ZERO all the way. I know how everyone says hes all emo and that, but he's lost everything to the vampires
Spoiler (highlight to view)
(his family, his humanity, yuuki...)
i couldn't blame him for being a vampire-hater.
And i do think Zero loves yuuki. He just doesn't think he has the right to...or something like that. Kaname's too... "perfect" for my tastes. Plus, he just keeps trying to be the good guy, which i seriously don't buy.
Considering all the twisted things happening in the story lately, I still have that feeling Yuuki will snap to her senses eventually and realize how much she loves Zero. eyes

Kaname... perfect?
What story are you reading?
Here's what I see:

Kaname's well aware of what he is/was and how jaded he's become to "life" in general. He was tired of it all a long time ago, and he's tired of it again now that he's woken up. Nothing changed in all that time as far as society goes. Having been around as long as he has and having seen all the garbage that played out over millenia, he's exceptionally jaded. He's trying to live again (vicariously) through Yuuki's eyes and perceptions, because his own perceptions are so clouded over by what he's seen, known, and done.

The only thing that keeps him from ripping vampire society apart and starting over is Yuuki's innocence/purity (which maybe he's hoping will remove, or at least subside, some of the darkness from his own heart) and what he managed to accomplish at Cross Academy (as far as changing the opinions/behaviours of the younger generation of vampires).

As for him trying to be the "good guy" all the time, he's doing everything he can to keep Yuuki from seeing that side of him. He's doing it as a measure to protect Yuuki's innocence, and maybe hoping that he'll be able to change some in the process, though I don't think he can.

Kaname is as completely emo as Zero is. He just doesn't wear it on his sleeve as readily. What I wonder about is the time when Yuuki will come to realize that Kaname isn't the guy that he shows her he is, and will she understand.

I think this is a really good reading of Kaname's character. From what we've seen, he certainly could be interpreted in this way--there's enough hints that he has a darker side that makes it seem probable that he's trying to repress it, certainly around Yuuki.

On the other hand, there is enough evidence to support the contrary, that he's perfect boyfriend material. In the fanbook and in his scenes with Yuuki, he always seems single-mindedly devoted to her. He also has plenty of loyal lackies who are only too happy to do his bidding and never, ever question his motives (Ruka, Aidou, Takuma Ichijou, etc.) All of this--devoted fanboys/fangirls and worshipping his love interest--is shoujo manga code for "perfect boyfriend." In most shoujos, the girl ends up with the popular guy that everyone else idolizes and swears is perfect--that's Kaname. Additionally, the guy always has to prove himself by wanting the girl above all other things (other girls, his reputation, etc.)--that's also Kaname.

So it's hard to say which he really is--troubled vampire or perfect boyfriend because we never, ever get to see what he's really thinking. As I've said before, this is a large part of why I don't care for him because he's such an undeveloped character. It shouldn't be possible to have to perfectly valid but conflicting interpretations of his character, but we do. If we actually knew what he was thinking, then we'd know if he was a nice vampire the way he acts around Yuuki, or a not-so-nice vampire, the way we occasionally get glimpses of.

I love both Kaname and Zero. I can't hate either of them..... (although I've read only a few chapters of it)

I'd have to agree with Brid; that is a good reading on Kaname despite the little access we get into his brain. But I still can't bring myself to like Kaname. There's just something about him I can't like, though I just can't put my finger on it.

Kaname does scream perfect...okay, well, maybe not exactly perfect, he has his issues too, I guess, but pretty darn close. He's got the looks, the authority, the power, the girl (Yuuki), so on and so forth.

Kaname's gotta stop pretending to be a "gentle" vampire, and just let Yuuki see him for what he actually is. I think a huge part of the reason he loves Yuuki is because
Spoiler (highlight to view)
he's supposed to continue the bloodline with her,
which is also why he tries so hard to do whatever possible to avoid her disliking him.

Hrm. I don't think I agree with that thought, but I'm not sure I can explain why. I do agree that it's likely in the back of his mind, but I think that his care for Yuuki stems more from the fact that she has been his gauge of the world as he's wanted it to be (more carefree than current politics will allow), and he wants to protect that as much as anything else. Basically, saving himself by saving her. (I can completely see him being that self-serving, but wanting to hide that.)

