't know how bad it is exactly.

like she said, don't buy a mac lol.. that thing is NOT really made for gaming purposes o.O
It will be tough finding a gaming laptop that is thin though...It is probably at 2k+ price tag if there is. GL at finding one though.. xD

I'm afraid I don't know much to your specs sorry. I agree with all said above: avoid the mac if you're gonna be a gamer, windows 7 does suck and the more higher up spec you want the heavier it gets.

However, try this site: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/ Hope it helps.

This info is coming from a former hardcore gamer. smile

I don't know why people are saying Windows 7 is bad? I have had 7 since early release and its amazing. Lots of customization, fast reliable. I guess I can see there being issues if you are trying to run it on an under powered machine. However the range you are looking for is above and beyond good for windows 7.

Now then, I dont recommend Laptops for gaming, but to each there own.

this a really nice one. Large screen, I7 12GB RAM 1tb HDD. should play any game thrown at it.

Want something cheaper? Just search that website.

Also Ibuypower.com is another choice, although they are a bit more expensive.

If you want some help pm me I'll give you any info I can to assist.

I lol'd ... so hard!!

@OP
Honestly though, if your primary purpose is gaming, you probably won't get decent battery life or size unless you're willing to spend a lot of money for boutique models.

Anyways, congrats on the new laptop.

I'm with this guy, ibuypower has some great computers. They also have some great deals for Black Friday, or at least they did last year. I got a ~$1000 gaming computer (not a laptop though) for half the price, and it's great. I know you already made your choice, but I though I'd put that out there.

what's bad about win 7? it's def the better OS we have right now.

I had no trouble installing drivers for DE2-115 cyclone IV altera board for my project, beside I couldn't live without M$ visual studio 10 XD (free copy from MSDNAA, m$ rocks)

I dislike apple because I can't develop anything in their products without paying dearly for their overpriced SDK laugh laugh

back to topic: small light laptop for gaming? maybe you are looking for Razer Blade

17" screen
dual-core CPU Intel Core i7 2640m, 2.8 GHz
8 GB of DDR3 1333 MHz,
320 GB SATA hard drive (7200 RPM)
GeForce video card 555m with 2 GB of GDDR5 (prob you can play BF3 with it)
Dimension 427 x 277 x 22mm (W x D x H)
Weight less than 3.9 kg

but the thing is razer's stuff a bit overpriced dead
