I don't think those twins were meant to be anything like a reincarnation of Lucy or Nyuu. Maybe as a visual metaphor, but not literally. I thought otherwise at first, but after re-reading the last few pages a few times i'm pretty sure its not literal.

Kanade is who the two twins are calling, who clearly look identical to Yuka so its safe to assume its Yuka and Kouta's daughter.

I like the manga ending over the anime. It closed up everything. Considering how depressing everything else was, it didn't bum me out and was actually kinda positive

The saddest part to me was the time skips of Kouta at the stone for all those years. I imagine him sitting there thinking, "what If I had just came or hadn't said that one little lie." I doubt he'll ever get over that and everything else that comes from it.

But the letter seemed like it bought closure to everything and his reaction made it seem like he could put everything behind him. Thats what made it positive imo.

When are they going to release this in the US? I'd like to own them in English.

I have little hope for an English release of the manga, it's target audience is to small to make it profitable for translation is my guess. Despite being an excellent series, it has a very high squick factor. It takes the Manga consumer base and further narrows it to people that can stomach the squick. But then Berserk is over here and i here that's pretty over the top too, so maybe there is hope after all.

the ending could have left off more clues... and a better line to that.... besides i started to hate lucy up until she decapitated her own brother... thats kind of twisted and messed up... dont like seeing that....

I would've liked it better if it had ended in chapter 106.
That was amazing.
Just my two cents. ^^

Omg! I just finished this Manga. This was one of my longest running ones I guess. Been reading this for almost 2 years. bigrazz

I was soo excited that I read through the last chapter very fast.
The last panel if I hadn't read and seen the drawings completely again I would have come to the conclusion that the twins killed him biggrin

Anyway was a really good read.

This forum hasn't seen much use lately so I don't know if anyone will even read this but I might as well post.

I think that the ending you prefer might have alot to do with which you finished first. I read the manga straight through in a night last year (I really wouldn't have wanted to read this chapter by chapter, sounds like the emotional equivalent of pulling a band-aide off really slowly) and just recently I finally got around to watching the anime, so this being one of my favorite manga I naturally read it again the next night. Anyways I was unsatisfied with the ending in the anime, largely the scene of "Lucy's "death"?, though I did enjoy many of the scenes with Lucy and Nana, and the music box was a nice touch. It was also nice to see a softer side of Lucy.

Quote from reid1
Uhm, I didn't have understood that right the first time I read it, but now I see your point and you basically are saying the same of me.
Basically you mean that the two personality have been reincarnated in two different beings, one as Kaede/Nyu and the other one as Lucy. But so you're thinking as me that Kaede was the name she had before when she lived in the orphanage, right?
I only don't think that Nyu is living on on Yuka-Kouta's daughter, Nyu is just a fictional name they made up for Kaede/Lucy.
Did you also notice that one's smiling but the other one not? This could give more credit to this interpretation.

Quote from reid1
So Kaede simply represent in my mind the name of the kind personality of Nyu before she had been overtaken by Lucy. So to me the twins are Kaede and Lucy's reincarnations (a good and a bad one, in fact one's smiling and the other one is not smiling).

First of all I the naming scheme I choose for the Nyu personalities are

Kaede = the original one that was in the orphanage and played with Kouta as kids
Lucy = the one that tells Kaede to kill
Nyu = the kind one with amnesia

Now based on my personal naming scheme (for the rest of the comment I will be using my scheme as standard) and the use of a good and a bad one it would seem you are saying Lucy and Kaede/Nyu are the two twins, though I assume that you would mean Kaede and Nyu are the twins. I take issue with combining Kaede/Nyu as Kaede said that Nyu was a personality subconsciously made as her if she had been born without horns, and is thus a different personality than the one who played with Kouta as a kid, and I disagree with your use of a good and a bad one as the Kaede said that she wished she could be born again as a good girl (and I am a big softy who easily emphasizes with characters, even if they are crazy psycho killers).

Now for the reason that I even bothered creating the first post in almost two years. You pointed out that one was smiling and the other isn't but I find it worth pointing out that this mirrors the facial expressions of Kaede and Nyu when they appeared before/protected Kouta when Lucy took control of the body in the last couple of chapters..

