Hello my fellow manga fans! I'm looking for a darker kind of anime, the more tragic and gorey the better! (Not trying to sound like a sadist lol) I like zombies, but I hate zombie loan, those aren't f*****g zombies! I like good characters, character development and plot as well, I'm not just a bloodthirsty lunatic so far I have read;

Elfen lied! (of course that's on this list lol)
Deadman wonderland! (Personaly my fav so far)
I am a hero! (Read all chapters released thus far and I gotta say I LOVE IT!!!)
Doubt (I really like this one even though its a lot like battle royale)
I have also watched:
Highschool of the dead(zombies... fanservice... what's not to like!)
Gantz(tbh not too impressed, sure its dark and gory but there doesn't seem to be much of a plot)
Another(I liked it but overall seems kinda... average... until the last couple episodes of course)
Mirai nikki(I loved this show, once again... kinda like battle royale :/)
Death note (I F*****G LOVED THIS SHOW, ALMOST NO GORE OR ACTION OR TRAGEDY REALLY BUT MINDBLOWING CHARACTER DRAMA KEPT ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT THE WHOLE TIME!)
Higurashi! (I liked how its split into different arcs, I liked the characters and how you find out more about each one of them as the story goes on)
Hell girl season 1(once again, not too impressed, no gore, 6 characters that almost don't develop at all, most of the stories were too whiney for my taste, maybe it was to realistic, its just about people selling their souls. however I did like how the last few episodes turned out, if they can keep up that pace I would gladly give the next seasons a try)
I also watched a few episodes of shikki, 100 stories (requium from the darkness) devil may cry and umineko no naku koro ni. I think that's it, FIRE AWAY!!!

shingeki no kyojin (attack on titan) - has pretty much all u said u wanted, dark/horror/gore/tragedy

I'm kind of confused, are you specifically looking for anime or was that just meaning all anime/manga? because you asked for anime but your list of examples has both.

@psycho-shocker I wasn't thinking quite that dark lol but I have seen the ichi movies and a few episodes of mpd psycho and I really liked them, I had no idea ichi was a manga as well lol
@strixflash & reid1 I heard of both of those but I'm not sure if I could get into them so I figured I would wait a bit and go back to them later

You might find Terra ForMars quite enjoyable.

I know you said you've watched the Gantz anime but i highly suggest you read the manga as it is waay better and an entirely different beast. The main plot actually starts about where the anime left off. (They made an ending specifically for the anime and it wasn't that good imo) the manga is still ongoing.

At first I wanted to suggest Shiki but the story development are slow and the art are uncommon.
And if you want to read Melo Holic, read Hanged Doll and Superior Day first, those are from the same author.

Dawn Tsumetai Te this one has zombies in it. I like how they evolve

Ibitsu -VERY gory and creepy. just, whoa.

Dokuhime - one of my favorite manga. It's so dark, amazing, and the characters are all great! I just love it! if you like it, check out the author's other work too!

Necromancer - it's not really gory, but it can be pretty dark. It's one of my favorites too

I suggest you give God child a chance too. It isn't gory, but it sure is messed up. Keeps you guessing too.

Shingetsutan Tsukihime I've only read a little bit of it, but I'm thinking it fits what you're looking for.

If you like oneshots, Visukiisu no Akai Ningyou was pretty good and messed up.

How in the holy mother of hell has nobody mentioned Vampire Juujikai?
Not much gore but, good god is it dark and tragic

Also, Gachirin ni Kiri Saku is pretty good. Picked it up today and I loved all the currently released chapters.
