I've read very few manhua or manwha, but that's because I prefer to consume media such as comics in their original language, and I know Japanese and not Korean or Chinese. It's as simple as that.

For me, manga is much better than Manhua, though there's no much difference except for the way of reading, I'm still used in reading mangas...

I picked "no preference" since I wasn't even aware of what the other stuff was until picking up on context clues that it's probably comics from other asian countries or specifically Korea.

I'd read one if it appealed to me, but all of the places that I go to find out about manga only cover manga so I'm not really aware of what's going on in the world of the others.

Hmmm... I haven't read a lot of manhwa simply because... *sighs* the majority are really stereotypical and bland stuff that simply just doesn't interest me. That plus the over-drama and melodrama... ugh.

And a good load of it also contains morals and preachy storylines where miraculously, the "villain" will automatically know what is right and ta-da... own up to his crimes and deeds and repent. And oh, same for females who go against society's norms and ideals: they will suddenly "redeem" themselves or if not, be cast as villains. And that's so lame: is this elementary school all over again? Then again, South Korea is heavily Confucius and sometimes, anti-female soo... oh well, that's what you get.

That said, I wish..., Dobeki bride and a few others were pretty good, though. No soppy romances for me, though. And also, no pretense at literary either.

Edit: Oops... that was kinda harsh!

But seriously, I find that a lot of manhwa are entertaining to read for a while yet 'cos they try too hard to be serious, it kinda hurts their credibility and ability at storytelling.

I don't read manhua or manwha. In fact, I will specifically avoid them.
I've tried reading them before and I did not like it at all. I think the drawings generally look pointy and ugly. I can't understand Korean or Chinese anyway, much less even know how to pronounce the names of the characters and I have no desire to.
But the main thing that bothers me is the culture and the way the people act in them is so rude and bold. It's kind of gross and off-putting. It doesn't seem like there would be that big of a difference between them and manga, but there really is.
I'm more used to the Japanese culture since I pretty much grew up learning about it and studying the language and watching anime and reading manga and stuff so I quite prefer it. I don't understand Korean and Chinese people.

Not trying to offend anybody, of course. Just my humble opinion that I felt like expressing via rant.

they are all comics sooo.. probably its the same.. but i have to say sometimes the backgrounds in mawhas are better than those of manga.. well for shoujo.. i dont read shounen.. = ^_^ =
i havent read a manhua.. to judge..
right now i mostly read mangas.. because they are more available i guess..

That said, I know I've read more manga than anything else, but if it's a story that interests me, I don't really care if it's a manwha or manga.

Somehow all manhwa [that I tried] has this flavor in art that I'd enjoy only in a special case.

Mmm i usually read more Manga than the Korean counterpart. No strong preference anyway and im getting the feeling that Manwha is reaching (or even surpassed) Manga in the comic department *really, some of them make me crack with their faces/jokes*

I read mostly manga. But I dont mind picking up a manwha..
Manwha art is yummy, so I really dont mind it.

The only thing is that, when you've read an insane amount of manga, which goes from right to left.
Then suddenly start to read a Manwha that goes from left to right, it tends to get tricky for me

I voted for 'prefer manga', but in fact I read manga only, just a few volumes of some manwha and manhua. I love Japan, and only Japan (totally uninterested in Korea & China) -> so I prefer stories about JP. And more important, I haven't seen any good manwha/manhua. Maybe because I haven't tried to look hard enough, but from what I see, their best are just average compared to manga (Goong for example, I don't remember the others' names that I've read)

Of course I've read more manga out of the three, manhwa as the second most, and manhua as the minority. Different is good, though.

I don't have a preference, they're both good.

I prefer manga, but there are also times when I'm partial to manwha/manhua. I'm so used to Japanese that when I read manwha, I blank out for like a few seconds after reading a translation.
