I diden't notice mangaupdates was in their "death note" sad . I'm unsure if they can get to mangaupdates thought, since mangaupdates mainly provide updates and links to the scanlator sites.

It's not like they've eradicated all the manga but it's a matter of convenience. It's so much easier with online galleries imo. Also having a good site with lots of material (like mangafox). It's gonna take more clicking with several sites and occasional drop-bys at scanlator sites.

Where does someone like me go now who wants to read mature graphic mangas?
I loved mangafox. I also like mangafox because its forum is really active. I am reading a seinen series called wolf guy and the forums tell you straight away the sites for new raws. After this news, less people will go to mangafox, including myself and the quality of the forums will decrease.

Very Sad.

Hmmm... so what if the titles get removed?

There're always MangaTraders, Subwire and a ton more of other online reading/manga download sites. confused

Yes and no to the indifference. Mainly no, though - while I wouldn't even consider reading online (a two-page size-fit format in CDisplay is much more convinient) the fact that some old loons/prudes/weak men and women run around and "bookburn" anything that doesn't fit their values and morals is highly disturbing.

But you see... there have always been attempts at censorship, whether it be on the net or in past history. And there will always be further attempts at stiffing creativity, ideas and suppressing thoughts and so on.

Of course, it doesn't mean that people can't strike back by taking appropriate measures but to me, censorship is just part of what humans, governments, organizations and groups and individuals are capable of. I'm not going to say that it's natural or not, good or bad and so on... just that it's something that will continue to happen in the future for various intents and purposes. (I've my own thoughts about censorship but I won't air them here, for the sake of not starting off some heated discussion.)

And as long as people recover and regroup and keep an eye on the "current issues", I don't see the point for needless panic. It's not like the internet has ceased to exist, hasn't it?

MangaUpdates is an information site, it's not like they're really putting it out there. Search it and you'll find it, but they're not saying anything like "Hey! Read this!" or something. It's still the audience's choice whether they want to read/watch the alleged stuff or not.

Going off topic here...
Dance in the Vampire Bund is licensed by Seven Seas. I haven't bought any of the manga yet but did they even do any censorship? I mean, yeah they cancelled Kodomo no Jikan but everyone knows why they did that. Dance in the Vampire Bund is lolicon, but it's not like you see Mina seducing Akira into bed or sexually teasing him.

Ahh online reading was always so convinent for me, especially with my computer's pathetic memory.
Oh well. Looks like I might have to end up downloading and deleting more often.

There are ways around this. Yes it's long. Yes it's troublesome, and Yes, the idea is stupid, but as long as we continue to get the manga somehow, who cares?

I do have the advertisers article about the censoring, it mentions some titles but mostly websites.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Plous Mina is not really a loli, her real form is of a mature woman's but she hides it so that the elder vampires cant find out the fact that she is ready to be a mother and if something happens between Akira and Mina, Mina is more likely to use her mature form

Man this is just plain stupid.....Why would they want to censor the manga...If they are serious about this why won't they ban the lolita book...It's where the lolita complex got it's name...Heck even the book is listed in the TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005...If u want to stop child porn just censor the lolicon hentai....Other manga like dance in the vampire bund shouldn't be censor cuz it's not about little girls go fuck around...It has deep and interesting storyline...Why won't the censor cardcaptor sakura or lyrical nanoha...I mean char from these manga/anime is the favourite of the pedo and otaku in japan....Someone even married to one of the char in these anime....

no one will ever censor the book, since its a so called "classic".

all the smart, educated people have to read that book and nod in appreciation to the writer who managed to get inside the head of a sick pedophile who kidnaps a kid from camp, and travels around all over the place while raping her, because its a book. that was written a long time ago and was considered a "modern viewpoint".

new media such as comics, cartoons, gaming and the like still have a way to go before being considered classics in the wide world forum. postmodernism is still too young of a theory.

That story was so dry. I tried reading it but as soon as the girl starts growing up it got stale. I can understand that it is good.... but not that good.

Obscenity in America is judged based on literary, artistic, political, or scientific value with a panel of experts and a panel of normal people and a three-prong test and it's all very ridiculous. Lolita describes sex involving a child, so it has material that could be considered obscene, but it has literary merit, so it isn't obscene.

Almost everything that is charged with obscenity now is crazy porn. Yeah, there are those laws that vaguely say that something that looks like a child counts as a child and to sexualize it is a crime, but the only time that kind of law has been used in this country so far was against a man who mail-ordered lolicon bestiality porn manga.

It's really unlikely that Dance the Vampire Bund could ever be considered illegal obscenity. There is no sex in it. It's already licensed and distributed all over the country. This is just another "moral crusader" who won't be able to actually do anything.

It really sucks that Mangafox has taken off absolutely everything categorized as "mature", though. A lot of those series can't be found anywhere else because the scanlator sites are down. I'm going to have to go trawl torrent sites for my reading...

I really hate to think that the online manga community is going to be wiped out not because it's illegal by copyright laws (which it is), but BECAUSE OF THE PEDOPHILES.

This thing with E-Hentai really pisses me off mad
I'm not going to deny it.

I didn't know mangafox also took off their loli/shota...
Opposite of what most of you have said, I can understand THAT.
But taking loli/shota off a HENTAI site? where almost half of it's content is loli/shota?
Just to please advertisers?

I don't even want to visit their site anymore, out of spite.

Why the hell does this keep happening?!

Would not be surprised it if turns into danbooru...
