What is the best way to translate a dialect or accent of the original language that is not the norm (e.g., Kansai-ben)?
Different country's English accent (e.g., Irish or Australian)
Different American regional accent (e.g., Southern)
Have the character use different slang (e.g., 'pops' instead of 'dad')
Minor speech pattern differences (e.g., dropping the 'g' in '-ing' words)

You may have read it already, but would Fullmetal Alchemist perhaps fit? It's more with the supporting characters with the whole soldier business.

I will also second Shoukoku no Altair.

Relatively realistic (there's some ninja-ish things but still nothing fantasy-like). It's all about warfare from fortified positions in the ancient asia. Quite interesting.
