As a long time ex-user of weed, I guarantee it IS addictive. Not in the same sense as hardcore drugs like coke or heroin, though. You do get some withdrawal symptoms like a runny-nose and such (minor stuff) but it's more the feeling and state-of-mind that one gets addicted to. There's this lull and sense-of-ease you feel, I suppose. It does help with certain pains and bodily-aches, in my experience, but hardly on the level of prescribed painkillers or morphine.

With regards to the whole issue of legalizing marijuana, I personally think that it's not the right way to go. I'm more in favour of some form of decriminalization.

If you completely legalize, it will (eventually) pave the way for weed to be sold commercially (much like tobacco), empowering lawmakers to introduce taxation and whatnot. When that happens to a product that has long been "under the counter", it distorts the market. Legal prices will almost always be significantly inflated compared to the old illegal prices. So now, instead of catching dealers and growers, authorities will be busy catching smugglers and VAT-evaders.

If you decriminalize in such a way that it's still illegal to sell or buy, but completely legal to grow for personal consumption (say 3 or 4 plants max per household), it frees up the authorities to catch bigger fish of harder drugs. For sure, people will still trade, but it'll be safe to ignore unless extremely large amounts are exchanged. Plus you won't get unscrupulous tobacco companies trying to commercialize it and add further additives like they do with cigarettes.

Of course, this only applies to weed, I guess.

btw i saw in earlier posts that i was apparently "selfish" for my drug use so id like to ask why. its not really anything new to add chemicals to the body for reasons of bringing forth emotions and relaxation. it has probably been done since the beginning of time(indians i.e. used them for ceremonies and even to reach a discovery about themselves through visions). i dont see how its any more selfish to spend time smoking with your friends then it is to spend money on other entertainment such as games/movies/theme parks... its just that.. a source of entertainment. contrary to what appears to be popular belief we didnt roam the streets pillaging and raping. we stayed around laughing way too hard for the amount of comedy that had just happened, have the same "interesting" convos every once in awhile. maybe went so far as make some retarded sporting event that ends in a few bruises. then we wandered off to bed, crashed, and got our crap together for the next day of school/work... so what exactly did i miss thats so terrible... was it the part that i used thc to help relax instead of ethanol/nicotine/caffeine... i dont see how the fact that the government made certain chemicals legal and certain ones illegal for the sake of profit has anything to do with my being selfish/horrible. people on this site need to learn to think for themselves and not just believe everything bigbrother says.

Huumm... so some people are oblivious instead of selfish...

A test for you to exercise your mind:

I sell drugs. I get money with drugs. I spend money on weapons and thugs so I can get more money with drugs. I corrupt politicians and police officers with my money. I kill people with my weapons and thugs.

Who gave me money?

I'm not just saying whatever comes to my mind, i really do have a technical degree on chemistry and can tell you this (proven facts) :

Marijuana IS used as therapy for cancer
Marijuana is NOT addictive, since it doesn't have any compound that could make you develop a necessity for it.

I could go on, but i really don't feel like it...

Belive me, i have both the theoretical and practical knowledge to say that the Tetrahydrocannabinol have no harmful effect on the body , and that's not something i can tell about the Nicotine

Yes, yes. You know, I too once aspired to obtain a technical degree on chemistry so that I might claim myself to be an expert on the side effects of drug use, especially in relatively anonymous and unverifiable venues like manga forums. Unfortunately for the world at large, I quickly realized that receiving a technical degree would require several years of study and thousands of dollars in tuition that would ultimately fail to pay for my future, so I instead took a far more lucrative route and became a local drug dealer. Now, the upkeep for the hydroponics and UV light set me back a pretty penny, but within a month I had more than broken even. Of course, like every other drug dealer in the world, I had a problem maintaining a regular client base. Marijuana, as you appear to be well-aware, is a decidedly non-addictive substance, so I was forced to secretly coat the product with crack cocaine in order to ensure continued customer loyalty. Once everyone realized that my products gave a vastly superior buzz, my small home business quickly grew into a massive underground drug empire, which unfortunately attracted the attention of the police. I was incarcerated for a total of forty-two years, but luckily the in-prison education system was able to provide me with a vastly superior technical degree in chemistry on the taxpayer's dollar, so I suppose everything worked out in the end.

@Crenshinibon

I just can't read the hole text, ever... i don't know why...

but really, in my country you can get access to technical and further degrees on free institutions, also i'm only 20 and i'm already studding to get another title, i lost nothing...

Not to mention that you can get about 7 to 9k a month in a work with just the technical degree...

Also, when i said "therapy" i didn't lie, it's true that it only helps dismish the pain but that it's called theraphy too. It also contains some compounds that are good for your eyes (remember that Simpsons episode? laugh laugh ), in that case it's not just to make you feel less pain. biggrin

That's okay, I don't actually write these things for people possessed of your cerebral ability.

