Nothing of interest to me. You just can't beat having a physical copy of the book in your hands.

Well, I wouldn't mind just putting scanlated stuff on an iPad or something like that, but buying manga e-books? No. Then I'd buy the paperback books instead, because that is so much nicer to have. smile

Quote from ShadowSakura
there are e-books like that? even if i like the pics either big or in paper format. e-book would be to small

Well, on a Kindle or something like that I could imagine that the resolution might be poor, but on for example an iPad I think it'd work. We have one at home, and the quality of the screen is amazing.

In general, I like e-books, for a few reasons: The manga selection is very limited where I live, so when I buy manga, I order from Japan, which takes a long time to get to my house, so I like the idea of e-books, which I can receive instantly. Also, there are some manga which I think are good enough that I would pay something for, but not good enough that I want to have a physical copy in my house, so e-books are a good solution for me in that regard. I think the selection of e-books is also fairly good; besides the popular mainstream stuff, many manga that haven't been scanlated are available, and also some old and hard-to-find ones (in Japanese only, though, so it's difficult for me, but if I use a dictionary I can usually read them). Judging from sample pages (I haven't actually bought any yet), the resolution is usually pretty high (I've only seen the ones available for personal computers, though, since I don't have a Kindle or any kind of e-reader thing. How is the quality on those?). The prices are usually comprable or a little less than what you'd pay for a printed copy, usually ranging from 250 to 550 yen, based on what I've seen (places like ebookjapan and yahoo comic japan). I also saw a place that rents e-books (renta-papy), which is usually 100 yen per volume for a 48-hour rental. What I really like is that the websites that sell e-books will let you read anywhere from 5 to 50 sample pages of almost any manga on their site. Anyway, even though it involves spending actual money over the internet (scary!), I think I'll probably buy some e-books in the future.

I'd imagine most people are looking for e-books in English though, what do you think of the selection for those? How about prices, etc.?

What's the point? If a manga is good enough to be bought, then I actually want the physical manga, not some on-screen thing I could get for free (I have a very poor opinion of e-books, if you couldn't tell smile )

never read any manga ebooks, but do have a few ebooks on my rooted nook color. I would not mind trying. It's nice when traveling for a long period and wanting a lot of reading material without the extra weight and fees.

Like a few people have said, I don't like e-books in general, so I'm not gonna like manga e-books. As long as there are still physical books around, I will keep buying them.

I'm interested, but only so long as it's cheaper than buying a physical copy of the book in question. If it runs about the same price as it would ordering the book from an online retailer, I'd rather have the physical copy.

That and the gratification of having BOUGHT the item in question and having it instantly is nice.

One of the things that puts me off buying really long series that I love (eg. One Piece), apart from the online postage costing more than the actual book, is how much space they take up. That and the fact that the size and print quality of the average manga volume is not much better than a Kindle screen anyway, especially if you're spoilt by scanlations that are 3 times the size with the occasional bonus of a less retarded translation. So if they were available I'd buy them.

Plus unlike american/ british comic books, who get much better artists in for the covers to fool people, manga covers often seem to have the worst art in the entire book, so seeing them lined up on a shelf in all their ineptly-coloured glory is just annoying.

It could work in series where the art is embarrassingly bad at the start (eg Berserk) but you still want to buy the start of the story/support the author.

The only problem with this is the only mangas/comics I've seen in ebook format seem to be stuff people wouldn't want their parents/ the police finding on their bookshelves. Which is fair enough biggrin and probably just means the authors are smart. And technology is improving at a scary rate no matter how much trouble the world is supposedly in. In 5 years, when every kid has weekly chapters delivered wirelessly from the mangaka's brain to their eyeballs, it'll be a different story.. laugh

I've never tried them before, but it already seems like a 'no-go' based on other people's comments. I'm not really interested in them anyway...
