I am from a country where they don't sell manga, people usually have no idea what manga is or that those few "weird cartoons" u can find in tv are called anime... and personally i love the question:"manga? do u mean mango? wth? how can u read fruit? are u making fun of me?" and when i explain:"so... u are reading... comics... ?" (usually when u say comics in my country = comics for children >_>)

so for me the only way would be to purchase them from some english/french speaking(only foreign languages i know) countries and that means... definitely expensive... so i would be able to read what? one volume monthly maybe? *cries*

and i know how impatient i am, waiting for one chapter, so i cannot imagine waiting for whole volumes till they get licensed... ugh...

I probably read the question wrong, since it would be hard to get my manga without the internet. I buy my manga online .

In any case, for some reason, non of the nearby bookstores where i live sell manga. I have to drive a good hour to the nearest barnes and nobles to find manga. Heck, even american comic books are hard to find out in the real world. I haven't found a comic book store around either. 'Course, I haven't exacly been looking, they could be hiding.

Ditto what the person above said: I buy my manga online. I don't fly to Japan just to purchase the raws. Also, no bookstore I'm at ever has the volumes I want anyway.

Otherwise, I chose "Yes", it's impossible, because how would I even know this manga exists to buy it? I've been down the route of buying random manga in a bookstore based on it's blurb, and almost all of those purchases have been mistakes, whereas the internet researched ones (especially ones found via MangaUpdates' search engine) have always been great. Without the internet, I might buy 0.001% of the manga I do now.

I agree with all my heart to what the user i replied to said and I know this feeling fairly well.

If I want to read some Berserk, I have to order it online from Dark Horse, who do not release chapters, only volumes and I'm not sure I want to read 1-2 volumes per year, the rate at which volumes are currently released in Japan... AND they kind of censor everything, from language to images! It's a goddamn seinen, leave it as it is! And yeah, money... Suppose it won't be as bad for me, since I won't need to buy that many volumes in a year.

well, forget about the question, but, Yes, It would be impossible to read manga in my country, in nearby contries, and the whole region without the online manga readers, and I`m from Venezuela, so forget about the idea of some publisher trying to sell manga here, in my country has never been sold manga, and Why is that? Because first arrive the animation than the manga, so a very very few people would buy the manga of a serie,for purposes of collecting, That`s Why!!!. this is not a profitable business, in my country.

As far as I know, the only country in South America where manga is sold is Argentina, and there were a couple of times that the idea of buying the original volumes of my favorite manga was very attractive, even If I had had to travel to Argentina or had to buy them by mail, until I read the list of manga published by the editorial and publisher, and well, the manga of dragon ball had not yet been fully published, at that time the last saga dragon ball, dragon ball gt had been transmitted for the last time two years ago , After repeatedly retransmitting.

So, How do you expect to sell manga in my country to be profitable in these conditions?, and hey There a lot of people in my country who read manga, they keep reading every week, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Kenichi, and a lot more of mangas.

So Without the online manga readers, We`re FUCKED!.

Some people can say: Hey! relax you still have the scanlators, but remenber, first the censorship in the manga loli/Shota (as if that would stop all those rapists and pedophiles on the streets), second they are taking down the Online manga readers!.

What`s next? Taking down the scanlators,one by one, although this will take time, they will do.

Mangaupdates also be prepared because they will go after you, this page is a very important connection between the series and scanlators without this web the misinformation will reign.

you dont need online manga readers. download the manga and a program like CDisplay that can read .rar and .zip files without extracting. i know some people in Brazil (i know you're different countries) that do just that. oh and thanks to the responses i got before i bought a 2TB external HD and am moving all of my manga from my DVDs over. sadly i only have the manga i read if so if i wanted to start reading an older series that has been lost from the internet then i will be out of luck.

I'm from the UAE as well. You'll actually be surprised at how much yaoi manga I've been able to find XD

If only the price on manga was a little lower then I'd be happy.
I'd be even more happy to have the same for price that they have in Japan.
And I still have 200 manga pockets in my house.

Sure there are a few of us that don't have the luxury of getting ahold of manga at all or atleast for a reasonble price.

BUT
This is for 90% of the people on the net reading manga, although the sad part is that probably less 5% of those are going to read this post.
Most people are:
1. Lazy.
Too lazy to get off their chairs and leave their house to buy that manga.
2. They think that everything should be free.
Why should it? Without money being paid for the manga it wouldn't exist.

Oh and there is no such thing as an unlicensed manga. Every manga is licensed in Japan.

One last thing. I must admit that alot of the scanlators do alot better work than some publishers and yes it would be great if the japanese publishers went more for technology and could provide us with manga online, but for a price though.

I said no.

I have local bookstores, all of whom who are also willing to order manga if they don't have it in stock for me, which doesn't cost anything extra. A good library system, also willing to listen to requests to get in more manga since more manga equals more people checking out books which in turn equals larger budget to buy more books in general. The only thing I don't have is a really great selection of used bookstores for when my wallet can't keep up with my current reading list and I go looking for local deals.

Most people do, and so do I, even though it'll never happen...

I live in New Zealand, the only shop I know that sells manga is in the capital which is 5 hours drive away. There's probably one in Auckland but it's practically impossible to locate. There is this NZ manga online shop that I just found "www.animegarden.co.nz" but it only has a couple of the manga series I read. An with my current budget, $20+ a book would seriously screw me up. On the other hand I do love black lagoon...

Well I help a comic store selling manga's at conventions. And there is also the motto "If we can order it you can buy it from us". The only thing is that all mangas are import from US to Europe.
Even the Euro is higher than the Dollar it still cost to get them here. I see allot of people really want to get a new serie but cannot due that they already got a long list. I can afford them, but I feel sorry for the rest.
The only plus point of reading online for me is so I can check the new series that are going to be release in the US and then give advise to the store owner what the story is about and which group of customers are interesting in buying the serie.