The whole "not reading" thing seems to be a bit of a running problem amongst chemists. Why, there was this one chemist I knew who attempted to install a small motor on an inflatable raft for his children to ride on. While assembling the vehicle, he quickly grew bored with the directions, and decided that the small knowledge of chemical bonding afforded by his degree would enable him to finish building the device without reading any sort of blueprint. I can only assume that this streak of brilliant insight came about with the aid of marijuana, for as a chemist, he must have known that it produces no negative physical effects.

Unfortunately, the device self-destructed when initially put into use, severely injuring his children in the process. I am told they would have survived, but as he assumed that his chemistry degree afforded sufficient medical knowledge to take care of the problem on his own, he attempted to reattach ther severed limbs by alchemically infusing their bodies with the equivalent quantities of elements in their base forms. They subsequently died of various poisonings. Tragic, really. He spent months smoking non-damaging marijuana to get over the loss.

The problem is that you are kind of boring, nothing else. There are a lot of people that talk shit about me here, but none of them bore me like you do, that's all.... (seriously "of your cerebral ability"?, come on, that what's my little cousin says to his brother)

I read it like this (no kidding)

Also, my English is seriously lacking, it's hard to express anything that i think, and it's hard to understand some of the things here too.

What i found odd is that even tough all the things i said are proven facts that i have talked over with people that have much MUCH more knowledge than me they get refuted with odd arguments that seem to lack a proper foundation.
It might be because of the language barrier.

Yes, the language barrier does make sarcasm rather difficult to comprehend, doesn't it? Perhaps I'd be more interesting if you were stoned. It does, as you say, have no negative physical effects, and certainly would make this entire discussion far more enlightening for all parties involved.

My profession, after all, doesn't give me the qualifications to refute your statement in the slightest.

Thing is, BlackOrion, you are oblivious to the kids' suffering.

On a more serious note, you're making snap judgements without reading or even trying to understand what you're commenting on.
Don't get - don't reply.
You sure aren't helping any pot-heads with such flimsy arguments.

On topic:
I don't think any perception altering drug should be legalized.
I mean, look at them kids!

You people are exaggerating, really. That's all that i feel.

7/10 of the people in U.S.A at 60 ~ 80 tried Marijuana and that didn't ruin the whole nation. And what about the kids? Over here you see kids sucking on "Glue", it's not illegal, it's easy to get, and it kill them before they turn 10, if not that, "Fuel", totally legal, it send the to an even earlier grave...

I have seen terrible things, it was not caused because of Marijuana, i can tell you that much (with or with out the language barrier) I already said that I'm against drugs that cause a physical addiction (That includes nicotine, and it's legal) but i just don't see how Marijuana is a problem, not to mention that the Famous "Stoned" state it's pretty damn fake, it's REALLY hard to be in that state you see on the T.V. or in the Movies. It's easier to poison your self with alcohol (and that's legal too).

It's just about the way we see things.

EDIT: I don't know if this even exist on other countrys but over here we have a thing called "PACO", all the kids from the worst parts of this country.. try that shit out every day destroying they brain in less than a month. The way they die because of it is even worst, when in a "trip" they "drown" with their own saliva.

And i swear to god that is really easy to get. I just don't see how Marijuana is a problem since it won't harm you at all, i know Doctors that smoked as teens and that didn't stop them from becoming someone...

EDIT2: Ok, i though it over and maybe your were talking about the "Drug lords" wars and that kind of shit. Having a Marijuana plant your self is easy, getting the seed too, there is hardly such a thing as "Selling" Marijuana (over here at least)

EDIT3: Maybe it was about Marijuana taking you to other drugs, that hardly happens, the kids i talked about didn't have the time to, they start at 8 (i'm not making this up) with the "Glue" (and just to make it clear it's normal Glue) and probably land on the PACO not much later...

I know I like to ignore logic and use the same, many times showed wrong, arguments all the time, because someone slightly smarter than me told me them, and I, as an user, don't really care about consequences, you know, I just want to smoke my weed and pretend I give a fuck. There is no need to be so hard on me.

In fact, there is no need to answer me at all, I'm just a repeating machine.

Edit: And a chemist

I'm sorry man.

biggrin

It's just that it kind of hurt me to think that people get to focused on things with little to none effect on the body while there is so much that really does hurt you for life and is so easy to get. no

But as long as you understand no harm is done.

EDIT: This a kind of shocking picture but:

This is what's called a "bag of glue" over here, quite a terrible sight.

Bolded for past tense.
To reiterate, those doctors stopped smoking weed to get to where they are.

And seriously, stop saying that you're a chemist. No one really gives a crap.
