Deep love was so sad. You could try I think Snow millennium or something? Its something like that. Less about the disease. If you like a story about disease and love, I recommend you try watching a quick video. It is a music video by vocaloid ( Kagamine rin and len). It is called Prisoner and the follow up video is Paper Planes. Its really sad and touching. You might like it. Search it up on youtube.

i second Full Moon wo Sagashite, it was super cute and made me cry. Though it might be more geared for a young teen audience, in case that matters to you.
