i went 2 months w/o watching anything and summer's getting boring so yea. looking for a completed anime. Something like cowboy bebop for example, no dependency on a manga and finishes what it sets out to do. if it does have a manga i want it to be as close as possible, Monster for example. i'm getting tired of watching shows like trigun(bad example) that has an alternate ending and forces you to go find and read the manga.

this might take awhile cuz i've seen my fair share of shows already.

what i've seen: most i can name for the moment i'll add more later.
abenobashi
baccano
boogiepop
blue submarine
big O
cowboy bebop
code geass
denno coil
darker than black
escaflowne
el hazard
elfen lied
ergo proxy
eureka 7
flcl
full metal [insert]
gungrave
gunxsword
gundam wing/g
ghost hunt
heat guy j
honey and clover
igpx
jyu oh sei
kikkaider
kurau
kurenaig
kino's journey
king of bandits
last exile
martian successor nadesico
macross
monster
mushishi
neon genesis
noein
nodame
outlaw star
planetES
paranoia agent
ROD
samurai seven
samurai champloo
strongest desciple kenichi
speed grapher
shura no toki
seikai no monsho(all of em)
serial experiments lain
slayers
tokyo tribe
tengen toppa gurren lagann
texhnolyze
utawarerumono
vandread
welcome to nhk
wolf's rain
witch hunter robin
xxxholic
yu yu hakusho
zegapain
zoids

here's how i'd describe my tastes:
i liked flcl but didn't like excel saga, i liked air but didn't like any other light novel/h-game romantic comedy, i liked ghost hunt but didn't like higurashi, i liked jyu oh sei but hated infinite ryvius, i liked ROD but hated kiddy grade, liked utawarerumono didn't like 12 kingdoms, liked monster and darker than black but didn't like ghost in the shell, liked honey and clover but hated haruhi, liked xxxholic but hated tsubasa chronicles.( i know they're connected), liked gundam wing and mobile suit gundam didnt like 00 or Seed. i liked noir didn't like madlax.

I'm not really into anime, but I maybe gurren lagann or whatever......that's probably one of the worst examples I could give you.....
Samurai champloo was really good, so was mononoke.
These are the only ones I could think of, sorry there so random and probably no where near what you want

Darker than BLACK, perhaps? The manga is a spinoff on it, rather than the other way around, so you can ignore it entirely.

If you want something that feels like Cowboy Bebop, I'd go for Baccano!. It's so all over the place that I'm not certain you'd be satisfied with the ending though.

Since I'm a big mecha fan, I'll give my obligatory recommendations of Gundam 00, Geass, Gurren Lagann, and Evangelion if you haven't already seen them.

Others that might be worth a look that I *think* meet your criteria:
Ghost Hound
Terra e...
Zettai Shounen (this is definitely an acquired taste, no idea if you'll like it)
Gankutsuou

I really have no idea what you have or haven't seen, so I'm just dropping random stuff. Hope one of them helps you, I guess.

It's almost impossible to give advice without having a hint (genre, what you like, what you already saw), so I'll just tell you some anime that don't have manga (or only a bad one) and I like:

Seikai no Monshou and its sequels (sci-fi)
Ginban Kaleidoscope (romance)
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora (romance)
Scrapped Princess (fantasy)
Slayers (fantasy/adventure)
Nadesico (sci-fi)
Boogiepop Phantom (my all time fav)

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Seen it already? watch again. Seen it twice already? Have kids and make them watch it. Your kids seen it already? Have them watch it again, and then have your kids have kids and make your kid's kids watch it. Then have you kid's kids watch it again.

Full Metal Alchemist's anime isn't too bad.

Too lazy to type.... Just go with what the other's have recommended.... most are pretty good.... one recent addition is Kure-nai. You could also try Saikano and Koi Kaze if you've not read the mangas yet.

I second NOEIN, Ghost Hound, Mononoke and Gurren Lagann.

EDIT:
I forgot to mention Texhnolyze.... it's one of those "love or hate" type of anime.... but I think it's awesome.

Samurai X (short, but I like it). Then if you want then you can hit up Rurouni Kenshin (never read the manga so iunno the relative comparisons).
