man-gah
The "whitenized" way kind of annoys me. =/ Maybe it's just because the people in RL who I hear say it that way are annoying.

Quote from BaeSooky Quote from pokeslob this thread is wrong, the japanese way to pronounce it is ma (mah) n (n) ga (gah)
there is no "o" in manga, nor is pronounced MAN (as in the gender) ga, or MAINga Lol, so glad someone pointed this out. O_O;; I was reading through the earlier posts in this thread and for the most part everyone stated they pronounced it the "right way": man (as in gender) ga...which is wrong. Was starting to doubt my pronunciation after all these years...XDD This.
Just... say it how they do in anime. o.o Problem fixed!

I pronounce it the way a german does - which incidentally is the right way! Pretty comfortable.

It is pronounced the "man" (gender) way, but you have to say it like you're Jamaican.

theres nothing wrong with the thread.. like the thread title say how to pronounce 漫画 [まんが]... not how to write it down he/she gave use 3 option the the 1st pronunciation is man (the male gender) + ga the 2nd pronunciation is mon (just like when saying mom but with an 'n' at the end) + ga the 3rd pronunciation is... other.
like i said before, for me it's mangga (in indonesian language) that is also mean mango in english
ま = ma (well i guess like many other here say... for english language "a" in this "ma" is sounds like a in "ah") ん = n(g) if i'm not mistaken there a silence 'g' on it or something like that が = ga まんが = mangga (in indonesian language).
manga (jp) = mangga (ina) = mango (en)... jk
in any case the right way to pronounce it is just like the one in here (just search for manga then click on the blue 'play' button)

The Japanese way, or the actual correct way. I know that Japan butchers the crap out of English but we don't need to do the same...
Though America does it with a few words too, but if you can help it... don't.

Quote from shaggievara I never talk about manga, so it is rarely in my conversation ever, but mentally, I say it like "mango" with an a. And I don't give a flying shit who criticizes me for it. That's how I say it, too. It sounds better to me.

Quote from sweetnsour321 mahn and gah so mahn-gah how is it really pronouced? whats the english and japanese way to say it? You don't need to think about how it's pronounced as English words, you can tell it from the way it's written (since it's pronounced as it's written.
If if you take away two of the last letters from an English word with seven letters, it might be pronounced differently than before until the second last letter.
Here's an example from the sidebar: cate is pronounced differently than cate in catego and go is pronounced differently than go in categories (a bad example, and perhaps it's even wrong—English isn't on of my strongest languages). In Japanese you pronounce cate, or kate always the same way no matter how many more letters there comes before or after it. That's true for most languages (if you ignore some small exceptions).
Also, mango with an a is right (unless I'm mistaken how you say mango with an a).

I'm surprised so many people say it the "mango" way. Well, luckily I don't have to hear any of you talk.

Well, my native language is spanish and spanish has almost all the sounds as the japanese has, so the way I pronounce "manga or マンガ" is the same as it is writen
