Its content that was originally going to be exclusive to the Collector's Edition so I dont see what the fuss is about.

People are always gonna be concerned when they're not buying the full product. The content being made on available as DLC is being deemed as essential to the plot. If it were some other things like vanity items or what not, I don't think there would be such a commotion over it.

Now you are forced to make a choice whether which content you want included with your purchase and which content you want as a DLC (I'm being general here since this is not only happening with Mass Effect 3).

Seriously, people need to stop complaining about the day one dlc, all this whining is coming from people who are so cheap they don't want to spend $10 on a game that they are supposedly fans of and say that bioware is selling an incomplete game, when the complainers themselves have never touched the game at all.

The problem is that they are deliberetly cutting off a important piece of story then they are telling us to buy it from day one. So what im buying isnt a full product. So far collectors edition have included stuff like online maps, or different clothes, a extra mission etc. And so far DLC have been stuff like that too. Usually not so important to the story but still something extra for the fans...
Imo this isnt right.

(fyi the sum of money doesnt matter to me, be it a dollar or ten)

I'll just be pure evil and pirate the 'complete' game since pirates are really good at getting you the complete experience

i know u were joking but pirating isnt the answer. its cause of pirates that the whole online pass shit started mad
oh on the topic of origin i hate that shit too, seems so poinless

Actually the online pass stuff is due to re-sale of video games. Developers/publishers don't get any money when you sell your used games. So they make the online pass thingy to have a finger in the resell pie (made Gamestop pretty angry). EA is the probably the only company that continues to keep poking its finger into this pie. At first, EA think that it can cripple a game by removing certain piece of the game and give them for free to people who bought the full game while used game buyers will have to pay a bit extra to the company. Somewhere down the line, it thinks it's perfectly fine to charge extra for that 'free' piece anyway because its games are in high demand.

In the evil world of business this is nothing new. Companies have been known to intentionally cripple their products so they can put a premium on the exact same thing without the crippling effect. Sometimes you find a printer with an extra device designed to slow it down so the one without that device can operate at a higher speed. People generally agree to pay a premium for a higher quality product but feel cheated when they realized that they have bought a product that was intentionally crippled. I think there is an article on Ars Technica on this subject but I can't seem to find it. What EA did is the same but people quickly notice that EA intentionally cripple their product to put a premium on their HQ product (namely, the collector's edition).

On the other hand, DRM is the respond of developers/publishers to piracy. Or rather it's a respond to the pressure of stakeholders on piracy. Every developers know that DRM has little effect on piracy but it's hard to convince investors to put money into your game development when you are telling them that 80% of the people playing the game will not pay for it. So developers put in DRM in their products and sometimes have to rely on DRM to earn the 'trust' of the investors.

This whole anti-ME3 crap is just stupid...

If you get the collector's edition, the extra team member is included, as it should considering these people are paying $20 more than the regular edition people so obviously they deserve more for their dedication.

The extra member isn't as "important" and story-breaking like everyone keeps assuming it is, it'll at best be another "Sebastian"(DA2) where yes, he'll show up in story sequences if you have him, but otherwise not important.
This is also for ME3, the third game in the installment of personalized storylines, where people can and will have different squad members surviving since game 1 and different choices that affect their games differently. One more or less optional character (like Zaheed/Kasumi) that adds little to no effect to the main story isn't a big deal, at all, even if it's a paid extra.

I don't care about these idiots masquerading as "fans" when they whine about crap like this, the real fans already preordered the collector's edition so screw the people who think that video gaming is a right, it's not, it's a freakin luxury. mad

If you don't pay, don't expect to be treated any better, it's the same with everything else in this world, even in manga too, you don't pay for the manga, don't expect the mangaka to keep doing it for long. Hell, even "free to play" games aren't free, they're even worse offenders of "cutting content" and making people pay for the "complete" game and yet people are fine with that, because what, it's free for like the first few seconds? sigh, the internet is full of trolls and idiots... roll eyes

oops my bad ur right bigrazz
well piracy might have played a tiny part but ur right the main reason for the online passes was cause of used games, idk how i forgot about that. online passes suck but its not the first time gamers see something like this, its now a pretty common thing for pc games to have a serial key

I agree 100% with greydrak. was gonna write the same thing but u beat me to it lol

The DLC is not vital to the story of ME3. It was made after the core game was completed.

Obviously, to the people complaining, it matters not when it was made, but what it contains. They deem it to be important.

I don't think that's the point, the point being is that when a game is released it should be feature complete. They shouldn't add a dlc on launch date, what does that look like to you? It looks like they planned on making content when the game isn't released yet to the consumer for quick profit. Everything the developers make before released date that doesn't involve power should belong to the consumer. It's just as bad as what Capcom did with its Resident Evil 5 multiplayer "add on" content when it was really a dlc to unlock multiplayer. Pretty much what I'm saying is they made dlc to be released on launch date when they could of easily add it on the disk for everyone to access which is why people are boycotting it.

Its not about being a fan its about being a consumer and using the only leverage we have on the corporations, our money. And for the unimportance of the squad mate, hes a Prothean. It may not be central to the plot of ME3 but it is important for the series as a whole.

the Mass Effect Boycott is a good idea in gernal, the gamin industry is going down since wat ? 3-5 years. How often did u buy a game for 50 Bucks which was still in beta phase? Hell i played many games they felt like they are still in Alpha (Divinity 2 anyone?). True Fans appreciate the work and the story of the game. So i am a true fan and i pay 50 bucks and play like over 100 hours on skyrim for example, while in Mass Effect it will be less (cuz it isnt an open world), but i really loved the storyline. Its a Bioware game so of course the story is good but a new essential character who u have 2 pay for, thats harsh. Bioware is one of the best companies out there when it came to gaming and givin their costumers full games. No heavy Bugs, playable games with a good storyline. Rememver the old games? Anyone? BG2 NWN Icewind Dale. Yes i know companies want to make more and more profit, but u get less and less to play for it. The whole Gamin Industrie goes down, check out MW parts they make remakes of their own games, u have to pay for new maps (Counterstrike anyone? with how many costum maps?) I think putting some pressure like BOYCOTTING games with good reasons is the right thing to do, if we wont do that, they will just keep on makin less and less of a product or cripple it even more. If u compare the old games with the new games u will see only, and i mean ONLY, improvement in graphic, but the companies want u to consume more of their product while producing even less, and if u let them do it who knows where we will end.

Pfft, you all are behaving as if Bioware and EA are just like Activision.. I mean seriously what you all are complaining about is nothing compared to what Activision has been doing for years and is still doing to this day lol
