Hm, yeah but i must say we're talking about japan here and not comparing the two countries. I'm not saying Canada is less dangerous, but it would be better if i stay in one dangerous country other than moving or visiting another dangerous one like japan :] In general, i can say i don't like any countries... or i don't know >_>

Can't say I like it cause I've never been there but its one of the few places that I really want to go, plus I like Japan's exports: manga and games

Quote from Tachikoma According to some people here there IS a differance in the threads however deleting the other would just prove to reinforce my argument so I'll leave it to the OP to decide whatever he thinks is right. haha I wonder why I feel like such an ass today You do realize that you are the OP to both the threads? So since you seem not to mind locking either. I'll lock one of the two. Actually with the way the threads are getting hijacked, I might lock both...

Quote from Tachikoma The similarity in my previous poll is exactly the point i'm trying to prove "Are you a Japanophile?". I think it's kind of funny because in this poll people seem to like Japanese stuff more than in the latter. Being a japanophile simply means you have to like something from japan so if anyone (all) people in this forum are reading manga they would automaticaly be regarded to as japanophiles. Now the funny part is that the word Japanophile has a negative ring to it just because of the -phile which is probably why most people act negative when being called one, even though it's true. So are most people living in denial or just like being hypocrites? silly people yes, i see the connection between the two which makes the threads seem similar, but if liking something from japan automatically made you a japanophile, then i'd have to be a -phile of almost every country. i like indian, american, mexican, spanish, korean, chinese, philippino, french, italian, german and lots of other cuisines. so does that make me a -phile of their countries even though all i know about most of them is what i've learned in the textbooks?
generally, japanophile means this: Japanophile: a non-Japanese person with a strong interest in Japan or Japanese culture.
lately, people have been butchering down the term to this: "Recently, the word Japanophile has taken on an additional meaning, that of an enthusiast for things Japanese. As such, Japanophilia is becoming more common around the world, with the popularization of many Japanese cultural exports and Japanese pop culture, such as Japanese food, J-Horror, J-Pop, J-Rock, anime, manga, and video games. In this sense, the word Japanophile is often a pejorative term, used to denote a person who is supposedly socially inept and spends too much time fantasizing about certain aspects of Japanese culture." and seeing as this applies to japan, it should apply to every other country as well, shouldnt it? but then that would make no sense because adding -phile to the country of origin of the thing you like just because you like something from that country is extremely general.
Quote from reanimated838uk If I changed the question "Who here likes Japan?!" into "Who here loves Japan?!" would you honestly think that the result would actualy dramaticaly change from a ten times higher answer for *yes*?
- yes. i was thinking the same thing... i wouldve changed my answer, anyway.

Sure, I like Japan, but I'm not a japanophile. I don't spend my time obsessing with all the new otaku content that is rapidly being released, or eat ramen and pocky for breakfast lunch and dinner. Japan certainty has a very unique culture that can attract all sorts of people to it, but I would be no more willing to go to Japan, as any other country.

I like the traditions and stuff, but I've never been to Japan, so I can't really tell. A friend of mine is a Japan-fanatic though.

Never been there, and it doesn't interest me all that much. I wouldn't mind visiting one day, but there are other countries I'd rather visit first.

I like their women, anime/manga, games, food, and music. The culture, I'm sure, is interesting, but I'm not too keen on trying to immerse myself in it. Or trying to learn the language.

Used to live/work there on and off..... I liked it (mostly).
Whether I'd like to live there permanently, I'm not so sure....
