Apparently, congress is holding a meeting about internet censorship and a majority of them are in favor of it.

I don't know too much, but I'm trying to spread the word.

I'm actually in favor of it for the most part. I'd be glad if we could get rid of internet bullying. Something in this world that we do not need.

I signed it for you. I don't want the internet to get restricted like China's. I already know first-hand from this little app (I think it's on Firefox), that shows you how restricted China's internet is.

only thing that bugs me is their streaming clause. Making it a felony to post "unauthorized content" . Seriously musicians get known from doing covers...and now it will be a felony to uploading these covers online?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act

crash course on what's on the bill

*edit* to my knowledge there's is no bullying clause.

Internet Bullying will never go away no matter how many laws or restrictions you put on the people. More restrictions are only going to constrict the good people of the internet [which is by far the majority] from doing the things they want to do.

If you want to stop internet bullying, oppression is the absolute worst way of going about it. Additionally, it is a huge strain on freedom of speech.

Believe it or not, the internet, as it stands now, is actually one of the truest forms of freedom of speech. No government intervention, no anything. We can say what we want, be heard, without any kind of punishment.

Our government is a bit more corrupt than people would like to believe. They don't care about us. From what I can tell, they're doing all they can to gain more power.

Try looking at Occupy Wall Street. People are getting battered for their freedom of speech.

Good point. I also think that in order to combat internet bullying (or bullying in general), we need to teach the bullied how to cope with it. It creates a stronger mindset.

@loosecanon
Much appreciated!

Yeah it's just one of those things isn't it the minority ruining it for everyone else. I say that the internet should be free. Policing the internet is just a way of stopping our freedom. I love the fact that I can say what I like on here without people knowing who I am. I am a diffrent person online to the person on the street.

Internet bullying can come in many diffrent forms and like regular bullying no law will prevent it from happening.

I signed.

If that goes through, pretty much the only thing left on the internet for me would be chatting over IM. >_> I'm sure there's at least one link somewhere on every site I go to that would be considered a violation for whatever reason.

I just don't understand how will they stop internet bullying by blocking some sites....

The are trying to do this because:
It's obvious that most politicians represent the enterprises and not the people, preventing piracy is a good way to raise enterprises earnings.
It's easier to manipulate people if you block their access to news contrary to what you are imposing.
Masking it with >>ending internet bullying<<>> ending "child" access to "offensive"content<< and all kinds of ridiculous things is cowardly.

I would help if I could, but i'm not from the US.

Edit:
Sites like The Pirate Bay can be blocked to americans? If it's possible they will probably do it.

I bet they are are proud... Their financial slaves are finally starting to dance to their tune. I'm sure they're ecstatic.

Also, what is Internet Bullying....? Is it even defined? I have gotten into some pretty heated debates and arguments in online forums and some of the things said can be... Well, rather cruel. But I can't say that Bullying. If you meant he the Bully looks for the Bullied and then continues to harass them where ever they are, then all I can say is.... A law or restriction is not going to stop that. Only the Bullied can stop that. They could change their screen name, email, or just ignore them... Most sites now a days have the option to block certain people from being seen by you and you can usually delete messages/email that you don't want.

How is it hard to ignore someone online? I find it rather easy.

I'm pissed that no one I know seems to be doing anything to counter it. I've been talking to my friends, and they're all like "meh so?"

Why isn't the majority of congress at least considering the negative consequences (more than the benefits, anyway)?

Simple, money. They all take bribes...I mean campaign contributions of millions of dollars from the PAC's and SPAC's that represent the movie/music industry. So who are they going to support? The people giving them money, saying that this bill will save billions of dollars that they claim are lost due to piracy , or the people who voted for them, that will suddenly have their online freedom revoked?

Unfortunately, money wins 9 times out of 10...
