Okay, just wanna say something, I was very irritated at the guy who called me a retard, how some people said how this was not plagiarism, and some other things, and I would like to say sorry for what I would say. Now, I do know that this is more mild than some other cases of plagiarism, but it's still plagiarism. I have read a book that's story, characters, and some writing, were all taken from many different movies and books, some famous (Star Wars and Harry Potter) and some unknown.

Now, it's a brand new day (for me), so I would like us to stop arguing and let's all be happy now, and don't dis my choice of words. I do know that people have seen my link, I have read every post, and every word in them. But what one person said, made me irritated again, and I may have.... overreacted. I know that these are all just excuses, and again, I am sorry, but life's been hectic as of late, and little things make me frustrated.

Now, let us start the talk of the anime part again, and only say stuff for plagiarism if it is horrible or great news. Like I said before, this would be an amazing series, if you subtract the plagiarism. But it's there and I can't help but have no respect for the mangaka and manga.

(Sorry for the excuses, and many apologies)

You know from the links given, it does look like a lot have been taken from other manga. The question is do we care ? I for one don't care as long as it doesn't interfere with my enjoyment of the series. In this case, if BlackAriel98 hasn't shown the difference I would probably have never been able to tell.

Frankly, i find obvious plagiarism examples like
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Buster Keel
a lot more annoying than this.

Well, I just wanna point out that if you like this series even with knowing about the plagiarism, than that is fine. As long as you know that it has been taken (I would be really happy if you don't buy any Witch Hunter stuff, personal opinion, don't get mad), I am perfectly fine with that.

Tell you the truth, when I read Witch Hunter, wanna know what instantly popped into my mind? D. Grayman. Now, that is just me though, it will be different for other people. The whole idea of the organization hunting down things/people who wanna kill/destroy the world, that was a little suspicious, but not enough for me to really question it. But when I read more and more of the manhwa, I noticed other things. That was when I Googled it. It never is a smart thing to copy big titles, even if you are in a different country. And again, personal opinion here, purely my thoughts, others will think differently.

I just went against what I said back about no more talk of plagiarism. Oh well.... and can some people talk about the idea of an anime, I would prefer not to turn this into a different topic completely.

This part about them being similar in type of story / setting is in reality somewhat pointless. Almost everything book or otherwise has been taken the bases of it's story from something else the author has read or seen. I my self can't name anything i've seen or read that i can't compare the basic storyline to something else especially when you break it down as simply as you did. D Grayman's setting the way you broke it down (and even the setting normally) i can think multiple thing the fit the bill (the things in the link were far more major examples).

That is not Plagiarism!

its just someone using something as reference material!....

Example of what plagiarism is:

There was more to it than just that simple explanation, I just never fully explained it. And yes everything can be related to something. Everyone reads/watches something and they think of things from that. That is what inspires them, and I know this since I too write stories and I am inspired by things, but I make sure that there is a line in similarities so that I don't accidentally plagiarize something. If there is too many similarities, I won't be satisfied and keep editing till there is hardly any. Please do not misunderstand what I'm saying. I try very hard not to plagiarize. And sometimes there really is story stolen from from other things, like when they are exactly like other works, like City of Bones by Casandra Clare for instance. That series' story was taken from a variety of different stories, and they all compiled into one big, great series. It was considered to be great till you find out how much of it was taken, then it just leaves you in a very dark place, feeling empty inside.... so much of it too......

Sorry about that, I got very depressed at the thought of that series. Now, please ask if you do not understand some of this, cause I am too tired to read through this.

Well a few of the DOGS panels are kinda convincing and the D. Gray Man one is really bad, as is Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Still, as others have pointed out it's not plagiarism until entire concepts and ideas are borrowed w/o permission or acknowledgement. It's pretty standard in comics, video games, and movies to refer other work. It isn't until you get entire pages, shot-for-shot, lifted from other manga like Kayono did.

I'd chalk most of this up to rookie mistakes, this is his first and only series. It can't be that bad, since the rabid fans haven't got it cancelled it yet. Double Arts was cancelled for only having a similar plotline to D. Gray Man I think.

Anyways back to the OP. As awesome as some Manhwa, they'll most likely never see an anime. Even though there are a lot of animation studios in Korea (a lot of US animation is outsourced there). There's only been a few that have only seen movies, but that's it.

When it comes to art (as in drawing/painting/video/photographs), the law is more lenient when it comes to "proving" plagiarism.

Theres a BIG difference between generic action poses (which is why the Toei isn't suing the entire anime industry for action team poses) and dual-page battle scenes where the same poses, same positions and same damages are mimicked. (The Star Wars comparison is pretty damning.)

Now what does this have to do with the anime? The moment they start work on a Witch Hunter anime, that would basically be an announcement to the world saying "hey, we have a multimillion dollar budget now! Come SUE US!"

Quite sure everyone can say its a sleazy move by the author to directly just draw from other sources, poses and such may be on a gray area but reenacting certain scenes to such a similarity is not cool, same with backgrounds taking such things exactly like it was and sketch it with a bit of his flavor is sleazy and just up front lazy, similar by a bit is on a gray area but doing it almost like the original is not and just disrespectful to both the author and the readers. Its same with Nick Simmons son, just that he did it more obviously easy to tell since he just took from one source and made almost exact characters with just a few changes, this guy does from many sources similar settings, backgrounds and environment.
Before i knew my face was like this biggrin when i read the info i was like this confused when i had the facts i was like mad and then dead
Point is no matter how big of a fan or lazy you are you just dont disrespect people like that its unethical.
And wow this topic has strayed off topic, but im with the people saying that it probably wont happen.

Call me stupid or w/e you like but as far as i know the story is unique.. There might be similiar background and poses but that doesnt now mean the author is copying some else work. Just because 1% of his manhwa was not done by him does not mean he is plagiarisming anybody. He did the other 99% by himself and i respect him a lot for that. This manga is really good and i have been following it for 2 years already and i think i will keep reading it until it is done. laugh

Ugh, I dunno what to write to have really original post. I may be called plagiarist soon. Sad day.

Still its bad when offtopic is more interesting than topic itself. As for me I don't really care.Sooner or later author will learn his own, more unique style and be more original. His story is interesting and sense of humour is generally funny.

After seeing this post I followed the links to the examples. While there is something to be said about the FMA, star wars and D.Grayman cases (they are very similar), the Bleach one felt a little stretched to me. They were just generic sequences, way too broad to make a claim on. Same for the Beserk one. DOGS might have a little bit better of a case but again very generic poses and sequences that most artists use in the same situation. the one about the sword that is similar to LOTR. That is not a sword design unique to LOTR, it is a generic fancy sword of viking/late antiquity early middle ages design.

Either way I am still going to read it and if an anime is made, I will still watch it.

Your entitled to your opinions as i am to mine so im not going to call you stupid embarrassed
Heres mine, you gotta admit its a bit lazy to copy backgrounds no?
Some mangaka have even been put out of work for plagiarizing backgrounds (more severe then this one though) so its not really a good idea to do that, risking your career because u liked a background so much youd make a identical scenery with a fresh look is not worth it.
And the one above me, what was your input on the LOTR castle or whatever it was, dont really remember the name but that was kinda identical.
