For example, something like Hot Gimmick.

For starters, the heroine was a complete doormat, and the love interest was a real a-hole. I literally had to keep myself from throwing the books across the room, due to their horrible characterizations and the ridiculousness of certain events or situations.

And yet, despite all of that, it had me hooked. Why? Maybe it had to do with the interactions of the characters, or the soap-like plot turns it would occasionally take (for ex: her brother who actually wasn't related to her, but was also in love with her? I was rooting for him tbh, but it's kind of obvious how that turned out sad ). Either way, I still hate the manga to this day, but I will read it, just because it's that addictive.

Mei-chan no Shitsuji is another one of those, so bad it's good, type of manga for me. The art, however, is quite easy on the eyes, and the boys are a treat to look at, so that may be the reason I'm able to tolerate it. biggrin I also enjoy (suggestive) sexual tension, if you get my drift, though that doesn't mean that it necessarily has to be smut or anything. I am asking for shoujo manga after all.

So...anyone have any suggestions?

There have been a couple that I have either been annoyed at by the cleche's, the female characters demeanour, the anti feminist approach taken by the writer, the lack of plot. All sorts of things, hope they help.

Faster Than A Kiss (maybe)

Itazura na Kiss (maybe)

Midnight Secretary (maybe)

Kamisama Hajimemashita (maybe)

Ardour (never managed to read it, too bad or me)

S.L.H (maybe)

Akuma de Sourou (maybe)

Tenshi Ja Nai (maybe)

Now that I have scanned through my lists looking for reading material for you, will you tell me what your signature is from. wink

I feel the same exact way for Hot Gimmick. I was so addicted I kept going to the bookstore to buy the next volume (I didn't want to spend a large sum of money at once, but I did anyways bigrazz). The thing is though their relationship was so twisted; I was rooting for the brother since he was actually one of the few characters I actually liked in the story. I hope to God though that girls don't think having a relationship like that is acceptable in any way sad

Peach Girl totally fits this description.

Akuma na Eros - a girl summons Satan for some reason I forget, and he agrees to do what she wants if she will give him her virginity. This is a howl, and I think it was supposed to be. There is no way you can take this seriously. My favorite "bad" manga.

About Hot Gimmick - I love it, love it, love it, without apologies. IMO it's very well written - the thing is, the characters make bad choices and don't do what you wish they would do. But they always act as the character would. I love the way Ryoki changes, not as much as we want, but in more realistic increments. He will always be a jerk.

I came into this thread wanting to post Hot Gimmick & Peach Girl but I was beaten to the punch, lol. They are perfect examples.

Also, I sometimes feel like that when I read stuff like Gold (FUJITA Kazuko), Red (KOBAYASHI Hiromi), and Silver (FUJITA Kazuko). I can't stop reading unnecessarily overdramatic stuff. I'm hooked.

Itazura na Kiss (maybe)

This is one of my faves in a so good it's good (have reread my DMP volumes way too many times) way, but I get how it can also land in the so bad it's good category too.

My favorite guilty pleasure is Meru Puri, 'cause it's pretty terrible but so utterly adorable (and kinda hilarious). I was so disappointed when Vampire Knight (another guilty pleasure) dropped the MP vibe after the first volume and went into hard core drama mode.

Hapi Mari (and everything else by this author) also falls into the pretty bad but kinda awesome territory, and the art's pretty good.

S.L.H! I can't really elaborate. It's so entertaining.

Kare wa Tomodachi It's a complete trainwreck, but I can't help but love it.If you want extreme angst, this is a perfect one.

100% Perfect Girl! I said it's very soap opera-ish but it's so addicting (so you can argue it's not bad as long as you sell the story). And apparently when I said that, some hardcore fans got offended -_-" hahaha

Hey hey now, Peach Girl shouldn't be in this category bigrazz

Hot Gimmick, hmm, won't get into that discussion since I'm one of the many detractors, but it's pretty much on par with her style once you've read some of her other works. I like her art, but I find that her most of her characters aren't particularly likeable, which immediately puts her in the no read category for me since I'm a characters-first reader.

I second flowinmyboat's Silver recommendation. It's harlequin, predictable, and dramatic, but the execution was there making it a nice guilty pleasure.

Can I add Stepping on Roses as well. To me, it was cliché and whatever, but at the same time very intriguing. I also have a high guilty pleasure of reading Cross and Crime, although it's like BAD morals (Stockholm syndrome type of bad), and not shoujo.

I also agree on Hot Gimmick and 100% Perfect Girl- my guilty reads, but I honestly loved Midnight Secretary, it's not what would call "bad". But I do HATE most of the ones mentioned here like Kamisama one, Kare was Tomodachi, etc.

OH MY GOD. This is my favorite bad manga as well. Nothing I've read since has ever topped it. Every single demon in hell looking like they're part of one big emo boy band kills me every single time.

I still can't decide what the best part of the entire series is though. It's either:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The part where Miyu and Satan start making out in a church and their priest classmate interrupts them, revealing himself to be Michael the Archangel who then proceeds to get into a Sailor Moon-esqe battle with Satan. OR the part where Miyu dies and her soul goes to heaven, so Satan invades heaven so he can take her soul back down to Earth/hell.

I kind of lend towards the first one, just because of the sheer WTF domino chain crammed into about 30 pages where each one is more ridiculous than the last.

It has got to be Desire Climax for me lol. The story line is quite cheesy and a bit gullible but I love it

Heroine Shikkaku is so annoying and intolerable that I really wanted to end it as fast as possible.