@Mr. sickVisionz

I don't know how you can take it as anything but literal, the daughter notices them first, and if you look closely you can tell she is the one calling out to Kaede (there is one arrow pointing at the daughter who is earlier identified as being named Nyu by the way, it would be really weird if her name was Kaede as Kouta had yet to learn Nyu's real name so that would be quite the coincidence, while the other side has three arrows coming off) and has earlier said she has been playing with some twins. I think that the Mangaka put the daughter their for two reasons, one she is clearly Yuka's daughter and two she servers to identify the girls as more than a delusion.

I definitely agree in wanting an english version, this is one of the few manga I would really care about having in a tangible form.

Honestly, I liked the anime's ending better. I thought it was more fitting, even if it left a lot unresolved.

I feel the same, which actually very very rare for me. I usually don't go for them because it isn't the original story, but man, the anime moved me. The ending was just so perfect. I would say the manga as better for middle though.

i agreed with you there.

I really liked the anime ending. Although, I still don't understand what happened to Lucy/Nyuu at the end of the anime. Was that girl standing at the entrance Lucy/Nyuu? And if so, why didn't she go home with Kouta the night Mariko exploded, after all, Kouta did tell Lucy/Nyuu his feelings for her and he did forgive her for killing his sister and father, rightt? So, why didn't they go home together? I am utterly confused about the ending and am extremely curious to know what happened to Lucy/Nyuu...

I don't think there is a Kouta's sister reincarnation (Kanae, not Kaede!), and I can't see why she should be incarnated as a twin of her murderer. Also they died in two different times.

There is no Kanade. There is Kaede.

Kaede is the name written at the end of the message left in the bottle. It's been left there by Lucy/Nyu when she was a child (chapter 35, page 143), so my supposition is that Kaede was her name when she lived with other children in the orphanage, because nobody at that part of the story ever called her with her name.

So Kaede simply represent in my mind the name of the kind personality of Nyu before she had been overtaken by Lucy. So to me the twins are Kaede and Lucy's reincarnations (a good and a bad one, in fact one's smiling and the other one is not smiling).

yes yes, you're right. One is before she turned into lucy and the other was Lucy (I feel the one that was smiling was Lucy).

didn't like the ending. the anime's ending made me cry and feel all like: ohhh such a good ending.
this ending doesn't suck! it's just that...I watched the anime's ending and the feeling was better S:
but...reading this ending was like: meh~ everyone lives.

I honestly hate Eflen Lied. I think it could redeem itself in the endy but they didnt. When Kouta and Lucy were talking on top of the building she conveniently changes back to Nyuu when Kouta scolds her instead of taking responsibility for her actions. It would be so much better to hear Lucy honest feelings at the end instead of hiding herself until she was about to be attacked by an enemy when shes was gonna leave the tower.

Then they call it a happy ending when the supposid descendants of Lucy were shown at the end. But when they get past a certain age they will just turn into mass murderers.

The series lacked depth and tried to use Evoultion as the reason the the new race of horned humans. But they dont even explain how the Evolution began and the origin of Lucy. The story is just filled with perverse devices that dont even the acknowlege themselves. ex. The incest of Kota and his cousin, the pedophilia of Mayu and Bando, the diaper girl Nozomi, and the sexual curosity Nyu. It would be fine if the manga acknowledged itself of being partly perverted. But it overlooks everything as if its a light-hearted manga when its a dark horror manga.

I'm not about to disparage your stance, but the bolded bit up there is a non-issue in Japan. Actually, from a historical standpoint, marriage between cousins has been the preferred approach in most societies. It's been weaned out a lot by some of the obvious genetic problems it can present, but due to certain Japanese movements (I won't get into it because it's a rather complex sociological topic) it was never really made all that taboo in Japanese society.

The rest of your point is fine, but given that this is manga and that sex was never the focus of the storyline, that just isn't the angle I would take to complain. It is what it is, either way.

I've always wondered about the overreaction to all things incest...especially when it's biologically "clean", and legally "clean".

I mean, in Canada incest is only two degrees of blood separation (meaning only two lines distance on a family tree), and in the US it's three. (Hey, I've taken basic law courses...don't judge me)

Granted...Japan is one of few countries without incest laws, but given strict social guidelines, it's probably less likely than ones with harsh legal penalties.

Whatever the case, marriage between cousins is legal in the vast majority of the civilized world (especially if they're further than first cousins).

There are worst endings out there. Really. Also I don't know when you started reading manga, but you should get used to seeing these 'perverse devices" sooner or later.