Spoiler (highlight to view)
This is all totally speculation at this point. Given as jaded as I believe him to be, I'm not sure that caring about the bloodline would be enough to make him care about the person. Although I do think it's a possibility that his care for her is based on remnants of feelings left over from the days before her memories were erased.

We don't know whether the boy was taken over by Kaname's presence before or after Yuuki was born (at least I don't think we do), nor how much time elapsed between when the boy was taken over by Kaname and when Yuuki's memories were erased, nor how much Kaname remembered of his own past immediately upon "awakening." All of those things could be factors in what he feels toward her (based on my speculations, that is).

I just don't get the feeling that he'd mainly care about her simply for the bloodline aspect. But, I admit that I don't know how important they consider maintaining the bloodline(s). I think partially I don't like the idea because that means Kaname is a LOT more callous than I'm giving him credit for. If he's keeping her to use her for that, I'd be annoyed greatly.

I think he's dark, but not in that way.

Well, that's just the way I see things. I mean, I do think Kaname is somewhat touched by Yuuki's kindness, but not to such an extent.
Yeah, I guess knowing when Kaname enters Yuuki's life would give us a clearer picture to the depth of his feelings for her, since I don't think we're ever going to get a sneak peak into Kaname's mind.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Well, I'm not sure how important they regard the bloodline, either, but I'm guessing it's a priority, especially since it's not just any bloodline we're talking about here. Yuuki's parents had to marry their sibling in order continue the bloodline, and I believe that was the very same reason Kaname was brought back in the first place (from what I remember). And the Kuran was one of, if not the most respected and highly regarded purebloods out there.

But then again, it's just the way I see it.

And Zero takes the lead..... I voted for Zero. I love Kaname-sempai as well, but Zero is just really.....sad..... I dunno, I just like him a lot. I have not read the last few chapters, though, so I cannot say which Yuki-chan is going to end up with.

Lol. I used to bash my friends because they liked Zero, but I understand them now. I like him more than Kaname, and way more than the annoying Yuki, she doesn't deserve Zero. >__<;

i really really loved kaname right from the beginning

loveD i said. because recently i've taken a liking to zero n i feel so guilty for converting. i mean, i love both of them now but i still don't know which one i like more. kaname's so... cool and all-powerful and zero's so.... cool.
the main difference i see is just that kaname's more of the elegant, strong bloodline and calm one whereas zero is more badass, action-ish just.... cool type.
arrrrgh i can't choose!

oh and yeh i don't like yuki she doesn't deserve any of them i reckon

I didn't read the manga but I'm fresh from finishing the anime and must talk about it. I have to say I've never ever sympathized with the third leg of a love triangle like I have with Zero. Sucks majorly to be that guy.

I used to like Zero when it started but after a while I got annoyed with his emo self. So I changed by preference to Kaname. biggrin

If I had to choose, I would pick Kaname.

When I started reading tha manga, I thought Zero was far more interesting than Kaname, but now I feel the opposite. In my opinion, Zero is a psychological case. He's unable to cope with his past, therefore he is always unsatisfied with his life, and has that I-am-so-sad-and-miserable look on his face.
Kaname is more mature, more mysterious. The classic vampire type, I guess, so that's why I like him better than Zero.

i like Kaname(kawaii biggrin ) the most. Zero is just so annoying...doesn't care abaut Yuuki at all....

XXX YuukiXKaname XXX

eek Zero Cares for Yuuki more than anyone .!

Although Kaname -sama and Zero - Kun are equal with their feelings i think.
they both want yuuki to be happy, loved, and safe .... and vice versa for Yuuki and her feelings ...
But personally I want Yuuki to be with Zero.
He's not "Emo" he's just confuzzled, angry and kinda heartbroken.
Kaname appeals to me, but I think he's been going about his feelings the wrong way, plus, technically they ARE brother and sister so there is some weirdness, although if the love is there .. -shrugs-
But yes,
ZERO!
biggrin biggrin
